The effect of cadmium and lead on glycogen, protein and lipid contents of gill, liver and muscle of Indian major carp, Cirrhinus mrigala have been studied. The fish were exposed to predetermined LC0 (0.98 and 19.352ppm) and LC50 (0.132 and 21.849ppm) concentrations of cadmium chloride and lead acetate, receptively for 96 hours. For chronic exposure 1/10th and 1/20th concentrations of LC50 values have been used for 30 days. Both the heavy metals showed decrease in glycogen, protein and lipid content in all the tissues. The significant alterations showed toxic effects of heavy metals at biochemical levels.- Pyrethroid Induced Respiratory Changes in Labeo rohita

The acute (96 hrs) effects on exposure to sublethal and lethal concentrations of synthetic pyrethroids, fenvalerate 20 EC and cypermethrin 25 EC were studied by a static bioassay method on the fingerlings of a freshwater carp, Labeo rohita. The sublethal concentrations of fenvalerate and cypermethrin were 2.7 ppb and 3 ppb while lethal concentrations were 4.8 ppb and 5 ppb respectively. The rate of oxygen consumption was determined at these concentrations after every 24 hours. It was found that, as compared to the control, there was change in the rate of oxygen consumption. In general, there was increase in the rate of oxygen consumption due to the effect of both the pyrethroids.- A New Species of the Genus Oxyopes Latrielle (Araneae: Oxyopidae) from Sahyadri Ranges of Western Ghats

Thorell established the family Oxyopidae in 1870 consisting of the type genus Oxyopes which was established by Latrielle in 1804. Walckenaer for the first time recorded the genus from Indian sub-continent in 1805. Remarkable works in India on the family Oxyopidae were done by Thorell (1887), Tikader (1965), Gajbe (1999,2000, and 2008), Biswas and Roy (2005). While examining the collections from plateau region of Satara Dist (Maharashtra), we found an Oxyopes species that is new to science. We diagnosed it and describe, illustrate here as sp.nov. in the present study under the name Oxyopes sataricus.- New Record of the Spider Arachnura angura from Maharashtra with Additional Morphological Description (Araneae: Araneidae)
