Abstract

One third of the Indian population is being contributed by the adolescents (10-19 years). The adolescents are a vulnerable group to many social, physical, cultural and health implications. The government of India has started an integrated health programme named as, Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) Programme, to achieve the better adolescent's health in every aspect. This will be delivered through the peer educators selected from the community. The current cross sectional survey was done in Sonepat district of Haryana among the 144 peer educators selected for the ARSH Programme. The mean age of the study participants was 15.7 years. About one forth (23.6%) of them were students of under secondary classes and one third were 12th passed. All were residing in rural areas. Majority were aware about the harmful effect of habit forming substances (73%).the awareness about the RTI/STI was low (53.4%) and most common source of information school teachers followed by audiovisual sources. Small proportions were aware about unsafe sex, unsafe abortion and teenage pregnancy. Awareness level about the adolescent related issues was low. Need to sensitize the teachers and parents as well and incorporation of adolescent health issues in school health programme.

Abstract

Three quarter of the neonatal deaths happens in the first week only and the initial 24 hours itself take a toll of 25% to 45% of deaths. The Studies conducted in the South East Asia Regions has shown the impact of home visits by skilled workers and it has reduced deaths of newborns by 30 to 61%. Home visits by a skilled health worker immediately after birth is a health strategy that can increase newborn survival rates. The present cross sectional survey was done among the 54 ASHAs of the Kurali Block of district Faridabad of Haryana. All the ASHAs were assessed on the basis of their skills and knowledge about the component of Home Based Post Natal Care (HBPNC). Conclusions and recommendations:All the ASHAs were well versed with the vital issues in postnatal care. There is still gap m the skills required for proper HBPNC. There is need of continuous on the job training for the Home Based Post Natal Care.

Abstract

In the present cross sectional survey, prevalence of anaemia and its association with nutritional status was assessed. It was carried out among 80 Undergraduate and 64 Nursing students living in girls UG and Nursing Hostel of S.R.T.R. Medical College. The data was collected by personal interview by using pre-tested questionnaire. BMI was calculated using weight and height, Hb was estimated by Colorimetric method. Data was analysed by suitable statistical method. The Prevalence of anaemia was found to be 36.8%. Out of 80 UG students, 19(23.75%) were underweight and 22(27.5%) had mild Anaemia of which only 4(5%) were found to be underweight, whereas out of 64 Nursing students 27(42.18%) were underweight and 28(43.75%) had mild Anaemia, of which 17(26.56%) were found to be underweight, and this difference was found to be highly significant.
