Abstract

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jaora District Ratlam conducted Front Line Demonstration programme for increase yield of Kharif crop soybean through use of improved variety seed in KVK operating area. Soybean is one of the most important oilseed crops in Madhya Pradesh, where it is grown 4.25 million ha area with the annual production of 4.50 million tones. Its cultivation is pre dominantly done in Ratlam district. It is observed that the farmers of Patidar, Dhakad and Aanjna community adopted the technology easily in comparison to other community farmers. Similarly adoption technology was more in educated farmer than uneducated farmers. Rich farmers took risk and adopted new technology faster than poor farmers. Front Line Demonstration was conducted for year 2004-05 to 2008-09 showed that percentage increased 29.36 to 41.50 compared to farmers practice in yield every year. Front line demonstration play important role in increasing the production of soybean with provide full package of practices to the farmers, like providy improved seed, seed inoculation with rhizobium culture, seed treatment with carbendazim or thiram, application of plant protection measures and weedicide application.

Abstract

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a major crop with largest area under cultivation in India and plays a significant role in economic stability of the country. Many insect pests attack wheat in India, severe damage is caused by aphids as serious pest of wheat crop which cause yield losses either directly (35-40%) by sucking the sap of the plants or indirectly (20-80%) by transmitting viral and fungal diseases. They can multiply very rapidly under favourable conditions on leaves, stems and inflorescence. The infestation causes severe distortion of leaves and inflorescence and can significantly decrease the yield through direct feeding. The production of chlorophyll (green colour) is prevented by the attack of aphid resulting in curling of leaves and delayed head emergence causing improper maturity of grains. The aphid incidence level differed in different cultivars of wheat. The resistance of crop is an index of the balance that exists between the preference of the pest for crop and its antibiosis against it. The mechanical barriers possessed by the plants which prevented insects from feeding or ovipositing on them. The infestation significantly affected the ischolar_main dry weight, number and height of tillers and number of spikes per head. Leaf epicutticular wax, ultra structure and leaf trichome were different on susceptible wheat cultivar and resistant cultivar. Leaf trichome density and position may act as a physical obstracle to the Russian wheat aphid feeding. An increased amount of glutamic acid, glutamine, alpha amino butyric acid, phenylalanine and proline and less methionine, produce resistance in wheat plants against aphids. Hydroxamic acids (Hx) have been shown to be a major biochemical mechanism of resistance of wheat to aphids, acting through antibiosis and feeding deterrency.

Abstract

The seed production technology is the most successful technology for farmers. By producing seeds which helps the farmers in the availability of latest variety seed as well as increase in seed replacment ratio. This help farmers in income generation and improment in there socio economic status. By the success of Shri Rakesh Rathore other farmers also motivated for seed production and process for formation of Seed Production Group is in progress.

Abstract

The productivity of pulse crops continues to be quite low due to technological gap in adoption pulses of technology. The yield of pulses can be increased by demonstrating their cultivation technologies at farmers field under the supervision of scientist working in operational area. Keeping the above fact front line demonstration were under taken by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jaora, District Ratlam (M.P.). The improved package of practices of chickpea in the district for five consecutive years wise 2002-03 to 2006-07. The highest seed yield (1725 kg/ha) was recorded in year 2004-05 and it was 43.75 per cent more over the farmers practice (1200 kg/ha). However, the lowest yield (1313 kg/ha) was recorded in FLD in the year 2002- 03 and 880 kg/ha in farmers practice. The variation in the per cent increase in yield was found due to variation in agro-climatic parameters under rainfed condition. The demonstrated farmers act also as source of information and pure seeds for wider dissemination of the HYV of chickpea for other farmers.

Abstract

The study was conducted in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh to find out the constraints faced by aonla growers in adoption of improve cultivation practices of aonla. 120 aonla growers were selected randomly from three Blocks of district. The data were collected by personally interviewing the respondent and analysed statistically. The result of study depicted that majority of aonla growers faced the major constraints towards adoption of improved cultivation practices, non-availability of planting material from reliable sources, lack of knowledge about budding and grafting, higher cost of pesticides and fungicides, fertilizers and non-availability food processing and value addition units for overcoming these constraints. Aonla growers suggested to make strategies for marketing guidance, ensured transportation, popularizing high density orcharding, proper pruning after harvesting and availability of quality planting material for aonla cultivation.

Abstract

Front Line Demonstration is an appropriate tool to demonstrate recommended technologies among the farmers. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ratlam (M.P.) conducted 50 demonstrations on mustard since 2005-06 to 2009-10 in five adopted villages. The critical inputs were identified in existing production technology through farmers meetings and group discussions with the farmers. The average five years data revealed that an average yield of demonstration plot was obtained 18.94 q/ha. over local check (13.94 q/ha) with an additional yield of 4.97 q/ha and the increase average mustard productivity by 33.80%. The average technological gap and technological index were found to be 6.05 and 24.21%, respectively.

Abstract

Abstract

The study was conducted on 120 respondents (chickpea growers) selected randomly from 10 villages of Shahpura block of Jabalpur district. to assess a profile of the chickpea growers. The majority of the respondents were middle age group with above middle passed education, large size of land holding, had participation in social organization and having moderate economic motivation and scientific orientation regarding recommended chickpea production technology followed by low sources of information and contact with extension personnel with moderate knowledge level regarding improved chickpea production technology.

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at three locations for two seasons, 2018 to 2020 to evaluate the efficacy of soil insecticides against sucking pests of potato. Lowest cumulative mean number of whiteflies was observed with fipronil 0.3G @ 25 kg/ ha, and it was on par with its dose of 20 kg/ ha, cartap hydrochloride 4G @ 20 and @ 25 kg/ ha; overall reduction in whiteflies over control ranged between 56.70 and 59.04% at Jalandhar; 53.17 to 60.89% at Modipuram, and 57.33 to 62.40% at Gwalior. Similar trends were noted for aphids, leaf hoppers and thrips. Based on tuber yield and benefit cost ratio, cartap hydrochloride 4G @ 20 kg/ ha (2.62) and fipronil 0.3G @ 20 kg/ ha (2.47) were found to be the most effective against the sucking pests of potato. Hence, both these can be recommended in potato in place of phorate 10G.

Abstract

Efficacy of dosages of sulfoxaflor 12%SC were evaluated for the control of foliar aphids under Contract Research Project on wheat during rabi seasons of 2014-15 and 2015-16 at the research farm of ICAR- Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal, Haryana. The standard check insecticides thiamethoxam 25WDG and quinalphos 25EC were included along with sulfoxaflor, and all the treatments were found to be significantly superior. The incidence of aphids/ shoot/ plant was significantly less with sulfoxaflor 12 SC @ 24, 27 and 30 g a.i./ ha with 94.54, 95.27 and 96.03% reduction, respectively; these being at par with each other, followed by thiamethoxam 25WDG @ 12.5 g a.i./ ha and quinalphos 25EC @ 250 g a.i./ ha. The seven-spotted ladybird beetle Coccinella septempunctata L. was the main natural enemy observed in the crop, and its counts were the least (1.50/ m2) with thiamethoxam 25WDG @ 12.5 g a.i./ha at 14 DAS. The pooled data revealed that the yield was significantly more with sulfoxaflor 12SC @ 24, 27 and 30 g a.i./ ha (52.21, 52.62 and 54.32 q/ ha) followed by thiamethoxam 25WDG @ 12.5 g a.i./ ha (49.87 q/ ha) which was at par with quinalphos 25EC @ 250 g a.i./ ha (47.73 q/ha). Considering incremental cost benefit ratio, sulfoxaflor 12% SC @30 g a.i/ ha (1:2.70) is the most economical, and no phytotoxicity symptoms were observed at its doses @30 and 60 g a.i/ ha.

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute-Regional Station, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh during 2015-16 and 2016-17 to evaluate efficacy of mineral and non-edible seed oils against green-peach aphid Myzus persicae and cotton whitefly Bemisia tabaci in potato. Three sprays were done at 15 days interval revealed that maximum reduction in their incidence was observed with imidacloprid 17.8SL (0.03%) followed by mineral oil (6 ml/ l); B. tabaci incidence reduced by 72.63% and 61.06%, respectively, while it was 87.60% and 62.27% with M. persicae. Similar trend was observed with all the three sprays. The non-edible oils were not effective. Incidence of viruses was the least (0.26 and 0.27%, respectively) with imidacloprid 17.8SL (0.03%) and mineral oil (6 ml/ l). Thus, imidacloprid 17.8SL (0.03%) and mineral oil (6 ml/ l) can be recommended to manage vector-virus complex in potato.
