This study examined the relationship between collectivism and suicidal ideation among elderly living in a community. Questionnaires from 315 elderly people aged 60 years and older of age were used for analysis. Average collectivism was 3.56 points and average suicidal ideation was 1.83 points among the elderly. Females had a higher level of collectivism than males. Among the elderly who had higher suicidal ideation were atheists, residents in rural areas, those reporting a ‘normal’ or ‘insufficient’ income and a ‘normal’ or ‘bad’ health status. Results also showed that suicidal ideation decreased among the elderly as collectivism increased. Keywords

Childbirth can serve as a turning point in life requiring appropriate support, and also a new opportunity of development for the family as well as the couple experiencing childbirth. In this research, required are intervention methods enabling holistic nursing care based on comprehensive understanding of women in their 30s on their first childbirth experience and the meaning of it. To accomplish this, the research used qualitative research method as a holistic approach of human being to provide bases for effective nursing intervention by identifying the meaning of first-childbirth experience, and revealing the semantic structure. According to the criterion, the research selected women who understood the research purposes and accepted the participation, out of women who gave a first childbirth in their 30s. The number of research participants is reached when no further content comes out in interviewing, namely, repetitive statements on a phenomenon. The data were collected from January 2013 to October 2014 by using an unstructured, open-ended questionnaire, and administering face-to-face interview with participants. Women going through their first pregnancy in their 30s had anxiety and pressure during pregnant period due to late pregnancy, living a life with carefulness for their behavior and eating habit throughout their pregnancy. Further, they were very sensitive to change in the fetus during prenatal tests in hospital, and took health food such as nutrient supplements on account of late pregnancy. Nonetheless, they were unsatisfied with their changed body resulting from pregnancy, and got pressure on economic, supportive, and social relationship related to child-rearing after childbirth. Therefore, in-depth understanding of pregnancy and childbirth experience through delivery process will contribute to extensive nursing knowledge system, and analyzed and identified pregnancy and childbirth experience of women in their 30s will be a proper foundation of nursing intervention. Keywords

This study was attempted to analyze the effect of clinical nurses’ fatigue and job burnout on the patient safety management activities, in order to provide empirical evidence for the improvement of nurses’ job their patient safety management activities. This study was carried out to 215 clinical nurses who worked at two general hospitals with more than 500 beds and two university hospitals. Study data have been collected from Feb. 2 to Mar. 31, 2015, and 205 responses were used for the statistical analysis. As a result of analysis, the fatigue of nurses had a positive correlation with the job burnout (p < 0.001), but had a negative correlation with the patient safety management activities (p < 0.001). In addition, the job burnout had a negative correlation with the patient safety management activities (p < 0.001). Therefore, both the hospital and nursing organizations should establish the program that manages the fatigue and job burnout of nurses in order to improve the patient safety, and the nurses themselves should also try to manage the fatigue and stress in order to create a safe hospital environment and culture. Keywords

Objectives: It is an epistemological and qualitative study on the experience of nursing students in the observation of anatomy, where the participants described their experience. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The results of the study were analyzed after collecting data on nursing students’ experience in practice classes for the human anatomy. By applying analytical methods of Colaizzi, a total of 89 significant statements were concluded from the protocols, and 34 formulated meanings were extracted. Based on this, the association with the source data was verified to determine 13 themes. Among these themes, cluster of themes were formed by grouping four of them together. Findings: In the midst of the preparatory waiting step of the human anatomy lab practice, the participants recognized it as a major new opportunity associated with the vague concern and stress and geared themselves for the preparation of it. Applications/Improvements: This study are expected to provide better understanding of the physical and mental responses by nursing students in practice courses on anatomy. Keywords

Background/Objectives: The nurses have the role conflicts by the attitude, role execution and others perceptions regardless of their own perception. Methods/Statistical Analysis: This study does not intervene the researcher's own perspective. It uses Q-methodology that allows for both quantitative and qualitative analysis of subjective characters that are perceived by subjects to identify the subjective meaning of nursing. In doing so, the study expects to promote better understanding of the concept of nursing and provide a basic set of data to conduct quality nursing. Findings: The result led to four category types. Each Q-type formed a category with people who shared a similar awareness or perception and idea of euthanasia. Each category type reflects the subjectivity of the students on the topic of euthanasia, allowing for the description and understanding of the types. Applications/Improvements: This study suggests that more various approaches to nursing education and clinical practice must be offered that are in accordance with the meaning of nursing as perceived by nursing students. Keywords

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the significant factors related to admission motivation and institution selection, in elderly residing in long-term elderly care institutions.
Methods/Statistical Analysis: The study analyzed the data of 381 resident elderly among the data of ‘validation of long-term care institutions (institution salary) evaluation’ by Kim et al. The frequency analysis, t-test, oneway ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were applied using SPSS21.0.
Findings: First, main determinants of institution admission were to review the children, including the son/daughter-in-law and daughter/son-in-law, rather than the individual or spouse, and the institution was determined taking into account the level and accessibility of the services as available for the elderly person requiring those services for care. Second, for institution admission motivation, it was found that the higher the ‘institution preference,’ the higher the institution recommendation intention and institution reselection intention. In other words, institution admission motivation was high in ‘family relations,’ but it was found that the present institution should have the ‘preference for institution’ as noted for the current institution, if it is to be recommended to another elderly person or is to be readmitted.
Improvements/Applications: The most important consideration of the service quality of the caregiver is the core of the operation of long-term elderly care institutions rather than the size, credibility and location of the institution.

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the elderly long-term care insurance system recognition level on effectiveness recognition in Korea. The study focused specifically on the comparison of middle age and old age-related study subjects.
Method/Statistical Analysis: The subjects of this study were middle age people between the ages of 45 and 64 years old, and the old age people were over the age of 65 who were residing in Chungnam, Korea. From July to August 2018, questionnaires were distributed and collected from general residents, and finally, 400 sets of data from 200 middle age and 200 old age data were obtained.
Findings: First, the perception of necessity and necessity of elderly long-term care insurance system was considered positive, and the middle age generation was more positive than the old age generation. In addition, the middle age generation had a high level of recognition that if they needed care, they would utilize care facilities, but would utilize home care services when the spouse also required additional care. Second, elderly care facilities and home service fees were generally recognized and considered as expensive, but such a cost burden did not adversely affect the effectiveness recognition of the elderly long-term care insurance system.
Improvements/Applications: In order to solve the problems in the new elderly care facilities construction process, it is necessary to exchange opinions and converge with each other through constant communication and coordination with the residents, and in addition, business entities should first approach local residents with authenticity regarding their noted care issues and concerns.
