Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at the Instructional Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during Kharif season, 2012. The experiment was conducted in Vertisol field. The Soil of experimental field's soil exhibited neutral reaction (pH 7.34), EC 0.26 (dSm^-1), medium status of organic C (0.58 %), low in available N (273 kg ha^-1), medium in P (14.78 kg ha^-1), high in K status (616 kg ha^-1) and sufficient level in micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn). The experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design having three fertility levels as main plots and twelve rice genotypes as sub plot. Treatments were replicated thrice. The fertility levels were taken as low fertility level (00:00:00 kg ha^-1N:P:K),medium fertility level (45:30:20 kgha^-1N:P:K) and high fertility level (90:60:40 kg ha^-1N:P:K) and treatments under sub plots as rice genotypes namely IR-83388-B-B-108-3, IR-83388-B-B-129-3, IR-82589-B-B-84-3, IR-83383-B-B- 129-4, R-RF-65, IR-83377-B-B-93-3, R-RF-69, IR-83383-B-B-141-2, IBD-I (Local entry), R-RF-85 (Local entry), IR-64 and MTU-1010. Yield of different rice genotypes significantly increased with increasing level of fertility from low to high. Rice genotypes, R-RF-65, IR-83383-B-141-2, IR-83377-B-B-93-3, IR-83383-B-B-129-4, IR-83388-B-B-129-3, IR-83388-B-B-108-3, R-RF-69, MTU- 1010, IR-64 and IR-82589-B-B-84-3 were recorded higher growth and yield attributes for grain and straw yields.

Abstract

Phosphorus is one of the most limiting nutrients for plant growth in soil in both acidic and alkaline soils. To screen the genotypes for their P use efficiency and response to its application the genotypes need to be grown under different gradients so as to compare their performance under different regimes of P application. Therefore, low P plots were divided into 4 sub-plots with different gradients (0,20,40 and 60 kg P₂O₅/ha, respectively). Results showed that at 0 (absolute control) level of P₂O₅, rice genotypes differed widely among all the phenological and yield attributing characters studied. Root length measured was recorded lowest for Mahsuri cultivar (18cm) whereas highest ischolar_main length at maturity stage was recorded for Vikas and Vasumati cultivars (26cm each). At 20 Kg P₂O₅/ha level, ischolar_main length measured was recorded lowest for Mahsuri cultivar (19cm) whereas highest ischolar_main length at maturity stage was recorded for Akshaydhan cultivar (30cm). At 40 Kg P₂O₅/ha level, ischolar_main length measured was recorded lowest for MTU 1010 cultivar (20cm) whereas highest ischolar_main length at maturity stage was recorded for Vasumati cultivar (30cm). Similarly At 60 Kg P₂O₅/ha level, for plant height the values ranged from a low of 58cm for Rp-bio-226 cultivar to a high of 99cm for Vardhan cultivar. Significant but not steep variations were noticed among cultivars for ischolar_main length, flag leaf length and effective number of tillers characteristics at maturity stage.

Abstract

A study was conducted to assess available nutrient status of soils of Navagarh block in Chhattisgarh by GIS technique. Grid based surface (0-15 cm) drawn from the farmers' fields were analysed for their fertility status and mapped by geographic information system (GIS) technique from 125 villages of Navagarh block.The soil samples were analyzed for pH, EC, OC, N, P, K, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn. The soil pH varied from 4.8 to 8.0 (mean 5.93) and indicated that soils were found to be moderately acidic to slightly alkaline in reaction. The electrical conductivity of soil water suspension ranged from 0.04 to 0.98 dS m^-1 with a mean value of 0.20 dS m^-1 and all soil samples under normal range (-1).The mean value of organic carbon was 0.55 per cent and about 90 per cent soils of this block comes under medium fertility group. The soils were low in available N content. It ranged from 87to 399 kg ha^-1 with an average of 258 kg ha^-1. The status of available phosphorus varied from 1.52 to 29.33 kg ha^-1 with a mean value of 12.88 kg ha^-1. The 96.82 per cent village soil samples from the study area can be classified as low fertility class. Nutrient index values were in low fertility class except 8 villages for N and 44 villages for P comes under medium nutrient index value. The available potassium varied from 88 to 503 kg ha^-1 with a mean value of 279 kg ha^-1.The more than 90 per cent soil samples were classified as medium to high fertility class. The available iron, manganese, copper and zinc content ranged from 0.44 to 91.6 mg kg^-1 (mean 25.47 mg kg^-1), 0.32 to 84.4 mg kg^-1 (mean 29.90 mg kg^-1) and 0.16 to 28.1 mg kg^-1 (mean 2.56 mg kg^-1), 0.02 to 10.84 mg kg^-1 (mean 1.61 mg kg^-1), respectively in soil of Navagarh block. Most of soil samples were found in sufficient levels of Fe, Mn and Cu but 32.21per cent soil samples were deficient in Zn content. Soil nutrient index of overall soils group were found in low fertility class of nitrogen and phosphorus and high fertility class with respect to potassium. Most of the area of Navagarh block was covered by LLM, LLH and LMH categories.

Abstract

Phosphorus (P) deficiency is one of the of the most important nutritional constraints to rice growth across the globe. The desire to improve the P acquisition efficiency of rice arises because of very low use efficiency of fertilizers and also are not always adequate to overcome the crop production constraints. Fertilizers are a costly input, such that their use limits the profitability of rice farming for high-input or low-input systems and the use of fertilizers for these two rice nutrients is inefficient. Rice-growing environments can be categorized into two very broad categories: ‘upland’ and ‘lowland’. For the purposes of this review, we have explored whether there are other ways by which P acquisition by rice can be emphasized. Also, recent interests in foliar nutrition in rice, we must explore some of the other no traditional ways by which external application of P have been utilized. In this brief review paper, we have also tried to review some of the genotypes which are very efficient in low P tolerance.

Abstract

Grid based (GPS) surface (0-15 cm) soil samples by systematic survey were collected from 87 villages in Baloda block where 1003 samples were identified from Inceptisol. These soil samples were analyzed for N, P and K and categorized as low medium and high as per criteria followed in the soil testing laboratory. Based upon the coefficient of correlation between macronutrients and soil properties, a significant and positive correlations observed between soil pH and available N, P, K. Electrical conductivity exhibited significant and positive relationship with available N, P, K and organic C showed significant and positive correlation with available N and K.

Abstract

The grid based surface (0-25 cm depth) one hundred ninety eight soil samples from four blocks viz., Dharsiwa (54), Abhanpur (48), Tilda (54) and Arang (42) of Raipur districts, (C.G) were collected using global positioning system (GPS) and were analyzed to assess the status of available sulphur (S) and their relationship with some physico-chemical properties of soil. Results revealed that the available S varied from 16.24 to 80.24 kg ha^-1 with an average of 39.90 kg ha^-1 in Dharsiwa block. At Abhanpur, the available S varied from 12.07 to 79.80 kg ha^-1 with an average of 43.94 kg ha^-1. At Tilda, available S varied from 8.68 to 97.22 kg ha^-1 with an average of 41.59 kg ha-1 and similarly in Arang block it ranged from 8.96-98.84 kg ha^-1 with an mean value of 38.83 kg ha^-1. Among the four blocks the available sulphur status in soil decreased gradually from Abhanpur followed by in Tilda, Dharsiwa and lowest status was found in Arang block. Amongst the soil properties, pH showed negative correlation while organic carbon showed positive correlation (r = 0.091) with available S status in soil at Raipur. Soil nutrient index of the Raipur was to be found categorized under high fertility classes for available sulphur.

Abstract

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) are epilepsy like episodes which have an emotional rather than organic origin and thought to reflect emotional disturbance. Research on etiology of PNES suggests the role of multiple psychiatric and neurological factors. However, the psychopathology of PNES is poorly understood. Some studies have suggested a number of psychological disorders which has overlapping symptoms with PNES. Conversion disorder, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression to name a few, are the common co-morbid condition with PNES. Present study aimed at examining and comparing various psychiatric problems among PNES, epileptic and healthy control. For this purpose 60 participants, PNES (n=20), epilepsy (n=20), and healthy control (n=20) were recruited from department of neurology of Sir Sunder Lal hospital. Participants were administered with Symptoms Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) and responses were obtained on three administrations, each with PNES, epileptic and healthy control separately. Results revealed statistically higher level of psychiatric problem among PNES individuals in comparison to epilepsy and healthy control. It was concluded that psychiatric problem are more prevalent among PNES patients and health professionals should consider the psychiatric dimension during diagnosis and treatment of PNES.
