Chikungunya virus is an insect-borne virus, of the genus Alphavirus, that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. The virus causes an illness with symptoms similar to dengue fever with an acute febrile phase of the illness which lasts only two to five days. Infection can affect the nervous system or the musculo-skeletal system. General symptoms include fever, headache, maculopapular rash, arthralgia, myalgia, photophobia and lymphadenopathy. Virus isolation provides the most definitive diagnosis. The most effective means of prevention are protection against contact with the disease-carrying mosquitoes and mosquito control. NSAIDs, chloroquine and DNA vaccine are the effective medicines.Keywords

In the last two decades allergic infections have became more because of modernizations, change of life style and industrializations. It is reported that more than 9 million children under the age of 18 suffer from allergies and asthma. Belgaum is the district where humidity is quite high (20-50%).Mold is the commonest problem in rainy season. Mold spores may cause allergic reactions or asthma attacks in sensitive people. The study was conducted during 2006-2008in professional groups at Belgaum district, Karnataka. Professional groups included Computer Operators, Bank Employees and Lab-Technicians from Belgaum. Multimedia package-CD and reading material-Booklet were prepared after extensive references about allergy and Aspergillosis and it's preventions. Questionnaire was designed to assess the knowledge of respondents. Pretest questionnaire and after exposing the respondents to media post questionnaire were collected and analysed by statistical methods. It was observed that multimedia CD was found to be more efficient (20%-25%) and attractive in disseminating the knowledge regarding the Allergy and Aspergillosis.Keywords

Celosia argentea Linn (Amaranthaceae) grows as a weed during rainy season throughout India and other tropical regions of the world such as Sri Lanka, South Asia, Africa and America. It is used traditionally for the treatment of jaundice, gonorrhea, inflammations, wounds, itching, diarrhea, blood diseases, mouth sores, and fever. It is also having an antipyretic, antidiabetic, antibacterial, diuretic, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, and antimetastatic properties.
Objective of present work is to standardize the aerial parts by morphology, microscopy and various physical constants. The morphology, microscopy, determination of various physical constants viz. ash values, extractive values, moisture content and phytochemical screening were performed.
Morphological study reveals that the leaf is green, linear-lanceolate, ovate, acute and entire; the stem is yellowish green, erect, simple with grooved branches, flowers are first pinkish afterward glistering white in color, seeds are black, polished and shining. Microscopically leaf shows presence of chollenchyma, 3-4 vascular bundles at the center, palisade cells on upper side only; and microscopically stem shows the presence of xylem vessel, cortex, vascular bundles and pith.
Total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash and sulphated ash of aerial parts was found to be 14.5 % w/w, 2.0 % w/w, 3.0 % w/w and 20.0 %w/w respectively. Water-soluble and alcohol soluble extractive values of aerial parts were found to be 16.2 % w/w, 6.0%w/w respectively. Moisture content of aerial parts was found to be 11.0 % w/w.

Tamarindus indica (Caesalpiniaceae) bark is used in the treatment of pain traditionally, present work was undertaken to prove this scientifically by using suitable animal screening models as hot plate test and acetic acid induced writing test at the dose of 50 mg/kg, i.p. Petroleum ether extract showed significant increase in reaction time as compared to other extracts. Preliminary phytochemical test showed presence of sterols and triterpenes in the extract; hence these compounds might be responsible for analgesic activity.- Significance of Fluorine in Medicinal Chemistry:A Review

A new series if substituted 1, 4-Dihydropyridine derivatives were synthesized and the structures of these compounds were established on the basis of spectral and elemental analysis. All the compounds were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity by paw edema, xylene induced ear edema and cotton wool granuloma methods. Compounds C4, C5, C6, C7 and C9 have been found to exhibit excellent anti-inflammatory activity.Keywords

A simple, selective, rapid, precise and economical reverse phase high-pressure liquid chromatographic method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Pseudoephidrine sulphate and Desloratidine from pharmaceutical formulation by using internal standard Nabumetone. The method was carried out on a HiQ sil C18 W (250mm x 4.6 mm) column, with a mobile phase consisting of Acetonitrile: Methanol :Ammonium acetate (45:40:15 v/v) at a flow rate of 1.5 ml/min. Detection was carried out at 265 nm. The retention time of Pseudoephidrine sulphate, Desloratidine, and Nabumetone were 2.067, 3.050 and 3.750min. Respectively. The developed method was validated in terms of accuracy, precision, linearity, Limit of detection, Limit of quantitation. The proposed method can be used for estimation of these drugs in combined dosage form for routine analysis.Keywords
