Objective: Obesity is increasing worldwide at an alarming rate in both developed and developing countries among women. The present study was aimed to assess knowledge and practices of life style modifications among obese women of reproductive age group in selected urban and rural area of district Ludhiana, Punjab.
Material and method: This comparative research study included 200 obese women of reproductive age group (15-45years) from urban and rural area by convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using structured questionnaires.
Results: Nearly half of the sample (46.5%) was in the age group of 26-35years and more than half of them (51.5%) had B.M.I above 25. One fourth of the obese women (26%) were educated up to secondary from urban and rural area. The prevalence of obesity was 51% and 30% in urban and rural area respectively. Almost similar percentage of women in both groups (69% and 70% in urban and rural area respectively) had sedentary life style.
Conclusion: Sufficient knowledge of life style modifications was present among obese women but they were not practicing that knowledge appropriately therefore, further studies are recommended to probe the situation which hinder them to practice healthy life style to prevent obesity.

Educational aspirations have been identified as a main strategy for widening educational participation in lifelong learning process. The present study explored the effect of gender and home environment on educational aspirations in a random sample of 200 adolescents studying in +1 class in the government and private schools located in Patiala district of Punjab. The data was collected with the help of educational aspirations scale and home environment inventory. The results of the t-test revealed significant gender differences in educational aspirations among adolescents. Further, it was found that educational aspirations among adolescents are negatively and significantly correlated with the negative dimensions of home environment viz. deprivation of privileges, rejection and permissiveness. However, the educational aspirations among adolescents are significantly and positively correlated with positive home environment dimensions of reward and nurturance. Implications of the results are discussed.Keywords

Inclusive education is a worldwide phenomenon widely advocated in the recent past. Teacher characteristics such as attitudes are considered as the most important factor for successful inclusion. The present study investigated the attitude of elementary school teachers towards inclusive education as related to certain characteristics of these teachers. A survey was conducted on a random sample of 195 elementary school teachers teaching in various private and government schools of Patiala district of Punjab. A scale for measuring the attitude towards inclusive education (ATIES) was used. The results of t-test revealed significant differences in attitude of elementary school teachers towards inclusive education with regard to gender, location, type of school, years of teaching experience, educational qualifications, teacher training, having a family member/ friend with disability and level of confidence in teaching students with disability. The implications of the results are discussed. Further, some useful recommendations are provided for teachers, educators and policy makers and implementers in India.Keywords

Over the last few years, India is experiencing a revolution in healthcare sector. Due to increase in diseases, it has become the responsibility of hospitals and medical staff to provide the best facilities and the personal touch to the patients. While doing this job, the employees have to undergo through emotional labour and burnout. The objective of this study is to find the influence of emotional labour on job satisfaction in selected public and private hospitals of Punjab. The total sample comprises 1193 doctors, nurses and paramedical staff (ratio 1:2:1) from hospitals. The Dutch Questionnaire on Emotional Labor (D-QEL) developed and validated by Nearing et al. (2005) and burnout tool by Pines and Aronson (1988) were used to assess physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. Descriptive statistics was applied to check the level of emotional labour and burnout, structural equation modelling technique was applied to find the influence of emotional labour on burnout. Results showed that employees in selected hospitals of Punjab had moderate level of emotional labour and burnout. There was a positive significant correlation between emotional labour and burnout. Emotional labour emerged as the significant predictor of burnout as standardized regression coefficient of emotional labour and burnout was 0.74. Hospital authorities should provide emotional assistance to their employees by providing their employees with recreational clubs, yoga training, seminars, etc.Keywords

Nature has showered its blessings equally to all the human beings but still of these equal opportunities, equal capabilities provided to us some of us lead in life with pleasure, happiness, contentment and well being. The reason for these individual differences might be of our passion and perseverance known as grit. The present study is an attempt to find the level of grit and its effect on mental well being of 200 students appearing in different competitive exams. The findings of the study revealed that there was a high level of grit and moderate level of mental well being. Grit has moderately affected the mental well being of the students. Age and time spent on for study have no significant association with the grit. There were no gender differences for the scores of grit and mental well being. To being perseverant in sustaining interest and effort, and pursuing well-being through engagement seems to increase subjective well-being. To achieve the higher levels of grit individuals should pursue hedonia as their approach towards well-being.Keywords

The life of each and every individual is being influenced by the adversities of varying magnitudes. One of the most disturbing adversities may come in the form of sickness. The quality of life of an individual can take a toll when he acquires the news of cancer and undergoing the turmoil of subsequent treatment. However taking a positive approach like finding a Silver lining and maintaining it can do wonder in fighting with this deadly disease. The present study is an attempt to explore a silver lining among the 100 cancer patients in Ludhiana city. To get the data from the patients a brief interview session was followed by a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that the perception of silver lining was on the moderate level .The patients were not much worried about what would happen to them rather they were of in solace that their families are doing much for them. They had realized that fact they could come out of this illness only when they would accept and fight with it. Male patients turned out to be more close to silver lining than their counterparts. Unmarried patients were also more close to hope to come out of it rather than married patients. The reason could be that they did not have any liabilities as the married patients had. The similar findings were also depicted in the analysis of variance for number of dependents. No significant differences were found for the concept of silver lining for the demographic variables age and type of the cancer. Similar mean scores were reported in both the groups.Keywords

The main purpose of the study was to find out the gender differences on emotional intelligence and the psychological well-being of the high school students. It was also the aim of the study to establish a relationship between the emotional intelligence and well-being of the school students. For it, two tests of emotional intelligence i.e.; Mangal test andEkta'test andP.G.I. Well-Being test were administered to 400 high school students, The results of the study show that on emotional intelligence male and female students differed significantly; and male students had more emotional intelligence. The females were better on self motivation and empathy whereas the males were better on social skills. On the psychological wellbeing variable, significant differences were not found on the basis of gender of the students. There is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing.Keywords

Big data systems provide us with capability of storing, capturing and analyzing big data, but such systems face lot of challenges. So there is need to develop benchmarks in order to compare and evaluate such systems. Big data benchmarks generate system workloads and tests for evaluating its performance and provide meaningful results. In this paper, benchmark test on Cassandra database is performed using Yahoo Cloud Service Benchmark. Python is used to establish connection with Yahoo Cloud Service Benchmark in windows operating system. At first keyspace is created in Cassandra, then loading and running data in Yahoo Cloud Service Benchmark. The final results will appear in the form of throughput, latency and run time.Keywords

This paper has evaluated the relative performance of 12 major districts of Punjab in terms of Human Development and Economic Growth and examined the two-way link between them during 1981-2001. Expectation of life at birth positively but non-significantly affected inter-district variations in EG. For EG induced HD, per capita NDP negatively and significantly affected inter district variations in literacy rate and positively and non-significantly affected inter-district variations of life expectancy. Classification of districts based on their performance on HD and EG reveals that out of 12 districts, only four districts were in the category of lopsided HD and six districts were in the category of virtuous cycle as per the indicators of HD (HDI, literacy rate and expectation of life at birth) in 2001. The results suggest that the policy should be such that HD induced growth process is strengthened for lifting the districts to the virtuous cycle category.- Analysis of HIV Using Health Care System

Diseases are common now days and are difficult to detect. Some diseases are life threatening and some are normal in nature. Detection and prevention of life threatening diseases is important. One of the most widely spreading virus is HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). The disease caused by HIV is not curable up till now. This virus can spread to other persons under certain circumstances. The circumstances which make this virus spread are analyzed in this paper. In the proposed paper we conduct analysis of various HIV infection viruses and system by which this virus spread forward. The database which is present at GenBank is used. Database is online in nature. Internet of things will be used in order to detect the persons who are infected with this virus. The key point in this paper is to use GPS system in order to indentify the infected persons and to confined them as early as possible.

Background of the study: - Pregnancy and Childbirth are the most important event of a woman's life. Too many mothers and children in the world are dying or suffering from the effect of ill health, poor nutrition and inadequate health care. Each year, more than half a million mothers die in childbirth. Parenting is the hardest job any people will ever have. Planning about parenthood is considered as a vital step in economic and social planning. It helps to improve socio cultural changes, provide an opportunity for the couple to decide the family size, thereby reduce the mortality and morbidity rate of mother and children.
Objectives:
1. To assess the pretest knowledge regarding planned parenthood among primigravida women.
2. To assess the posttest knowledge regarding planned parenthood among primigravida women.
3. To compare the pretest and posttest knowledge regarding Planned Parenthood among primigravida women.
4. To find out the association between posttest knowledge regarding planned parenthood among primigravida women and selected socio-demographic variables.
Research Methodology: Pre-experimental research design (one group pretest and posttest) research design was used in the study. The sample size was 60 primigravida women were selected from selected areas of district Jalandhar, Punjab using Multistage sampling technique.\
Result and Conclusion: The pretest mean knowledge score was14.43 and posttest mean knowledge score was 24.48. The significant difference between pretest and posttest mean knowledge 16.800* so research hypothesis (H1) was accepted at p<0.05 level of significance. Hence, it was concluded that structured teaching programme was useful in providing knowledge regarding Planned Parenthood.

The main purpose of the study was to find out the gender differences on emotional intelligence and emotional maturity of the high school students. It was also the aim of the study to establish a relationship between the emotional intelligence and emotional maturity of the school students. For it, two tests i.e.; Mangal test's Emotional Intelligence and Yashvir Singh and Bhargava's test of Emotional Maturity were administered to 400 high school students, The results of the study show that on emotional intelligence male and female students differed significantly; and male students had more emotional intelligence. The females were better on self motivation and empathy whereas the males were better on social skills. On the emotional maturity variable, significant differences were found on the basis of gender of the students, where the males were more emotionally matured. There is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and emotional maturity.Keywords

Shyness is considered as a barrier in developing and maintaining relationships in a healthy manner among adolescent population. The present study was intended to investigate the correlation of public speaking anxiety, self-efficacy with shyess. Shyness Scale (Cheek & Melchior, 1985), Public Speaking Anxiety Scale (McCroskey, 1970), and Self-efficacy Scale (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995) were administered on 109 female adolescents. Results indicate the positive correlation between public speaking and shyness (r= 0.54 ; p > 0.01). Self-efficacy and shyness are found to be negatively correlated (r=-0.38; p > 0.05 ). Results are discussed in discussion.Keywords

Speech is one of the most useful and effective communication medium used as the biometric feature of human being. Speech Recognition is considered as important part of various applications for biometric recognition and translation. Speech can be acquired inexpensively using some mic or phone device. But because of different noise factors that can be included during acquisition increases the complexity in recognition process. Because of this, there is the requirement of more effective and reliable approach for speech recognition. In this present work, a statistical analysis based predictive model is defined to improve the speech recognition. The presented work is defined in the form of a layered model. In first layer of this model, the speech signal improvement is done. To achieve this, the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and spectral subtraction based approach is defined for noise reduction. This layer improves the speech features. In second layer, the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) improved statistical model is defined to generate the speech features. This layer uses the segmented mean value, standard deviation, variation analysis as the statistical features. In final stage, Distance based mapping is applied on all these features collectively to perform the recognition. The work is implemented for Hindi word recognition. The work is implemented in Matlab environment.Keywords

Hand gesture technology makes users’ lives simpler, achieving “hands free” interaction through eliminating the need to hold or press the device. Since the need of human computer interaction has increased to a great-extent, such a technique needs to be devised that do not depend on Vision or Wearable sensors approach. This paper is a sincere attempt to recognize gestures using EM field detection approach. This requires only an EM field transmitter and a detector (receiver). The novelty of this approach is, it not only reduces extra cost for wearable or vision based sensors but would also account for a wide range of coverage area. In addition to this, method to recognize gestures through EM Waves with the help of a laser light is also practically implemented. The demonstration of this method is illustrated with the help of Macromedia Flash Player. This theory will certainly reduce the cost factor and add to the simplicity of the current human computer interactions.Keywords

Regression Testing is one of the most important and expensive activities of Software Maintenance. It involves testing the modified program to reveal faults introduced during maintenance and keeping the software's level of reliability, as cheaply as possible. Two techniques of regression testing are discussed. The first is a selective technique which identifies the modified structural attributes of a program (required elements) and selects a resettable test case set to exercise them. This technique is based on the Potential-Uses criteria family and is implemented by a regression testing tool working in conjunction with a testing tool. The second technique comprises procedures for testing and regression testing activities.. In this paper we have presented the various types of regression testing techniques their classifications.Keywords

Background/Objectives: The objective is to reduce the order of the plant and design discrete time PID controller using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Differential Evolution. Methods/Statistical analysis: Two popular optimization techniques – PSO and Differential Evolution (DE) are used to obtain the reduced order model of the physical plant and its discrete time structure specified PID controller. The objective function used for model order reduction is an integral square error between outputs of original and reduced order model. Whereas, the controller designs, integral square error between output and reference signal is chosen for tracking purpose. Findings: Nominal models for physical systems are highly complex and their order is usually very high. Designing controllers for such models in industries require huge amount of cost and large number of hardware components. The optimization techniques will prevent this issue, as shown in this paper. The optimal reduced model and optimal controllers are extremely useful for the industrial applications. Application/Improvements: In this paper, this methodology is proposed to design discrete time controller for a process of eight orders. But, this approach can be effectively applied to the complex plants for implementation of controller.Keywords

College students face a significant amount of stress due to various factors. Many aspects of college life, as well as the stress that comes with m, can all impact a student's physical and emotional health. The major objective of the present study was to study gender differences m stress and psychological hardiness among college students. The study was conducted on a stratified random sample of 210 college students studying in final year in different private and government degree colleges of Patiala district of Punjab. The Life Experience Survey (Johnson & Sarason, 1978) and Psychological Hardiness Scale (Nowack, 1990) was used to assess stress and psychological hardiness among college students respectively The results of the t-test revealed significant gender differences m stress (both positive and negative) among college students. However, non-significant gender differences have been found in psychological hardiness among college students. Implications of the results are discussed.Keywords

Image compression is a method through which we can reduce the storage space of images, videos which will helpful to increase storage and transmission process's performance. In image compression, we do not only concentrate on reducing size but also concentrate on doing it without losing quality and information of image. Image compression may be lossy and lossless. In lossless compression the exact original data to be reconstructed from the compressed data. Lossless is in contrast to lossy data compression, which only allows constructing an approximation of the original data, in exchange for better compression rates. This research is about the image compression based upon the wavelet compressions, and use both lossless and near lossless compression. In this research a Fuzzy Measure based classifiers are specified to classify image dataset for image compression.Keywords

With growth in digital commerce and internet access, digital payments services have huge potential in the country; however, consumer adoption of digital payments system is still low in India. Therefore, the present study tries to validate the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model to predict the behavioural intention to use digital payment system. A sample of 112 Undergraduate students of the University of Patiala is used to examine the research hypotheses. The findings indicate that performance expectancy and social influence are important determinants for digital payment system adoption and use, but effort expectancy has a significant negative influence on behavioural intention and facilitating conditions have no influence on behavioural intention to use digital payment system. The study offers several practical implications for digital payments service providers and banks regarding the marketing of new payment systems to increase users’ behavioural intention to use this payment system.Keywords

Recently, it has been found by the authors that heavy metal oxide based glasses are the potential candidates as substitute for conventional concretes as gamma-ray shielding materials. Glasses have the advantage as compared to concrete due to (1) their transparency to visible light (2) they can be prepared in wide range of compositions thus enhancing the possibility of choosing the elements and their mole fraction as per choice. During the investigations, it has been found that there should be improvement in brittleness and elastic properties of the glasses. Aim of present study is to get the information regarding the acoustical behavior and structure properties of one of the heavy metal oxide glasses. Glass samples of the xPbO (0.60-x) Bi2O3 0.40 SiO2 system (x=0.10 to 0.50) were prepared by melt quenching technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction, ultrasonic velocity and FTIR measurements. Mole fraction percentage of PbO has been varied from 10 to 50%. The longitudinal velocities of ultrasonic waves were measured in these glass samples at 5 MHz using pulse echo technique. FTIR spectrum has been recorded in the wave number range of 400 to 2000 cm-1. Their data for density, molar volume, infrared spectra and ultrasonic properties were analyzed in order to study their structure systematically. It is estimated that the data may provide the clues which may improve the mechanical properties of the glass samples.Keywords

The study examined procrastination in relation to anxiety among university students. The study was conducted on 164 female college students of Punjab. 164 postgraduate students from two colleges of Punjab University, Chandigarh i.e. Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur and S.B.S. Memorial Girls College, Sukhanand, Moga were taken randomly for this study. Tools used for this study were Procrastination Scale (2013) Abraham and Test anxiety scale (1978) Sharma Descriptive method of research was used to conduct the study. T-test and Pearson's product moment correlation was used for attaining the objectives of this study. After analysis of the result, it was found there was no significant mean difference in procrastination among female college students in relation to locale. There exists no significant mean difference in procrastination among female college students in relation to rural and urban family structure. There exists no significant mean difference in anxiety among female college students in relation to locale. There exists no significant mean difference in anxiety among rural and urban female college students in relation to family structure. It is also found that there is negative correlation between anxiety and procrastination among female graduate students.Keywords

Objectives: To decompose the total factor productivity of Indian Software industry into efficiency change (catch up) and technical change (innovation).
Methodology: The study is entirely based on secondary sources of data. The data is obtained from various sources, which includes World Bank, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), CMIE Prowess, and Indian Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF). The study has used the Malmquist Productivity Index in order to carry out the analyses for decomposition of total factor productivity into innovation and catch up.
Findings: The results show that during the study period, the TFP has increased by an average rate of 3 percent. The study found that out of 100 firms, 45 firms have increased total factor productivity. Most firms are trying to catch up their peers rather than surpassing them. It is clearly supported by the analysis that out of 100 firms 82 have shown an increase in efficiency change (Catch up) while as only 8 firms have shown growth in technical change (innovative).
Improvements/Applications: Indian IT sector is required to follow new directions. In order to survive in the long run with the same zeal, the industry demands to consolidate its strengths and move up the value chain if it has to maintain its head start on the competition. Most importantly, it will have to invest substantially in research and development and create linkages to encourage career prospects for researchers in engineering. As a matter of necessity, the companies in the industry should focus on the path-breaking technology rather than following the linear process.

In the beginning of 20th century, the technological advancement in medical sector has lead to the increase in the percentage of the advanced age population. Now due to fall in fertility rate, better nutritional conditions, improvement of basic public health services, and control of infectious diseases the number of aged people has increased. The present study was conducted on 200 dual earner respondents through judgment sampling. Data was collected through a questionnaire developed by Fusun et al. (2011) named as AAS (Ageism Attitude Scale). The findings revealed that there was a positive ageism attitude among working couples. Respondents agreed that physical appearances of elderly people look weak and fragile. Elderly people should not be paid less in their work lives. Working couples agreed that elderly people should not go on travelling by their own family should accompany them so that they could spend quality time with them. Further, it was also found that both males and females equally respect their elders. Working couples were not able to spend enough time with their elders but still they care and think about elders' benefit. Young people should be guided in the family from childhood that aged people are the assets for the family not a economic burden on the family. For this the government should make the strong retirement plans, pension schemes, and old age homes so that youngsters should take their elders as a integral part of their society. Faking of emotions of respect, care should not be developed rather it should be felt within.Keywords

Banking organisations need an effective workforce to keep customers happy. These days, every organisation try to give the best possible outcomes to their client. For this they are training their employees to hide or face their personal feelings for better results. In the process of keeping customers happy by ignoring their personal feelings, employees generally face emotional labour which leads to lowering down of their mental and physical health. The present study aims at studying the relation between emotional labour and well-being. The data of 251 bank employees from three districts i.e. Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana was collected through simple random sampling for collecting the data on Emotional Labour, a standardised questionnaire of Blau (2010) was used as for well-being, standardised questionnaire of Kaur (2014) was used. Empirical research was conducted to check the correlation between emotional labour and well being. Mean, median, mode and skewness was applied to test the level of emotional labour and well being and the results obtained from descriptive statistics showed average scores on emotional labour and low scores on well being. Emotional Labour was negatively correlated with well being. Females had higher scores of well being than males. ANOVA technique was applied to find the difference among different age categories with emotional labour and well-being and results revealed that there was no significant difference for emotional labour but partial difference for wellbeing. Similarly the test was applied for the testing of significant difference on the basis of gender and marital status. The results showed that unmarried employees had better scores of well being than male employees. Both the variables emotional labour and wellbeing showed a noticeable difference in the different category of experience. Employees working in various service organisations perform emotional labour on daily basis which affects their physical and mental health.When employees fake emotions they suffer from various problems related to heath which lowers done their well being. There was a reverse relation between emotional labour and well being wherein a higher emotional labour resulted in higher well being. Well being can be improved by providing training to employees. The present study was confined to 251 respondents of public sector banks only. Upcoming researcher can do research on private sector bank employees. The study was confined to three districts of Punjab. In the future, it can be done on other areas of northern Punjab.Keywords

Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) was introduced in to the curriculum of B.Sc. Home Science (Hons.) by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, in the year 2002. It aims at bringing improvement in quality of life of rural families. It had also been realized that formal system of education is restricted to classroom and laboratory situation. In real life situation learning through experience has become an integral part of the education. This informal education enables the students and teachers to actively participate in examining the subject matter and it’s utility to solve problems of the rural women. The present study was planned to assess the extent of adoption of home science practices disseminated under Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) programme of College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. Four villages i.e. Rauwal, Sidhwan Kalan, Talwandi Khurd and Sarabha of Ludhiana district were selected for the purpose of the study. A total of 120 rural women constituted the sample of the study. The findings of the study inferred that the extent of adoption of majority of respondents for Apparel and Textile Science (77.50%) and Family Resource Management (74.16%) was low. Consequently, it may be concluded that there is a large scope for betterment of adoption rate of home science practices by rural women.Keywords

The present investigation was conducted to assess trainee’s profile for better adoption of home science practices. The study was conducted in purposively selected Rauwal, Sidhwan Kalan, Talwandi Khurd and Sarabha villages of Ludhiana district, where RAWE (Rural Awareness Work Experience) programme was conducted during the year 2013-14 to 2016-17. From each village, thirty rural women who were exposed to home science practices during RAWE were randomly selected. Thus, a total of 120 respondents constituted the sample of the study. Data were collected through a well structured and pre tested interview schedule. The results of the study showed positive and significant relation between the educational qualification, land holding, annual income of family and mass media usage. However, age was negatively and significantly associated with adoption status of practices. Practices should be need based and cost effective and students should be trained properly before RAWE were the major suggestions given by the respondents for improvement in RAWE programme.Keywords

Land types, resource availability, and weather variability are the main causes of unpredictable crop yields. Therefore, scientists from all around the world are working to develop methods that can efficiently and accurately predict crop yields well in advance so that farmers may take the necessary steps to address upcoming issues. Crop production depends entirely on timely observation and advice. Farmers can reduce their losses if appropriate recommendations and information about the crop is provided. Machine learning is the prevailing technology that helps farmer to minimize agriculture losses. The study's primary goal is to explore different learning techniques used to predict crop yield. Reviews carried out in agriculture sector indicated a strong preference for deep learning methods and hybrid models for crop yield prediction.Keywords
