Employees are the most important resources of any organization. The success of an organization also depends on retention of its employees. If an employee retains himself for a job in a particular organization, it refers to the job satisfaction that he gets. This is not an exception for hospitality industry. The hospitality industry is the fastest growing industry with expansion in technology and wide movement of people from one place to another for many purposes. In this regard, the present study analyses the employees’ satisfaction towards retention practices in hospitality industry with reference to top hotels in Chennai. Simple random sampling technique is used to select 100 respondents from the top 21 hotels in Chennai city. The study revealed that employees’ satisfaction towards working environment and flexible working hours play a dominant role in determining employee retention practices.Keywords

Software Defined Radios (SDR) is integrated with dynamically configurable software to enable Cognitive Radio (CR) design. Higher Channel densities management and continuous service provision are the performance measures for SDR. Incorporating adaptive modulation capability in sophisticated wireless communication techniques necessitates an Automatic Modulation Recognition for SDR. The abundant demodulation requisite for SDR is not catered sufficiently by available Automatic Modulation Recognition techniques. This paper deals with a novel method of automatic modulation identification for Software defined radio. The proposed technique uses a simple method of appending a unique pilot sequence to each modulated data for identification purpose. This work analyzes the performance of the identifier for typical modulations under noisy conditions and at different Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs). A pre-processing module is also adapted in the modulation identification technique and performs rejection of noise, normalization, carrier frequency estimation and recovery of complex envelope.Keywords

Automatic modulation recognition for software defined radio (SDR) is a research focused on developing 3G and 4G wireless communications with adaptive modulation capability. The existing automatic modulation recognition technology does not satisfy the seamless demodulation requirement of the SDR. The design of automatic modulation recognition method with reduced computational complexity and fast processing speed is needed. The radio systems are increasingly incorporating dynamically configurable software into software defined radio (SDR) design. The ability to change software after manufacture makes SDR a perfect platform for designing Cognitive Radio (CR). The equipment must handle higher channel densities and must meet a high-availability standard to provide uninterrupted service. In addition, the equipment will be flexible to accommodate various air protocols. The statistical performance of the fast automatic modulation recognition associated with its implementation using the SDR is discussed in this work.Keywords

A comparative study for transforming a slow motion system (SMS) into Fast Motion system (FMS) is presented. Priority inversion problem occurs when multiple tasks are running in parallel and request the access of the resource at the same time thereby making the system response slow. In this study an existing SMS running on LPC 1768 board is transformed to FMS using real time concepts -Mutex in μcos that provides inbuilt solution for priority inversion problem by changing the priority of lowest priority task to highest priority momentarily. In the results section, SMs and FMS results are measured which are dependent on different tasks based on priority levels.Keywords

Computers have a plethora of different applications, spread over a wide spectrum of different branches such as electronic fund transfers, air traffic control, and storage of information in medical systems and so on. In all these security is an important aspect of any operating system and access of information to only properly authorized individuals or processes through the use of special security features should be ensured. The main objective of the proposed self healing scheme is to share and secure the information of any system at the same time. However, sharing and protection are two contradictory goals. Protection programs may be completely isolated from each other by executing them on separate non-networked computer, however, this precludes sharing. The proposed work provides data security based on Dynamic Information Flow Tracking by keeping track of the modified capabilities of the resources. A novel feature of this work is that the proposed architecture allows passive threats to co-exist, thus, making the architecture more user-friendly.Keywords

To reduce energy consumption, adiabatic logic families are used, which utilizes AC voltage supplies to recycle energy of circuits instead of being dissipated as heat, a flip flop is realised using PAL-2N (pass transistor adiabatic logic) logic. Using this sequential circuit is implemented. The energy saving is further attained by including power gating in the circuit. A security mechanism is defined as the protection of systems against threats to confidentiality, integrity and availability. An intrusion is defined as any location of action that crack to negotiation the reliability, confidentiality and availability of a source. The procedure of monitoring the events occurring in a system/network and analyze for sign of intrusions. In this study, a generic framework for tracking the IP address of the nodes connected to a server and subsequently identifying the hostname and perform intrusion detection is presented. The techniques proposed energy aware routing schemes and ease congestion by recovering the time slots from „non-alive‟ nodes and allocate it to alive nodes in every iteration. In this paper, the results section is used for the testing and different IP nodes connected within an individual range is followed. The entire study is done using Network Emulator tool.Keywords

This paper discusses an embedded reconfigurable architecture to perform error detection and correction in the physical layer in OSI network. Specifically, the three popular self-healing architectures namely, Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC), Longitudinal redundancy Check (LRC) and Character Stuffing; are implemented in the field programmable gate array (FPGA). Performance metrics are used to assess the feasibility of the designed reconfigurable architecture. Additionally, to justify the hypothesis of single faults and avoid accumulation of undetected errors in FPGAs and memory systems, scrubbing is used. Relatively little research has been done on designing fault-tolerant reconfigurable fine-grained systems like FPGAs which are complete (i.e. including error recovery). In case of a fault occurrence the correct operation of the affected module must be restored and/or the current state of the circuit coherently re-established. The proposed system shall serve as a core for future embedded server with an ability to perform error detection and correction.Keywords

This paper uses the wavelet, Contourlet transform and the two dimensional Principle Component Analysis (2DPCA) for image denoising. The simulation results is carried out to demonstrate the performance of proposed techniques and the result shows that 2DPCA is superior over contourlet and wavelet transform in maintaining high peak signal -to-noise -ratio. The denoising algorithm is validated by numerical experiments on different standard images and roughness images. Numerical result shows that the proposed method can obtain higher PSNR and less visual artifacts compared with other methods. Also, Contourlet can provide a much more detailed representation for natural images with abundant textural information than Wavelets. The improved two dimensional PCA (2DPCA) extended the traditional principal component analysis theory to the two dimensional situation, and proved to be especially efficient in the analysis of images.Keywords

Level set-contour region based segmentation methods are the numerical techniques for tracking interfaces and shapes. They have been successfully used in image segmentation. It consists of an internal energy term that penalizes deviations of the level set function from a signed distance function, and an external energy term that drives the motion of the zero level set toward the desired image feature. The energy to be re-formulated in a local way. It considers local rather than global image statistics and evolves a contour based on local information. Localized contours are capable of segmenting objects with heterogeneous feature profiles that would be difficult to capture correctly using a standard global method.Keywords

In this work, a method to reduce electroencephalogram (EEG) artifacts from Visual-Evoked Potentials (VEP) in brain-computer interface (BCIs) design is presented. For the test composite signal the frequency ranges corresponding to stimulus-related VEP components were located using cyclo stationary (CS) analysis based algorithm. The resulting cyclic frequency spectrum provides VEP frequency band detection. Using this identified frequency ranges, low pass or band pass filtering is employed for EEG artifacts reduction. The proposed Statistical Coefficient Selection (SCS) and wavelet-based method called Wavelet Denoising Algorithm (WDA) are used to distinguish VEP components and EEG artifacts. To compare the performance of two speech coders, it is necessary to have some indicator of the intelligibility and quality of the speech produced by each coder. The term intelligibility usually refers to whether the output speech is easily understandable, while the term quality is an indicator of how natural the speech sounds. It is possible for a coder to produce highly intelligible speech that is low quality in that the speech may sound very machine-like and the speaker is not identifiable. On the other hand, it is unlikely that unintelligible speech would be called high quality, but there are situations in which perceptually pleasing speech does not have high intelligibility. We briefly discuss here the most common measures of intelligibility and quality used in formal tests of speech coders.Keywords

This paper presents the design of adders using the ultra low power two phase clocked adiabatic logic. Using this logic the basic NAND, NOR, EXOR is designed for designing the 8bit ripple carry adder and the D-flip-flop is constructed using the adiabatic NAND logic and the shift register is evaluated using the D flip-flop to design the serial adder and the performance parameters such as energy dissipation, frequency of operation, are compared with static CMOS and from the results found that it saves up to 70% of power.- Intelligent Agent System and Their Implementation–A Case Study on Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS)

An Intelligent Agent System (IAS) is a structure, which is used in network environment through huge number of agent systems accomplish simultaneously in analogous on the same host with synchronous communication. An agent is an encapsulated system that is situated in some environment that is capable of flexible, autonomous action on behalf of user environment. In this study, Tsunami Early warning system (TEWS), which is focusing on procedure and mechanisms to assure the hazard of people to be alert in time and proficient to perform in a appropriate reaction as a warning in timely manner. In this paper, the result shows throughput average rate of message delivery over a physical link through a network over a communication channel that delivers data packets. It evaluates load packets which are represented in arrival rate (λ) and the throughput rate (μ).

A new methodology in partitioning of hardware/software that helps to complete the tasks in time without missing the deadlines is proposed. The scheme is endowed with a sensible and swift hardware elucidation to the quandary of irregularity between data and metadata in multiprocessor systems when information flow tracking functionality is decoupled from the main core. This resolution influences cache lucidity mechanisms to witness interleaving of memory operations from application threads and repeat the same order on metadata processors to preserve uniformity thereby permit approved implementation of dynamic scrutiny on multithreaded programs. Maintains reliability even when a graphics code is moved from user mode to kernel mode. Thus, there is no degradation violation in the proposed scheme. Also, a multistage process approach is used in the present work to allocate and there is no need to alter the applications that are run subsystems are created and allocated dynamically such that any user mode process are offered to run programs across different operating system.

Temperature control in plastic extrusion plant is a crucial process. The first order temperature control system comprises of coupling effects, long delay time and large time constants. The model is controlled with three unique control techniques. The first technique is PID control;the second is fuzzy logic control while the third control technique is Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Control. ANFIS controller is most powerful approach to retrieve the adaptiveness in the case of nonlinear system. While designing a controller it must be first tuned to the system. The tuning synchronizes the controller to the controlled variable and make the process to kept at its desired operating condition. Relatively ANFIS controller gives improved performance than PID & FUZZY controller as shown by simulink of Matlab.Keywords

Rainfall data for the period 1976-2010 was used to analyze seasonal and annual variability of rainfall. The mean annual rainfall is 849.0 mm with 28 per cent variability; with standard deviation of 241.1 mm. The rainfall during 1981-1985 periods ranged from 487.0 mm to 1337.7 mm with a mean rainfall (772.1 mm). Pre-monsoon season rains were deficit in 16 years, excess in 13 years and normal in 6 years as against the normal rainfall of 69.0 mm, the SWM rainfall was normal in 4 years, excess in 13 years and deficit in 18 years while during post-monsoon season there was only two normal rainfall year, deficit in 18 years and excess in 15 years.Keywords

The analysis of daily rainfall data of thirty five years (1976-2010) indicate that the average annual rainfall for the Bhalki region will be 884.3 mm with coefficient of variation of 23 per cent indicated that the annual rainfall was more or less stable over the years. The rainfall during 1986-1990 the SD (282.5 mm) was more with a CV of 27 per cent indicating more variability and dependability even though the mean rainfall (1033.8 mm) was higher when compared to other periods. During the months of south west monsoon (SWM) season (June-September) the rainfall ranged from the lowest 326.3 mm in 1994 to the highest 1076.7 in 2010 as against the normal SWM rainfall of 683.5 mm. The analysis of past 35 year's rainfall data revealed that, there was no single severe drought year.Keywords

SiC reinforced polyester nano-composites have been investigated to explore its thermal behavior and the possibilities of its performance improvement. This has been accomplished through addition of small amount of nano sized particles to the composite and by subjecting it to conduct of subsequent experimentations. Nano-composites find applications in the manufacture of special and process equipments. In this study, the composite is fabricated using a weight ratio of 30% for SiC which is reinforced with the remaining polymer matrix. Studies were done to understand the morphology and thermal behavior by conducting different tests and analysis such as thermal conductivity test, TGA and FE-SEM analysis.Keywords

The present investigation comprised of experimental study of conventional milling of AISI D3 Steel and Tin coated inserts by using cryogenic CO2 as a coolant. The main objective of the analysis was to use the Taguchi technique to detect the impact of dynamic parameter viz. Cutting speed, feed, depth of the cut on the roughness of the work piece material. The goal was to comparatively study under dry and wet conditions and observe the effect of cryogenic CO2 as a coolant with CVD TiN coated as a insert tool. Finally cutting temperature, roughness, Material Removal Rate (MRR) and tool wear were measured. Finally SEM observation was made to analyze the tool wear and the data was complied into MINITAB-17 for Taguchi analysis. Mainly surface roughness and MRR were investigated employing Taguchi design.Keywords

A field experiment was carried out to study the effect of sulphur, zinc and iron nutrition on growth, yield and nutrient uptake by safflower on Vertisol at the Main Agricultural Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, during Rabi season 2002-03. The results indicated that application of 30 kg S per ha showed superior growth parameters like plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of branches per plant and dry matter per plant, yield components like number of capsules, seed weight per head, 1000-seed weight and nutrient uptake of N, P, K, S, Zn and Fe as compared to other treatments. Combinations of sulphur along with micronutrients had significant influenced on the growth, yield and nutrient uptake by safflower. The treatment receiving 30 kg S per ha+Fe+Zn foliar recorded the highest growth, yield and nutrient uptake as compared to 30 kg S per ha, 20 kg S per ha+Fe, Zn foliar, 10 kg S per ha+Fe+Zn foliar spray and control.Keywords

A study was conducted in Kalghatgi taluk of Dharwad district, during the year 2001-2002 to study the effect of sulphur fertilization on growth and yield parameters of rice (Oryza sativa L.) involving the sulphur applied in soil at different doses 15, 30, and 40 kg S/ha, through SSP to find out the best combination for attaining results revealed that various levels of sulphur applied soil, with the four treatment combination. The maximum grain(3483 kg ha-1) and straw yield (5413 kg ha-1) was recorded at 40 kg S/ha were at par with that 15 kg S/ha, the per cent increased in tillers was 5.37,8.56 and 9.35 at 15, 30 and 40 kg S/ha, respectively, over control.Keywords

In this article, we discuss the potential of airborne hyperspectral data in mapping host rocks of mineral deposits and surface signatures of mineralization using AVIRIS-NG data of a few important geological provinces in India. We present the initial results from the study sites covering parts of northwest India, as well as the Sittampundi Layered Complex (SLC) of Tamil Nadu and the Wajrakarur Kimberlite Field (WKF) of Andhra Pradesh from southern India. Modified spectral summary parameters, originally designed for MRO-CRISM data analysis, have been implemented on AVIRIS-NG mosaic of Jahazpur, Rajasthan for the automatic detection of phyllosilicates, carbonates and Fe–Mg-silicates. Spectral analysis over Ambaji and the surrounding areas indicates the presence of calcite across much of the study area with kaolinite occurring as well in the north and east of the study area. The deepest absorption features at around 2.20 and 2.32 μm and integrated band depth were used to identify and map the spatial distribution of phyllosilicates and carbonates. Suitable thresholds of band depths were applied to map prospective zones for marble exploration. The data over SLC showed potential of AVIRIS-NG hyperspectral data in detecting mafic cumulates and chromitites. We also have demonstrated the potential of AVIRIS-NG data in detecting kimberlite pipe exposures in parts of WKF.Keywords
