Abstract
A great wealth of data in the forestry sector in India is lying unorganised with various agencies like State Forest Departments, Forest Research Institute, Forest Survey of India etc. Taking advantage of the cost effective and user friendly electronIc computers that are available today, a computerised data storage and information retrieval system to organise the forest resources data of the counrty at the state and national levels is suggested. Such Indian forest resources information system will be of immense use in aiding the planners, forest managers and researchers, with timely information for decision making, management, monitoring and reserarch in the field of forestry.
