Abstract

Incidents of wild animals straying into human habitations have increased during the last decade and this poses a challenge to managers in mitigating conflict. One such incident is described in this paper, where a wild male elephant from Rajaji National Park strayed into Haridwar town. Of the various methods commonly employed for managing such situations, chemical restraint proved to be an effective technique for restraining the animal and relocating it into its natural habitat. The paper presents a detailed account of this successful procedure and relocation of the wild elephant in its natural habitat.

The Rann of Kutch is the only breeding ground for Flamingoes in the South Asian region. The author visited this area in the year 1991 at the time of breeding of Flamingoes. Their nests, eggs, food habit, chicks and breeding attempt have been described in detail.
