A three year field experiment was conducted during September - March of 2010-2011 to 2012- 2013 at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam to study the influence of humic acid with graded levels of inorganic fertilizers on productivity, nutrient uptake, economic and soil fertility of brinjal var KKM1. The experiment was carried out in Randomized Block Design replicated thrice with 11 treatments. Humic acid was applied through both in soil and foliar spray with 75 per cent RDF (N75 P37.5 K22.5). Application of 75 per cent RDF (N75 P37.5 K22.5) + 10 kg HA (SA) + 0.2 per cent HA (FS) /ha produced significantly higher plant hight (112.0 cm), days to 50 per cent flowering (56.4), number of branches/plant (9.4), number of fruits /plant (25.3), single fruit weight ( 69.9 g), fruit yield (33.4 t/ha), total dry matter production (10.08 t/ ha), net return (Rs. 1,33,131 / ha) and B:C ratio (4.29), N, P and K (143.1, 33.3 and 148.6 kg/ha, respectively) uptake compared to control. However, 75 per cent RDF (N75 P37.5 K22.5) + 10 kg HA (SA) + 0.1 per cent HA (FS) /ha had higher plant height, number of branches, days to 50 per cent flowering, number of fruits per plant, single fruit weight, fruit yield, total dry matter production, net return, B:C ratio, N,P and K uptake. Significant built up of organic carbon (0.92 %), available N (291.5 kg/ha), available P (25.4 kg / ha) and available K (293.7 kg / ha) was registered with 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg HA (SA) + 0.2 per cent HA (FS) /ha. The maximum balance of N, P and K (25.5, 8.6 and 25.2 kg/ha, respectively) were recorded under the treatment with application of 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg HA (SA) + 0.2 per cent HA (FS) /ha.Keywords

Compatibility of selected insecticides, fungicides and weedicides, commonly used in sugarcane, with Beanveria bassiana (Balsamo-Criv.) Vuill. Beauveria brongniarlii (Sacc.) fetch and Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorukin, the entomopathogenic fungi that occur naturally on several pests of the crop, was evaluated in in vitro assays. Radial growth, biomass and spore production used as parameters did not show consistent trend for the five insecticides tested. On the basis of per cent reduction in spore production, however, chlorpyriphos (0.04%) was most toxic to all three fungi (100%); lindane (0.04%) was most toxic to B. brongniartii (100%) but least toxic to B. bassiana (26.3%) and M. anisopliae (17.1%); monocrotophos (0.036%) was moderately toxic to B. bassiana (43.0%) and M, anisopliae (35.2%), and least toxic to B. brongniartii (13.4%); malathion (0.10%) was most toxic to M. anisopliae (88.2%) and B. brongniartii (69.1%), and moderately toxic to B. bassiana (43.0%); endosulfan (0.035%) was moderately toxic to all three species (49.5-58.1%). Carhendazim (0.05%) was completely toxic to all three fuugi (100%); maneozeb 0.08% was also equally toxic to all three fungi (69.5-100.0%). Glyphosate (0.205%) was most toxic (88.1%) to B. bassiana and moderately toxic to B. brongniartii (39.3%) and M. anisopliae (58.2%); atrazine (0.35%) was moderately toxic (40.5-55.7%) to all three fungi; 2.4-D (0.20%) was moderately toxic to B. bassiana (45.9%) and B. brongniartii (63.3%), and least toxic (17.7%) to M. anisopliae. The implications of the results in sugarcane pest management involving entomopathogenic fungi are discussed. Keywords

E-learning system is a comprehensive software package that supports for teaching the subject, testing, simulation, discussion or other significant aspect. In software system development process, estimation is playing very important role. The success of any software project largely depends on effective estimation of project effort, time and cost. Estimation helps in setting realistic targets for completing the project. The widely used software estimation techniques like LOC, FP, and COCOMO are not effectively supported for estimating E-Learning systems because the structure and components of E-learning system is different and also the current estimation methodologies given generic solution to all kind of software system. The characteristics and specifications of subject oriented software like E-learning systems not fully come under the limit of existing estimators. They provide wrong estimates and lead customer dissatisfaction due to incompleteness, loss and delay. So in this research paper, along with the concepts of FPA, the new size metric is proposed for E-learning system estimation. This Technique considers the document part and application part of E-Learning system very effectively and estimates the size. In addition with size metric new flexibility metric introduced, it is used to calculate flexibility of software. Keywords

Rice is one of the main staple food of man and is grown in almost all the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of pre-sowing seed hardening treatment with different chemicals such as 1% CaCl2, 1% KCl, 1% KNO3 and 1% NaCl and organics such as 10% cow dung and 3% panchagavya on seed quality and seed yield in rice cv. ADT 36. In general seed hardening treatment of rice before sowing significantly increased the seed quality characteristics and yield attributing characters when compared to untreated seeds. From the result, it was observed that 1% CaCl2 seed hardening treatment improved the seed quality characters such as germination percentage, speed of germination, shoot length, ischolar_main length, seedling length, dry matter production, vigour index and yield attributing characters such as number of productive tillers per plant, number of seeds per panicle and seed yield per plant. Hence, rice seeds hardened with 1% CaCl2 may be recommended to get higher seed yield and seed quality. Keywords
