Shelf life of talc based wettable powder formulation of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. was evaluated at room temperature (24±1°C), refrigerated condition (4°C) and in deep freeze condition (–4°C to –6°C). At room temperature, viability of conidia lasted up to 180 days with 20.22×107 conidia/gm, having 48% pathogenicity, whereas under refrigeration the same lasted for 210 days having the same conidial density but with 69.45% pathogenicity; under deep refrigeration, though viability lasted for 300 days with same conidial load, but substantially reduced pathogenicity to 20%.Keywords

Potato broth, rice gruel, coconut water, rice husk, sawdust and rice bran were evaluated for mass culturing of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill (Strain AAU-09). Amongst the solid media rice husk in addition of 2% dextrose was superior to others in terms of spore production (6.25 x 107 conidia/ml) and pathogenicity (86.67%) to Dicladispa armigera (Olivier) adults. Likewise, amongst the liquid media potato broth supplemented with synthetic chitin (2%), dextrose (2%) and peptone (2%) supported maximum spore production.Keywords

Physical traits of crop varieties influence the level of susceptibility of the varieties to the pest species. Investigations were carried out to find the possible influence of physical traits of certain green gram varieties on the life parameters of Nacoleia vulgalis. It was evident from the data that the varieties had significant affects on larval period and fecundity of Nacoleia vulgalisNacoleia vulgalisvulgalis. while the intensity of green colour of leaves, leaf area of medium aged leaves and number of trifoliate leaves showed significant correlations with fecundity. Pilosities of older leaves and medium aged leaves, red and blue colour intensities and leaf area of young leaves did not have any significant effect on larval period and fecundity of N. vulgalis.Keywords

Field and laboratory experiments were carried out at the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat during October, 2018 to April, 2019 to study the host plant preference of local lac insect Kerria chinensis on eight native plants of Assam viz., Flemingia semialata, F. strobilifera, Indigofera teysmannii, Ficus religiosa, Zizyphus mauritiana, Litchi chinensis, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Cajanus cajan. Results indicated that the maximum productivity of broodlac (0.31± 0.01kg) and longest lifecycle duration (171.92± 2.08 days) was recorded in F. semialata. Study on morphological parameters revealed that the girth of the bark of the plants possesses significant negative correlation with the settlement density of crawlers as well as production of lac. However, trichome density of the bark was found to possess positive but non-significant correlation with the settlement density of crawlers as well as production of lac.Keywords
