Abstract

Objectives: The welding techniques are being developed at a very fast pace with novel and efficient techniques coming up for unconventional cases such as dissimilar metal joints between plates of various types, which have various practical applications, like in nuclear power plants. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A few strategies and procedures have been proposed furthermore have been connected for measuring residual stress (σR) in a few metals. Some of such strategies are: stress relaxation procedures, X-Ray Diffraction methods, Techniques utilizing stress touchy properties and Cracking systems. In addition, endeavors have additionally been made to use ultrasonic and hardness strategies to decide remaining burdens in metals by measuring stress sensitivity properties. Finding: Failure investigations of many dissimilar joints and literature review have revealed that several failures of the dissimilar welded joints have taken place in the Heat Affected Zone [HAZ]. One of the major reasons for failure of dissimilar welded joints is the untreated left residual stresses. In the present paper a brief description of the ideology of bimetallic weld processes, their capabilities and restrictions, phenomenon and types of σR and their treatment techniques is presented. The overall impact of σR and their measurement techniques have also been discussed. Application/Improvements: There are numerous applications of dissimilar metal joints such as in automotive industry, power generation industry etc.

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging is most widely used radiographic technique in diagnosis, clinical research and studies as well as treatment planning of major diseases. Generally GLCM and PCA technique are used for the feature extraction and classification but this technique increased the complexity and it’s robust in nature. In this paper we used the Gabor filter with wavelet transformation classification technique for analyzing Magnetic response images. In this paper, the detection of abnormality in the patient’s image is automatically recognized using texture analysis. The hybrid technique may work as an automatic classification of abnormalities in lungs MRI images, which can help radiologist in performing an in-depth examination. The texture analyses of both the normal and abnormal images are done. On the bases of the values of abnormal images, the range is calculated and further it is compared with the texture features of normal image. So, to determine the whether the abnormality is there or not in the image, its texture features are observed and the feature lying outside the range finally concludes that image is normal. Five cases are observed, on the bases of their comparison, the result is obtained at the end indicating the whether the presence of abnormality in the image.

Abstract

The overall performance of microchannel heat sink (MCHS) as a system is affected by the inlet and outlet manifold arrangements in addition to array of microcannel. In the present study the CFD analysis is performed w.r.t the heat transfer coefficient, and Nusselt number for three different manifold arrangements. In the present work three different arrangements: Rectangular (R), Rectangle with Semi-Circular (RSC) and Divergent Convergent (DC) of the inlet and outlet manifolds are selected. The result shows MCHS within the Reynolds number ranging from 342-857, the DC type manifold has highest heat transfer coefficient (9%-10%) in comparison to RCS and R type manifold being the lowest.

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of present work is to find out the thermal performance of solid and perforated heat sink with various perforated designs (Rectangular, Circular and Slotted). Methods/Statistical Analysis: The CFD analysis was performed to investigate the thermal performance of different perforation design. The test has been conducted in a horizontal rectangular duct equipped with forced draft fan. The data was obtained by varying flow velocities of air from 2, 5 and 8m/sec and maintaining constant heat input 100 Watt taken over a period of time. Findings: In this computational analysis we calculate the Heat transfer coefficient, Reynolds number and Nusselt number and obtain the result. The results show the heat transfer coefficient is more in circular perforated fin as well as more Nusselt number as compared to slotted and rectangular Perforation. Application/Improvements: Electrical component, higher-power lasers, refrigerator, air condition, Computers etc.

Abstract

Objectives: Prognosis of a tool is essential for assigning a proper Condition-based Maintenance program for it. Therefore the objective of the present study is to investigate the reliability of a tool using a stochastic Markov Model. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This work proposes a stochastic Markov model for estimating the Remaining Useful Life of the turning tool. In this study, a Mild Steel workpiece was machined to a certain length on a lathe machine using a high-speed steel tool and the Flank Wear Width (FWW) were recorded in every 20 minutes interval. This experiment was conducted for stable feed, stable speed and uniform depth of cut until the failure value of the tool flank wear was achieved, i.e. 0.3 mm. Findings: A state based model is developed considering four different degraded stages of the tool. The degradation rates among the states are obtained from the recorded experimental data. The appropriate equations for the four-state Markov model were derived, which show the possibilities of physical changes in the context of time for each level. The set of equations is solved analytically in MATLAB software using Range-Kutta method. After solving these equations, it was concluded that this system is 43% reliable for a 300-minute period and 41% is reliable for 500 minutes time period. Application/Improvements: It helps in preventing any kind of production loss. The remaining lifespan of a tool can be predicted by carefully analyzing the data gathered from the trend exploration method such as health monitoring with time.
