Abstract

An attempt has been made to discuss the techniques for designing and managing the bibliographical database by using WINISIS software package. This article deals thoroughly all the steps from creation to printing of records for 'Indian Agricultural Index' and the same steps can be utilized for any other indexing service. These steps are required for the creation of its main entry section, author and keyword indexes. The article will be useful for a beginner having no knowledge of computer programming for designing a database to fulfill the local needs of his/her users.

Abstract

The stability of the xylene in water emulsion stabilized by Aerosol OT was examined in presence of various cationic detergents viz. CTAB, CPB, CPC, TDTAB and DTAB. Adsorption parameters like interfacial tension, surface pressure and surface excess, number of molecules adsorbed/cm² etc. were evaluated by drop volume method using Agla micrometer syringe. Flocculation was studied haemocytometrically. Rates of flocculation as well as of coalescence were calculated. The creaming was also measured in presence of these detergents. Comprising all the above parameters the effects of these cationic surfactants is discussed for the present system.

Abstract

Stable xylene-in-water emulsions were prepared using tetrabutyl ammonium chloride as emulgent. Tbe system was flocculated by various surface active agents possessing different length of carbon-chain. The mobility of the system has been measured using microelectrophoretic apparatus. An attempt has been made to evaluate interaction energies between the emulsion globules at various interparticle distances. The flocculation of the system has also been assessed by counting number of singlets and doublets haemocytometrically.

Abstract

The emulsifying behaviour of finely divided solid stabilizers has been studied in detail under different physico-chemical conditions. The solid emulgents used include freshly precipitated Fe(OH)₃ and Cr(OH)₃ and their colloidal sols specially the partially flocculated ones. The promotion of the emulsion stability has been ascertained both kinetically and in terms of interaction energies between the emulsion drop lets. The hydroxide stabilized emulsions are found to be most stable (insensitive to the addition of electrolytes and heat). Partially flocculated sols promote reasonably stable emulsions, but the sols as such act as weak emulgents. Relatively high stability of the emulsions is mainly due to (i) their large size which leads to only secondary minimum flocculation and (ii) solidous nature of compact consistency of the emulgent film which prevents the drainage of the oil underneath.

Abstract

The present paper deals with the study of the Biological spectrum of the vegetation of North-East Haryana. A detailed study of different life-forms indicated that Nanophanero phytes (N) and Hemicryptophytes (Hc) are poorly represented. The study also indicates the presence of therochamaephytic (42%, 22%) flora. The dominance of therophytes might have partly resulted from disturbance in vegetation due to heavy grazing and exploitation of forests for extensive cultivation. A comparison of the biological spectrum of this area with those of other regions of India reveals that the climate is semi-arid.

Abstract

The newly created state of Jharkhand is very rich in the plant wealth and other natural resources. The area has maxium concentration of tribal population in North India. The forests have several medicinal and aromatic plants that are being used as a source of medicines in various systems viz., Ayurveda, Siddha Unani and Homoeopathy. Due to continous habitat destruction fragmentation of forests, urbanization coupled with population explosion and agricultural growth, there is unprecedented pressure on plants wealth culminating into loss of biodiversity at an alarming rate. The authors have regularly been surveying the state for the last fifteen years. Based on the field survey literature and screening ca 24 medicinal plants whose populations have been continously depleting are identified and reported in the present communication.

Demographic models of mortality, nuptiality and fertility have revolutionised techniques of estimating demographic measures for developing countries, which do not have sufficiently accurate basic data from censuses, surveys and civil registration. Most people in these countries are unable to give ages correctly. As a detailed study of the Indian age returns has shown, they are highly distorted.

The Registrar General, India has published the population of post-Partition India as from 1901, but not its age structure, which occupies such an important position in demographic studies. S.B. Mukherjee has given the age-sex distribution of the Indian Union-since 1881 according to 1971 layout by States and Union Territories in his book 'The Age Distribution of the Indian Population 1881-1961' by reconstructing the data from the district level, a tremendous task indeed.
