Abstract

Background/Objectives: Gear measurement is an important as well as critical step and it is done in bench centers by using instruments which have a gear with mandrel. However, this method is found to be time consuming. In addition it is very difficult to execute this process without additional man power. Methods/Statistical Analysis: In the existing method of measurement using bench centers includes a surface table which contains head, dead center. In this proposed measuring machine we introduced a digital dial indicator arrangement to measure whole depth of the gears. Findings: It reduces the measuring time as well as man power required. In this proposed research work, an attempt has been made to reduce the time taken in measuring the whole depth, face out and run out in gears from 10 minutes to 7 minutes that is 30% reduction. Application/Improvements: Thus proposed method would be well matches for modern gear manufacturing industries to obtain micron level measurement in terms of time as well as man power consumption.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: The prime objective of this work is modifying of water pump which is used for cooling the engine in automotives. Methods/Statistical Analysis: In the existing pump ball, bearing is used in which the assembly and maintenance is difficult. In order to overcome these problems integral bearing is proposed. So it is planned to modify the existing pump to accommodate integral bearing with the purpose of reduce the assembly time and increase production. Findings:  The proposed integral shaft bearing has compact in size which is developed by eminence material and have one or two rows contains with balls as well as one row of roller. It has high reliability through a newly developed water resistant seal. This reliable bearing is three time better durability when comparing with existing ball bearing. It has high load durability, high resistant to heat load and water. Application/Improvements: The bearing with integral shaft has no inner rings, while having the raceway groove directly on the shaft.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: The major pollutant that comes out from engine exhaust of Diesel Power Plant (DPP) is Nitrogen Oxide (NO_x)as well as Sulphur oxides (SO_x). Since NOx concentration level is higher it affects our environment to great extent. Our main objective of our project is to reduce NO_x concentration level to lower rate of parts per million (ppm). Methods/Statistical Analysis: The NO_x concentration level is higher in DPP as they didn’t install any NO_x control methods. We suggested using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) method for controlling NO_x emission. Ammonia (NH₃) is making use of reagent in SCR technique and it is inject to the exhaust stream. Findings: NH₃ reacts with NO_x present in the exhaust and it is converted into Nitrogen (N₂) and water (H₂O). It is proposed that, if SCR system is installed in Diesel Power Plant, NOx concentration level is expected to reduce from 1100 ppm to 132 ppm. Application/Improvements: If The proposed system is implemented successfully in the power plant, then NOx concentration level could be reduced to approximately 132ppm (<2 g / kWh).

Abstract

Background/Objectives: The objective of our research work is to increase the productivity of the billet sawing machine. Methods/Statistical Analysis: In this research work we suggest some modification to the existing machine by redesigning the some parts of the auto loader, main and shuttle vice. The rod resting area and feeder area of the auto loader has been modified by raising the height of the rod resting area and also designed the feeder to hold two rods vertically. And also the dimensions of the main vice and the shuttle vice have been redesigned to hold the two rods vertically. Findings:  The proposed billet sawing machine thus enables to cut two rods at the same time in order to reduce the cutting time and also could be improved 50 to 75 % (approx.) of the productivity in modern manufacturing environment than the existing machine.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Cooling system of the engine is one of main essential systems for automobiles, which maintains the engine temperature to the sustain conditions. Hence the main objective of this project work is to propose a simple piping design with less number of connecting hoses and also to reduce coolant leakage. It is also proposed to change the piping material from aluminium alloy to mild steel which reduces the overall cost of the engine cooling system. Findings: The proposed design addresses the coolant leakage problem and reduces the number of parts used in coolant pipe connections hence leading to cost reduction and simplified design. Application/Improvements: The proposed design would benefit with coolant leakage elimination by reduction in hose defects, reduced head loss, cost reduction and improved life of piping system in automobiles heavy vehicles.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Engine produces high amount of heat while running. This can raise the engine temperature to very high level and can damage or seize the engine components. Hence for the safety of engine components, it needs to run at much lower temperature, which is called engine working temperature. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Radiator plays a vital role in engine cooling system. When increasing the cooling efficiency of radiator causes increase the life time of engine. The efficiency of the radiator can be increased by changing the surface area or dimension of the tube or increasing the number of fins/tubes. The heat transfer rate for the existing radiator could be analyzed. Findings: After analyzing the existing radiator, the new radiator has been designed. Two flat plates are placing inside the tube which acts as the nozzle. Hence, nozzle velocity increases and pressure decreases. Pressure is directly proportional to temperature. Application/ Improvements: Thus, the temperature of coolant inside the radiator decreases. As a result efficiency of the proposed radiator is increased 5.37% when comparing with existing method.

Abstract

Objectives: Multiple Input Multiple Output dc-dc boost converters is used to interface diversified renewable energy sources to Asymmetric Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter whose output voltages can be connected to the grid system. The compensators and/or controllers are required to provide the constant output voltages of the boost converter against disturbances along with desired time domain specifications. In this paper, two input two output dc-dc boost converter is developed to interface with seven level multilevel inverter. Methods/Statistical Analysis: One of the input sources is replaced by Photovoltaic panel and Incremental Conductance based Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithm is developed to improve the efficiency of the system. Compensators are designed to maintain the constant output voltages of the converter against disturbances using transfer function model obtained from developed small signal model of the converter. The developed system is simulated using MATLAB /Simulink and the total harmonic distortion in the output voltage of the inverter is observed .The simulated closed loop output voltages of the dc-dc converter are validated by developing prototype model of the converter using AT 89C51 microcontroller. Findings: It is found that the two input two output dc-dc converter provides constant dc voltages to the asymmetric multilevel inverter from the diversified energy sources with improved time domain specifications using compensators. Application/Improvements: The designed system is having the applications in renewable power system, aerospace power systems and hybrid energy vehicle.
