Abstract

In this mechanical era of very fast life style everyone has to face mental and physical stress and nobody has time to spend for his own health purpose. Hence to obey Dincharya and Rutucharya is far away from them. Shift duties, excessive travelling, irregular dietary habits, junk and fast foods etc. are some of the common causes which help in vitiation of Vatadosas. Considering all the above factors, it is very obvious that the ratio of Vatavyadhies is increased and Sandhivata(osteoarthritis) is one of them.

A series of 20 patients suffering from Sandhigata Vata vis-a-vis Osteoarthritis were randomly selected from O.P.D. and I.P.D. of Panchkarma P.G. Department, Rishikul Govt. Ayurvedic P.G. College and Hospital, Hardwar, Uttarakhand, for the purpose of clinical trials of present study. Out of 20 patients, only 16 patients could complete their full follow-up i.e. 3 months. 04 patients had left against their medical advice. Observation and results were drawn on the basis of pain, swelling, tenderness, crepitus, restriction of joint movement, joint stiffness, severity index of OA, VAS scale of pain and health satisfaction criteria. After full observation of therapies, it was found that no. of patient unchanged was 0, whereas, observed mild improvement was found in 5 patients (31.25 %), moderate improvement in 8 patients (50 %) and marked improvement was observed in 3 patients (18.75 %).

Abstract

Medicinal plants are valuable source of medicines and many other pharmaceutical sources. The conventional propagation method is the principal means of propagation and takes a long time for multiplication because of low rate of fruit set, and poor germination and also some time clonal uniformity is not maintained through seeds. Psoralea corylifolia is traditionally used for the treatment of various diseases, so that it has tremendously demand in pharmaceutical industry. The high cost of nursery plants and the time required for restored plants to complete their life cycle are commonly considered the barriers to successful propagation. The in vitro mass propagation reduces the cost and completion of the life cycle can be attained within reasonable time, reducing risk of extinction to the endangered wild population. On the whole, the present review gives a consolidated account of in vitro propagation and pharmacological profile in Psoralea corylifolia.

Abstract

The 21th century is described as the age of anxiety and stress. The modern man is constantly facing symbolic stress. This stress and strain of day to day life affects one's bodily organs through several psycho-physical mechanisms. The progress of medical science has helped us to conquer disease like plague, smallpox etc., but stress related diseases are rapidly increasing. Among the several psychosomatic diseases, the cardiovascular disorder like UchchaRakta Chapa (Hypertension) is quite significant. A series of 25 patients suffering from UchchaRakta Chapa vis-a-vis Essential Hypertension were randomly selected from O.P.D. and I.P.D. of Panchkarma P.G. Department, Rishikul Govt. Ayurvedic P.G. College and Hospital, Hardwar, Uttarakhand, for the purpose of clinical trials of present study. Observation and results were drawn on the basis of alteration in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, before and after treatment and gradation of general symptoms i.e. Shiroruka, Bhrama, Hridadravata, Shrama, Kampa etc. After full observation of therapies, it was found that no. of patient unchanged was 0, whereas, observed mild improvement was found in 2 patients (8 %), marked improvement in 13 patients (52 %) and excellent improvement was observed in 9 patients (36 %).

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to assess and find out significance difference of college going girls graduate from boys of similar education in terms of personality, adjustment and emotional intelligence. A total sample of 60 out of which 30 boys and 30 girls of College going graduates were selected from different colleges of Chandigarh using purposive and consecutive sampling method. The study was conducted at Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh. All the participants were administered: 1. Eysenck's personality questionnaire 2. Adjustment inventory of college students and 3. Emotional intelligence scale to assess their personality, adjustment and emotional intelligence of them. The result found Boys and Girls in College going graduates has similar personality traits and adjusted as no significant difference between the two groups found in the areas of emotion, home, education, social and health. Likewise, when concern about emotional intelligence both the group has similar nature of emotional intelligence in all the domains like- own emotion, regulation, social skills, utilization optimism and other emotions. It can be concluded from this study that both boys and girls in college going graduates has similar pattern of personality traits, girls are also adjusted well as much as boys in all the domains of adjustment and also has equal emotional intelligence like boys.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the contribution of parents to the ongoing academic progress of students. As no suitable measures were available, one scale was constructed to measure parental influence in academic performance. An item analysis was done to select the statistically sounds items. Factor analysis was done to determine the factorial structure of this scales. 120 students (both boys & girls) from different schools (government & semi government) constituted the sample. The results showed parental influences was positively correlated to actual academic performance (obtain from school records). Vis a visa boys, girls obtained higher scores on scale and perceived parental influence in positive manner. No significant school differences were found.

Abstract

Aim: The present investigation was undertaken to study the impact of heat stress and hypercapnia on physiological, hematological, and behavioral profile of Tharparkar and Karan Fries (KF) heifers.
Materials and Methods: The animals of both the breeds of Tharparkar and KF were exposed at different temperatures and CO₂ levels. Exposure conditions of 25°C, 400 ppm CO₂ level, and 60% relative humidity (RH) were taken as a control condition. The exposure conditions 40°C with two levels of CO₂ 500 ppm and 600 ppm with RH 55±5% and exposure conditions 42°C with two levels of CO₂ 500 ppm and 600 ppm with RH 55±5% were taken as treatments. The exposure period in each condition was 4 h daily for 5 consecutive days.
Results: Physiological responses (respiration rate [RR], pulse rate [PR], and rectal temperature [RT]) were significantly (p<0.01) higher and different during all exposure conditions compared to control condition in both the breeds of cattle. KF heifers had higher RR, PR, and RT than Tharparkar heifers. Hematological parameters, namely, red blood cell, hemoglobin, and packed cell volume were significantly higher and different during all exposure condition than control in both the breeds, whereas no significant changes were observed in total leukocyte count and differential leukocyte count. Blood pH increased with increase in temperature and CO₂ levels and was significantly higher than control conditions. PCO₂ and base excess were significantly (p<0.05) lower, and PO₂ was higher during different exposure conditions than control in both breeds. Restlessness and excitement signs were observed in all the exposure conditions as compared to control condition in both the breeds.
Conclusion: Changes in physiological responses, behavioral pattern, and hematological parameters reflect the current functional status of the body system, and it can be used as an index for assessing the adaptation capacity of cattle to predict changes occurring in climate variables due to increasing CO₂ levels and environmental temperature.

Abstract

The primary objectives of this study to examine working memory in a sample of individuals diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Working memory was assessed using the Digit Span, Spatial Span. This aspect was examined in 15 MCI patients and 15 matched controls. It was hypothesized that MCI participants would be more impaired relative to the control group on these different measures. Findings showed that MCI participants performance was impaired in compari son to the control group.
