Abstract

Two spectroscopic methods for simultaneous estimation of cefpodoxime proxetil (CP) and ofloxacin (OFL) in combined tablet dosage form have been developed. The first method is simultaneous equations method which involves the formation of simultaneous equations at 234.90 nm (λ_max of cefpodoxime) and 298 nm (λ_max of ofloxacin). The second method is Q-analysis method (Q-absorbance ratio), which involves the formation of Q-absorbance equation at 271.60 nm (Iso-absorptive point) and 298 nm (λ_max of ofloxacin). In this both method the linearity was evaluated over the concentration range of 2-10μg/ml for cefpodoxime and ofloxacin. The accuracy of the methods were assessed by recovery studies and was found to be 100.9±0.16% and 98.22±0.44% for simultaneous equations method and 99.5±0.133% and 98.90±0.65% for Q-absorbance ratio method for cefpodoxime and ofloxacin respectively. The proposed methods are simple, accurate, precise, rapid and cost effective. Therefore the proposed methods can be used for routine analysis of both drugs in bulk as well as in pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract

Solid-state reflection modulation electrochromic device (ECD) will have a significant place in future automobile rear-view mirrors and thermal control. In the present study we have prepared "solidstate ECD" structure consisting of layers Al / WO₃ / ZrO₂/ NiO / 'ITO' on a glass substrate using physical vapor deposition method. The fundamental electrochromic characteristic viz. reflectance modulation and switching time are measured on the fabricated prototype ECD. The device shows 65% reflections modulation (75%-10%) in the visible region of light with the coloration and bleaching time of 100 s and 300 s, respectively.

Abstract

For studying the effect of saline water usage through drip in brinjal, one field experiment was conducted on Vertic Halaquepts of Coastal Soil Salinity Research Station, NAU, Danti during 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05. The treatments consisted of 4 water salinity levels (2, 4 6 and 8 dS/m) and 3 moisture regimes (0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 PEF). The experimental soil was non saline-sodic (EC_2.5 0.28 to 0.43 dS/m and pH 8.89 to 9.58). The differences in yield of brinjal due to salinity levels and moisture regimes were not conspicuous during individual years and in pooled data also except that of salinity effect in pooled analysis. The interaction effect of water salinity and PEF levels was not significant. Among the salinity levels, application of water having EC 8 dS/m gave significantly lower yield than 2, 4 and 6 dS/m waters. Effect of different treatments applied to brinjal was not significant on the grain yield of subsequent paddy. Though, the soil salinity tended to increase due to irrigation with saline water in brinjal, it decreased considerably after harvest of paddy crop due to heavy monsoonic conditions of this area.
