In this paper, statistical and regression analysis of kerf width using design of experiments is proposed for WEDM operations. Experimentation was planned as per Taguchi's L'32 (21 X 44) mixed orthogonal array. Each experiment has been performed under different cutting conditions of gap voltage, pulse ON time, pulse OFF time, wire feed and dielectric flushing pressure. Stainless steel grade 304L was selected as a work material to conduct the experiments. From experimental results, the kerf width was determined for each machining performance criteria. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used to find out the variables affecting the kerf width. Assumptions of ANOVA were discussed and carefully examined using analysis of residuals. Variation of the kerf width with machining parameters was mathematically modeled by using the regression analysis method. Finally, the developed model was validated with a new set of experimental data and appeared to be satisfactory.Keywords

Objectives: In this paper, the effect of reinforcement content, load and speed on the wear behaviour of Cu/SiC metal matrix composite are investigated using design of experiment. Methods: A statistical model is proposed to find the significant factor which affects the wear resistance properties of the prepared composite material. Three samples of composites were fabricated using different SiC content by stir casting. The wear behaviour of composites was evaluated for a variety of load and sliding speed at ambient temperature. Findings: It is found with the increase in SiC content the rate of wear of the composite decrease while with increase in load the wear rate increased. Also with increase of sliding speed wear rate is increased. Among the three variable parameters chosen for the study viz. reinforcement content, load and sliding speed, the load is the mainly prominent factor that affects the wear resistance of the composite. Applications/Improvements: This study can be enhanced further by using different reinforcement’s combinations and parameters. Also the wear tests can be performed at elevated temperatures.Keywords

Objective: In this Paper, the effect of reinforcement content, load and time was analysed on the true stress and true strain during compression testing of (Copper/Silicon Carbide) Cu/SiC composite using design of experiment. Methods:Statistical analysis is performed to identify the significant factor which affects the mechanical behaviour of the composite.Three types of composite samples were made-up using different SiC content by stir casting process. The true stress and true strain of composites were evaluated for a defined variety of load and time. Findings: With the increase of SiC content, load, and time the true stress of a composite improved. With the increase of SiC content, true strain decreased while with increase of load and time, true strain increased. Vickers hardness test is also performed on developed samples. It is found that percentage increase in the reinforcement content of MMC increases the hardness of the composite. Applications/Improvements: More analysis and evaluation on copper composite can be performed by varying various parameters like increasing reinforcement percentage and tests can be conducted at elevated temperatures.Keywords
