Study design: A case report of a patient with Traumatic Central Cord Syndrome (TCCS)Objective: To analyse the benefits of BWSOT in early ambulation and gait performance.
Setting: Tertiary care, University teaching hospital.
Methods: A 25-year old man with TCCS at the C4 level, grade B on the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale (AIS) participated in BWSOT. Following the immobilization phase, he underwent two BWSOT sessions per day (20 minutes each), six days a week, for three weeks. AIS motor score, 10-m walk test, Walking Index for Spinal cord Injury-version II (WISCI-II), Spinal cord Independence Measure-version III (SCIM-III) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) were recorded at the time of initiating of BWSOT and at the end of three weeks. He received regular physiotherapy and occupational therapy during the entire hospital stay.
Results: Three weeks of BWSOT resulted in an increase in all the outcome measures. At the time of initiating BWSOT, AIS motor score, 10-m walk test, WISCI-II, SCIM-III and FIM were 45/100, 3 min 14 sec, 3/20, 30/100 and 60/126 and by the end of three weeks, they were 68/100, 1 min 41 sec, 17/20, 50/100 and 72/126 respectively.
Conclusion: BWSOT may allow therapists to initiate gait training programs at an earlier stage among those with stable TCCS with promising outcomes.

Scientometric approaches lead to trace the evolution of the discipline over time that marks the changes and cognitive shift within a discipline and topicality. Such assessments are on the way to become standard tools of evaluation and analysis in science policy decisions. This paper investigates the usage of bibliographic databases as tools of scientometric research, identify the problems encountered in using the bibliographic databases as tools of scientometric research, to discuss and describe the nature and extent of problems of the scientometric researchers is using the bibliographic databases and suggest measures to overcome and control the identified problems. Keywords

This paper reveals the use pattern of information channels by the scientists of CECRI, Karaikudi and engineers of BHEL, Tiruchirappali, Tamil Nadu. The data analyzed from the questionnaires showed that most of the scientists and engineers make use of formal channels more frequently than informal channels. Scientists and engineers collected most of their information through printed media. Most of the scientists have contact with persons elsewhere in their own establishment (informal channel). Most of the scientists and engineers depend heavily on scientific periodicals (formal channel) for getting their information. 'While pursuing to learn a new field' is the occasion through which the engineers receive their information; whereas, most of the scientists receive their information through 'while searching specifically'. Both of them feel that all communication channels that they need should be available in the library. Most of the scientists and engineers agree that easy accessibility makes them to access a particular information source. Scientists do their work in central laboratories; whereas, engineers do their work in divisions. Engineers apply their collected information for development task; whereas, scientists use it for their research purpose. Though the collected information is applied to various tasks - the mode of acquisition of information by scientists and engineers is same. Engineers and scientists attended conferences less frequently. The channel, library bulletin, provides most of the information on what is published in their field for both scientists and engineers. Fifty percent of engineers and 33.3% of scientists make 5 to 10 visits to their library in a month. Engineers spend more than 20 minutes to scan various communication channels for a particular information; whereas, scientists spend more than 40 minutes for it.Keywords

Bibliometric study of the 'Spice India' journal forthe period 1997-2001 is analyzed to understand the various characteristics of literature on the subject. Based on collected data, the study attempts to examine the year-wise distribution of articles, authorship pattern, length of articles, year-wise distribution of citation, subject wise breakup of articles and leading authors. Some inferences are also suggested based on the output of the analysis. Keywords
