Non-timber Forest Products (NTFP) contribute an integral component of the food for the communities dependent on forests. Their role becomes more significant for less agricultural dependent communities with small land holding residing in remote forests. Fifty-four important NTFP species have been reported to be collected by the villagers in Gandigadha for consumption. However, a few new species like 'Sal' (Shorea robusta) leaves, tooth stick and seeds 'Mahula' (Madhuca indica) flower and fruit, 'Chara' (Buchanania lanjan) fruits, seeds and mushroom are collected and sold to local traders. Keywords

Objective: To study the anti-hyperglycaemic and analgesic activity of the ischolar_main extracts of Chlorophytum borivilianum Sant. & Ferz. on rats and mice respectively. Materials and methods: Anti-hyperglycaemic activity of the methanol extract of the ischolar_mains (100mg & 200mg/kg body weight, p.o.) was evaluated by using both normoglycaemic and alloxan induced hyperglycemic rats of six numbers in a group. The analgesic activity was assessed by using methanol extract of the ischolar_mains (100mg & 200mg/kg body weight, p.o.) on mice of six numbers in a group by Tail flick and Tail immersion method. Results: The methanol extract was found to produce significant reduction of blood glucose concentration between 2-4 hr. of administration in alloxan induced hyperglycemic rats at tested dose levels. However, in normoglycaemic animals, the extract at 200mg/kg produced significant reduction of blood glucose between 2-4 hr. of administration. In the analgesic study, the ischolar_main extract showed significant activity. In tail flick method the extract at 100mg/kg showed activity after 45 minutes whereas in tail immersion test, it showed significant activity after 30 minutes interval. Conclusion: Chlorophytum borivilianum Sant. & Ferz. has hypoglycaemic activity and analgesic activity. So it can be recommended for further studies. Keywords

The forest dwellers depend upon forest for meeting their livelihood requirements including fire wood, timber and other minor forest produce. But due to shrinking natural-resources and commercialization of forest products for urban utilization, forest fringe community is deprived of natural-resources which led them to frustration and anger. These have got manifested in the form of violence and unlawful activities by a section of forest dwellers. Scheduled Tribe and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of forest rights) Act 2006 was enacted to address these issues. Tripura state under the 6th schedule of the constitution has established the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District and empowered the fringe forest communities to govern themselves and to protect and preserve their culture, customs and traditions. Present article described the various steps taken by the Tripura Government to address various issues for the welfare of forest dwellers for creating "Win-Win" situation. Keywords

Recent survey has shown association of myocardial infarction with coffee-drinking. According to the scientists of Boston University^ people drinking more than five cups of coffee per day have about twice as great a risk of having an acute myocardial infarction as those drinking no coffee at all. They could not, however, find any association between tea-drinking and the disease. The findings of Jick et al confirmed those of the Boston scientists. Contrary to the above findings, other workers could not observe any association between coffee-drinking and myocardial infarction.- Antiulcer Activity of Cassia mimosoides Bark Extract and Its Comparison with Ranitidine in Shay Rat

Methanolic extract of Cassia Mimosoides bark was tested for its anti gastric ulcer activity in shay rat model. Oral dose with 5mg/kg body weight of ranitidine was found complete absence of ulceration. The anti gastric ulcer activity of Cassia Mimosoides Methanolic extract 800mg/kg body weight was found equal to the effect produced by 5mg/kg Ranitidine in shay rat.

Jumping gene or transposan is 4 segment of DNA that can move fram one position of the genorne to the other. Three broad classes of transposons are known to exist which are characterised by their peculiarities in genome organisation. Transpasons can affect the cell by inducing changes in the gene expression pat- tern and thereby causing various heritable changes,Keywords
