Abstract

Genetic variability, correlation and path co-efficient analysis between yield and its component traits were carried out in 30 genotypes of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) at Faizabad (U.P.).Highly significant differences between genotypes were recorded for all the characters studied. High estimates of PCV along with GCV as well as heritability and genetic advance (GA) were observed for seed yield per plant. High heritability along with moderate genetic advance was recorded for test weight. High heritability along with low genetic advance was recorded for pods per plant, plant height, length of pod and seeds per pod. Moderate heritability accompanied with high genetic advance was recorded for branches per plant. Plant height showed positive and highly significant correlation association with number of branches per plant, test weight and seed yield per plant. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that test weight, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant and plant height had positive and direct effect on seed yield. It was concluded that improvement in the seed yield of fenugreek is possible through selection for test weight, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant.

Abstract

Over the last two decades there has been a tremendous increase in the number of automobiles and a corresponding increase in the fuel price. In this regard, alternative fuels like vegetable oils play a major role. Use of pure vegetable oil in diesel engines causes some problems due to their high viscosity compared with diesel fuel. To solve the problems due to high viscosity various techniques are used. One such technique is fuel blending. This paper investigated the performance parameters of dual vegetable oil blends (mixture of Mustard oil and Palm oil) with diesel on a stationary single cylinder, four stroke direct injection compression ignition engine. The blends of BB 10 (combination of Diesel 90% by volume, Mustard oil 5% by volume and Palm oil 5% by volume) and blends of BB 20 (combination of Diesel 80% by volume, Mustard oil 10% by volume and Palm oil 10% by volume) gave better brake thermal efficiency, lower total fuel consumption and lower brake specific fuel consumption than other blends (BB 30, BB 40 and BB 50).

Abstract

This collection of essays has been in the making for a long time. The tradition of election studies was revived at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies(CSDS), Delhi in the mid-nineties after a gap of almost 25 years. A group of political scientists from different parts of India were invited by the CSDS to collaborate with it in undertaking a series of academic studies of elections. The collaboration began first with a series of assembly elections held during 1993-95. This was followed by the National Election Study (NES) 1996 at the time of the General Election to Lok Sabha. It was after a long time that so many political scientists collaborated in conducting a truly nationwide study.
