Natural disasters have continued to take a toll on the lives and livelihoods of people since eons. The strongest tropical cyclone of 2011 named Thane, severely wreaked havoc in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, causing extensive damage to cashew plantations and consequently disrupting the means of survival of several small and marginal farmers. The foregoing paper presents the case of such farmers in the Meliruppu village in Panruti Block of the said district. It endeavours to capture the post disaster livelihood insecurity among the cashew farming households and adoption of specific coping strategies to tide over the resultant distress. The study further contemplates suggestions for the effective recovery and resurrection of livelihoods of the affected populace.

In this paper, an algorithm was developed for the construction of stability lobe diagram. The algorithm makes use of stiffness, natural frequency and damping coefficient of the system. Stability lobe diagram was constructed for C 0.6 mm end mill. Experiments were conducted on DECKEL MH 6000C 4-axis CMC machine with high speed spindle of 42000 rpm and 2.5 KW spindle and capable of 6 m/min cutting feed on work piece material of aluminum alloy two thousand series (AA 2014) commonly used for aircrafts, structures, engine fuel tanks, trucks frames and wheels. The stability lobe diagram was validated with the surface finish measurement on the machined surface. Concrete is a composite material made from cement, water, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate Increase of cement production and disposal of waste materials into the environment results in adverse impact on the environment. Present study is focused on finding partial replacement for cement by waste materials or waste products that are harmful to the environment. Stone dust a waste obtained from quarrying process is used as partial replacement of cement and the effect of this replacement on the basic properties like standard consistency; initial setting time, final setting time and compressive strength of cement mortar were analyzed. Addition of stone dust up to 5 to 7.5% results in strength development with consistency and setting time values being within specified limits as per IS codes.Keywords

Soil degradation is a pervasive, systemic phenomenon and an urgent priority in order to ensure human wellbeing, protect biodiversity and ecosystem services. Agriculture sector is frequently affected by soil loss resulting into unproductive soil and lowered crop yields. This article focuses on critical sustainable challenges of Indian agriculture, soil degradation status and mitigation strategies as well as policies and management response options in respect of development of degraded lands. It also provides policymakers with the necessary information to develop appropriate mitigation technologies at the local, regional and national scale.Keywords
