DMSO is frequently used as carrier solvent in toxicological experiments due to its exceptionally low toxicity and environmental impact and also to achieve more effective dispersion of the toxicants. Aquatic toxicity studies of DMSO on the respiratory rates and the biochemical constituents of muscle and liver in catla revealed minimal lethality and negligible effect on the physiology of the test organism. This study helps in the choice of percentage of the carrier solvent that can be used in the preparation of toxicants for any toxicological studies involving fish.Keywords
