Abstract

SOA is an architectural style for building software applications that use services available in a network such as the web. It promotes loose coupling between software components so that they can be reused. Applications in SOA are built based on services SOA is gradually replacing monolithic architecture as the premier design principle for new business applications. It promises lower integration costs, increased reusability and improved enterprise agility and adaptability. The architecture evaluation will improve the problem understanding and it will clearly distinguish the strength and weakness of the architecture. It also performs the cost-benefits analysis for different alternatives and injects the reviewer’s expertise into the project. If software architecture is a key business asset for an organization, then architectural analysis must also be a key practice for that organization. Architectures are complex and involve many design tradeoffs. Without undertaking a formal analysis process, the organization cannot ensure that the architectural decisions made—particularly those which affect the achievement of quality attribute such as performance, availability, security, and modifiability—are advisable ones that appropriately mitigate risks. In this research work an attempt has been made to investigate the possibility of evaluating the Service Oriented Architectures employing a new quantitative evaluation method exclusively. The most suitable SOA providing maximum satisfaction to the stake holders is to be identified.

Abstract

Rubber and thermoplastic rubber occupies a considerable extent as bottom sole material in shoes. A surface treatment called "halogenation" is offered on these types of soles to improve adhesion strength between upper and outsole. This is a treatment on Thermo plastic Styrenebutadiene- styrene rubber shoe sole (S1) with a 0.5 % wt. solution of trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCI) in methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) to introduce chlorinated and oxidized moieties on the rubber surface which modifies the surface of the sole for better adhesion with polyurethane adhesive. This mechanism of surface modification is made use of to improve slip resistance property of the soling material. In this study slip resistance in terms of co-efficient of friction (COF) of untreated and treated soles were measured by a slip resistance tester ( Model : SATRA STM 603). The results showed that chlorination treatment made on thermo plastic styrene-butadiene-styrene rubber sole with 0.5 % wt TCI produces a noticeable increase in co-efficient of friction values due to increase its surface energy, polarity and surface roughness on the rubber surface.

Abstract

Photorhabdus luminescens is a Gram-negative, symbiotic bacterium associated with entomopathogenic nematodes of the genus Heterorhabditis. Several genes from this organism related to insecticidal properties are being examined for their potential in pest management. Oxalate decarboxylase (OXDC), an enzyme secreted by bacteria and fungi and putatively associated with insecticidal pathways catalyses the manganese dependent decarboxylation of oxalate to formate and CO₂. In this study, we report the X-ray crystal structure of OXDC isolated and purified from Photorhabdus luminescens (PlOXDC, MW 43 kDa) determined at 1.97 Å resolution. PlOXDC protomer has a bicupin structure. Each cupin domain consists of two antiparallel β sheets organized as a sandwich with a Mn²⁺ ion bound at the active site. PlOXDC exists as a mixture of monomeric and trimeric forms in solution but assumes a trimeric form in the crystal structure.
