Abstract
Dimensional variation in fibre and vessel characters along both vertical and horizontal axis of 28 years old Daniellia oliveri (Rolfe) Hutch and Dalz. was carried out. Mean values of fibre lengths 903.71 μm, fibre diameter 21.23 μm, lumen diameter 11.08 μm, fibre wall thickness 5.53 μm, Runkel ratio 0.99, flexibility coefficient 0.51, relative fibre length 42.43, vessel length 560.80 μm, vessel diameter 528.55 μm, and F/V length ration 1.60. Fibre lengths varied significantly on both axis investigated, while fibre diameter and lumen diameter varied significantly only along the vertical axis. Other traits analysed showed considerable variation but were not statistically significant. From the results, the wood of D. oliveri is good for pulp and paper production.
