Abstract

Subacromial space is anatomically bounded to the acromion and the humeral head in consists of the superficial glenoid fossa. By narrowing the subacromial space, this is likely to occur such as rotator cuff injury and shoulder impingement syndrome. Therefore, the aim of this study was by comparison analysis to distance according to subacromial space the abduction angle of the shoulder joint to using ultrasonography. Thirty healthy adult males were recruited and agreed to participate as the subject in this study. This study was single group repeated measurements design and measured subacromial space according to angle of the shoulder abduction setting to 0°, 30°, 60° and 90° using ultrasonography. All measurements was used one-way repeated ANOVA to analysis difference between the variables. The result of study, there were significant differences among shoulder abduction 0°(11.30 mm), 30°(9.40 mm), 60°(8.01 mm) and 90°(7.10 mm). In conclusion, current study confirmed that subacromial space had an effect on the angle of shoulder abduction. Clinically it is considered that ultrasonography measurement of subacromial space helps to the differential diagnosis of rotator cuff injury and shoulder impingement syndrome.

Abstract

Objectives This study aims to investigate the effect of pennation angle and surface Electromyography (sEMG) activity of medial gastrocnemius on different heights of high heels by using ultrasonography and sEMG. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Twenty eight healthy young females participate in this study. In order to measure the pennation angle and sEMG activity of medial gastrocnemius, we instructed subjects to stand barefoot and wearing two high heels (5 cm and 10 cm). We measured ultrasonography and sEMG activities for three times on three conditions (barefoot, 5 cm, 10 cm) repeatedly and used the mean of measurement values. One-way repeated ANOVA was used to see the difference of individual intervention and Bonferroni’s correction for post-hoc was used to that. Findings: Pennation angle and sEMG activities in medial gastrocnemius showed significant differences on three conditions (barefoot, 5 cm, 10 cm). Improvements/Applications: Furthermore, measurement of muscle activity using ultrasonography is considered useful way because pennation angle and sEMG activity in medial gastrocnemius increased in accordance with the increasing height of heels identically.

Abstract

Objectives: This study is to find out the effect on the neck and shoulder muscle activation changes when applying the elastic and non-elastic tape in forward head posture. Methods/Statistical Analysis: After preliminary research, 30 adult males and females were recruited and agreed to participate as the subject in this study. All subjects were measured their muscle activation with forward head posture, attaching the elastic tape, non-elastic tape and not attaching the tape by using Electromyography (EMG) equipment. The muscle activation of upper trapezius and splenius capitis is analyzed by using a one-way repeated ANOVA. Findings: As a result of the measurement value comparisons, applying non-elastic tape statically decrease muscle activation than elastic tape in the forward head posture (p<.05). Improvements/Applications: The result shows that non-elastic tape is more useful for forward head posture to support.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to vibration and auditory stimuli affected the sense of ankle, knee, and hip joint position. Methods/Statistical Analysis: 40 healthy male and female adults who did not undergo an operation for diseases relevant to ankle, knee and hip joints were recruited for this test. By dividing experiment group into auditory stimulus group, vibration stimulus group, auditory, vibration stimulus group, sense of position for ankle, knee and hip joints was measured and for control group, sense of position for ankle, knee and hip joints was measured without any intervention. In order to give excitation arousal to auditory stimulus group and vibration stimulus group, cheerful music was played to them and to give vibration stimulus to vibration stimulus group and auditory, vibration stimulus group, vibration stimulus was given to them. Test subjects were directed to remember target angle through exercise of 5 times including ankle joint 20o, knee joint 30o and hip joint 95o and then stop exercise when they thought to arrive at the first remembered angle after taking a rest. As measurement tool, isokinetic muscular strength test equipment was used. Findings: In auditory stimulus group, significant difference was represented in ankle joint and in vibration stimulus group (p<.05), such difference was represented in ankle, knee and hip joints (p<.05). However, its mean value did not show any significant difference (p>.05). Improvements/Applications: As a result, this research has proved that vibration stimulates the ankle, knee, hip joint position sense and auditory stimulation of the senses is the effect on the position of the ankle stimulation.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Core stability means muscular control on the back regions. Lumbar multifidus is important for stabilization in back region. To demonstrate how multifidus activation would be changed in the various positions. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Thirty healthy males were recruited for the study. The researchers educated the participants how to make the right positions, which consists of the prone, the side lying, and the sitting position. The researchers measured the subjects' lumbar multifidus two times randomly using the ultrasonography. The transducer that is rectangular and has flat surface used 7-10MHz with a 50mm penetration depth. The raw data was analyzed using one-way repeated measures ANOVA to compare the positions. Findings: In the prone position, the lumbar multifidus' thickness was 22.7cm, whereas in the sidelying and sitting position, the lumbar multifidus thickness was 19.4cm and 20.0cm. It means that the Lumbar multifidus more activated in the prone position than other positions. Among those positions, if lumbar multifidus exercise is needed for patients who do not have any kind of lumbar pain, the prone position would be the best position for lumbar multifidus exercise to the patients. There were only few studies about comparing multifidus activation in various positions, but even in previous studies, no studies examined that how the lumbar multifidus worked in those three positions. Thus, the study proved that in which positions the lumbar multifidus activates more. Application/Improvements: Many patients need to core muscles exercise for their low back pain. In that case, doing lumbar multifidus exercise in the prone position would be the best position.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of squat exercise on the space between the knees and a distance of global postural system of deformity. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Twenty-two volunteers took part in this study and we divided into two groups(experimental group 10, control group 12). Experimental group performed toe in squat exercise and control group performed general squat exercise. All volunteers received a total of 18 exercise session over a 6-week period (three times per week). Repeated ANOVA was used to examine the effects of the intervention on each outcome measure. Findings: The space between the knees and a distance of GPS wasgreatly reduced in the experimental group. Therefore, we have confirmed through experiments reducing a space between the knees toe-in squat, whereby we would also be helpful to ensure the treatment of genu-varum. Application/Improvements: Furthermore, based on the results of this study, the supplementation and addition of diverse exercises to correct genu-varum are considered necessary.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Equilibrium is the ability to maintain the Center Of Gravity (COG) in their Base Of Support (BOS) and the human body to maintain balance. The purpose of this study is to healthy adults when wearing medial/lateral wedge, ankle posture was to evaluate the effect of the dynamic balance. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This study elected a healthy adult male 14, female 26 people that have no physical balance due to musculoskeletal and neurologic abnormalities, ankle instability. Tetrax interactive balance system was maintained for 30 seconds on each surface (plane surface, lateral wedge, medial wedge) on the one leg standing position. Tetrax interactive balance system results through the General Stability Index (GST), Weight Distribution Index (WDI), weight distribution was collected. Data was analyzed the within surface in comparison paired t-test and the between surface in comparison one-way ANalysis Of VAriance (ANOVA). Findings: In the comparison between each floor, there were significant differences in weight distribution index (p<.05), in visual conditions change between the stability index was a significant difference (p<.05). Weight distribution difference of left and right were significant differences between the medial wedge and flat from the eyes open (p<.05), The eyes-closed state was a significant difference in medial wedge, flat and medial wedge, lateral wedge(p<.05). Therefore, closing one's eye is considered during dynamic balance training to get the effect of improving result.
