Abstract

Background/Objectives: This study was conducted to provide the basic data for improving the lifestyle and the quality of life related to health of ischemic heart disease patients with the type-D personality. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This study examined the relationship between the lifestyle and the quality of life related to health of ischemic heart disease patients with the type-D personality and analyzed the differences of type-D personality. The study has used the data of 182 patients with coronary artery disease from the first data analysis. For the data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, Χ2 test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used. Findings: It was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the lifestyle between the type-D personality patients and non-type D personality patients (t = -6.56, p < .001). In addition, there was also a difference in quality of life related to health between the type-D personality patients and non-Type D personality patients (t = -5.82, p < .001). Although the lifestyle and the quality of life related to health was not significantly correlated in the type-D personality patients, it was proven that the lifestyle of non-type D personality patients was significantly correlated with their quality of life related to health. It demonstrated that the better lifestyle led to a better quality of life related to health. To develop a nursing intervention program that can improve the lifestyle and the quality of life related to health of patients with ischemic heart disease, it is necessary to examine whether ischemic heart disease patients have the type-D personality or not and to apply a customized nursing intervention to the patients accordingly. Applications/Improvements: It turned out that type-D personality patients had lower level of lifestyle and quality of life than the non-type D personality patients. When applying a nursing intervention, these findings should be considered.
