The study of nose is as old as the human civilization. Nose, a midline structure has acquired a unique status socially, sexually, aesthetically and important of its physiology not only as an organ but also as a special sense organ. Social crimes such as adultery and sex offenders were punished by amputation of nose. Reconstruction of the amputed nose by using cheek and forehead flaps to form new nose was the most significant contribution in ancient surgery in rhinology. The major contribution for the reconstruction originated in India by Sushruta in 600 B.C. He described the technique of total reconstruction, which is still being practiced today as Indian Rhinoplasty. The technique was further practiced and refined to modern plastic surgery in Europe and United States in 18th century. Other contribution was from Greek physicians, Hippocrate, and Galan, and at the birth of the Christanity, Celsus wrote eight books of medical encyclopaedia, which described various conditions affecting nose.Keywords

Nuts and bolts are widely used fastening elements in industrial and household applications. They offer a good amount of tightening load to remain in the fastened element and also cause easy assembly and disassembly. However, they are also subject to loosening under transverse vibration. Therefore, fasteners need be properly selected according to their applications or else they may cause fatal mishaps by their loosening. In the present work, an effort has been made to evaluate a comparative study of loosening tendency of various threaded fasteners. Tests have been carried out on 3/8 BSW Stainless Steel and High Tension Steel Bolts fitted with different nuts and washers. Tests were carried out on an indigenously made testing rig. The decrease in clamping force has been recorded at regular intervals. Then a comparative study of the loosening tendency of the threaded fasteners is made to find out one having good resistance to loosening under hostile vibration condition.Keywords

Threaded fastener is widely used in industrial and household applications. It retains good amount of tightening load and also offers easy assembling and disassembling. However, it can be loosened under vibration thereby causing fatal mishaps sometimes. In the present experimental investigation, a comparative study of the anti-loosening tendency of various high tension steel M14 threaded fasteners is evaluated on an indigenously made testing rig offering accelerated test facility. It is observed that the decrease in clamping force is the lowest after 12600 oscillations for nylon wrapped bolt. Hybrid double nut is found to show good resistance to loosening next to nylon wrapped bolt.
