In present day work life saturated with individualistic values and cut throat competition, an investigation into the values of people indulging in some form of social service, voluntarily or as paid employees was deemed interesting. Hence, the major objective of the present study was to compare the voluntary and paid workers of various Non Government Organizations (NGOs) in terms of their values and altruism. 100 workers from various NGOs across Chandigarh, Panchkula and Jallandhar, willing to participate in the study were administered Value Survey (Rokeach, 1973) and Scale of Altruism (Kool & Sen, 1987). Results revealed significant differences in the value profiles of the two groups understudy. Though they agreed upon the end states of existence, but had differences in terms of their codes of conduct. Volunteers were found to be significantly more altruistic than their paid counterparts (t=2.77**). Significant correlations were also found between certain values and their altruistic tendencies. The study provides an insight into the underlying substrate of values and pro-social tendencies of people working in NGOs, actually meant to strive for social welfare.- A Comparative Study of Stress and its Perceived Correlates among Managerial and Clerical Cadres of Public Sector Banks

With the privatisation of banking sector, public sector banks are facmg tough competition. A need was feltto assess the levels of stress and its correlates amongst these bank employees. For this study, a sample of sixty clerical level employees and managerial level employees of bank organisation was taken. Stress level was measured by using Occupational Stress Index Scale by Snvastava and Singh (1981) and it's co-relates were measuredby a tailor-made Ratmg Scale. Results revealed managers to be significantly more stressed than clerks (1=4.64**). Correlations between stress and its correlates exhibited that managers were stressed because of their working hours, adverse work conditions, work climate, family problems and up-gradation of technology while clerks were more stressed because of theirresponsibihty towards higher level, workload, working hours and up-gradation of technology.Keywords

The present investigation endeavored to examine the various family typologies of Indian urban upper middle class society. Also, an attempt was made to ascertain the relationship between these family typologies and the values of the youth belonging to these families. For this purpose the study was conducted on around 1000 college students (age range 18-21 years). Out of these, 350 students (Males= 164 and Females= 195 ), belonging to upper middle class socio-economic status families and only to normal cohesive family typology were selected for further study. Results revealed that most of these Indian families emerged to be normal cohesive, though with a trend for altruistic, egoistic and anomic tendencies, respectively, in order of incidence. Clear cut trends were observed from the correlations between the values of the youth and their respective three family typologies (i.e. cohesive- egoistic, cohesive- altruistic and cohesive- anomic). Meaningful gender differences were also observed and were indicative of the present day transient Indian society.Keywords

The aim of the present research was to study life stress in relation to marital quality of couples in urban middle socioeconomic strata. A sample of 200 persons (100 married couples) was purposefully selected from Chandigarh and its neighbouring districts. Presumptive Stressful Life Events Scale (PSLES) by Singh et al. (1984) was used for measuring life stress (both for last one year and for the lifetime) and to measure marital quality, Relation Assessment Scale (RAS) by Hendrick (1988) was used. The average number of stressful events faced by these persons during their past one year and during lifetime came out to be 4.51 and 17.51, respectively. The average number of stressful events faced by these persons during their lifetime is more than the average number of events faced by an average Indian adult person without having these stressful events' adverse physical or psychological disturbance, but in case of the stress caused during the past year it is not so. When the couples were compared on life stress, husbands were found to be significantly more stressed than their wives. Overall marital quality was found to be high as experienced by both husbands and wives. Marital quality was found to have significant negative correlation with stress, both during the past one year (r= -0.223**) as well as for the lifetime (r= -0.152*).Keywords

The current study attempts to investigate counterproductive work behavior (CWB) in relation to personality traits of police personnel. CWB are group of behaviors that are involved in intentional violation of organizational norms, whereby, an individual deliberately harms organization and co-workers. Consequently, such behavior adversely affects work- efficiency of the organization and damages its reputation. The objective of this study was to investigate CWB in relation to Short Dark Triad personality traits (an important underlying factor of CWB) on police personnel. For this study two hundred police personnel aged between 30-45 years, at the rank of Inspector, Sub-Inspector and assistant Sub-Inspector were selected. To screen counter-productivity, a 32 item CWB-Checklist (Spector & Fox et al., 2006) a multidimensional self-report checklist measuring abuse, production deviance, theft and withdraw had been applied. Also, for measuring personality Short Dark Triad Scale (Jones & Paulhus, 2014) a twenty seven item multidimensional self-report inventory measuring dimensions like machiavellianism subclinical- narcissism and psychopathy had been utilized. The results suggested that although police-personnel were low on dimensions of both counterproductive work behavior tendencies and Short Dark Triad (SD3) yet, there emerged a positive relationship amongst them, indicating that these dark personality traits are important predictors of counterproductive work behavior.Keywords

According to Webster Dictionary (2021), addition is defined as a "compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for and use of a habit-forming substance, behaviour, or activity having harmful physical, psychological or social effects characterized by tolerance and typically causing well-defined symptoms upon withdrawal or abstinence". As the penetration of smartphone in this 21st century increases, a highly significant increase in the usage of this device is seen especially amongst the younger generation (Bianchi & Phillips, 2005). Now, with the facility of operating internet-based activity in the Smartphone and with its all-time convenient accessibility, its usage is soon turning into an abuse. Hence, the aim of the present research is to investigate the relationship between internet addiction and big five-personality traits among smartphone addicted female adolescents. For this purpose, Internet Addiction Test by Young (1998); Smart Phone Addiction Scale by Kwon and Lee (2013); and Big Five Inventory by John, Donahue, and Kentel (1991); and SES Scale (Singh et al., revised, 2017) were administered. The study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, Internet Addiction Test by Young (1998) and Socio-economic Status scale was administered and in the second phase, adolescents who scored more than 20 on Internet Addiction Test and those who belonged to middle-class socio-economic status were selected for the further study. A sample of 100 female adolescents in the age range of 15-18 years, studying in various private schools of Delhi and National Capital Regions (NCR) were thereby taken into consideration. Only students coming from two parent intact family and those possessing and using a personal smart phone for at least last 6 months were selected for the study. The students who were using either their parent's or any other family members' phone were not included. Purposive Sampling method was used for this study to ensure the homogeneity of the sample. Adolescent girls were moderately addicted to both internet and their smartphones. Results clearly exhibited that both internet addiction and smartphone addiction were related, but separate forms of addictions, having different personality correlates. Girls who were introverts and were less imaginative, creative or open minded but rather conventional were more prone to both forms of addiction. Whereas those girls who were less conscientious were higher on internet addiction, and perhaps found safe haven there, which may be reduced their anxieties and made them feel secure.Keywords
