In this paper, we describe the architecture of Tensai Gothalo, a network monitoring robotic vehicle developed in our previous research. Tensai Gothalo uses Wi-Fi modules to communicate with its slave node and also uses IR sensor modules that detects the path agent called the passage and assists an autonomous robotic vehicle called the Master Tensai Gothalo in capturing the powered off server. In order to properly manipulate Master Tensai Gothalo, it should be enhanced with the functionalities of routing, image recognition, network aggregation, and remotely controllable module. Instead of using general purpose distributed system solutions for these services, we employ whole lab grown technology integrating some of those functionalities with Raspberry Pi to implement simple and efficient mechanisms of robotic vehicle. We believe that such approach of integrating robotic vehicle with Raspberry Pi further enhances the network management and monitoring, yielding pragmatic solutions that leverage future network.Keywords

In India, western tragopan is reported from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. We documented the current status and distribution of western tragopan in J&K. We also predicted its potential distribution in the state. We used literature, field surveys and semi-structured questionnaire surveys to ascertain the distribution and conservation status of the pheasant species in J&K. Between 2007 and 2011, we conducted counts of western tragopan in five areas: Tattakuti Wildlife Sanctuary, Khara Galli Conservation Reserve (CR), Limber Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS), Lacchipora WLS and Kazinag National Park (NP) to assess its current status. We estimated 113 callers of western tragopan from Kazinag NP, Limber WLS, Lacchipora WLS, Tattakuti WLS and Khara Galli CR. We also discovered four new sites - Tattakuti WLS and Khara Galli CR (through direct surveys), Noorpur Galli and Narian-Ratannard (through secondary surveys) - of this species. We have confirmed the presence of western tragopan in Lacchipora WLS and re-confirmed its presence in Padder, Bhadarwa and Sudh Mahadev. Our habitat model predicted potential distribution of western tragopan, adding few additional potential sites. There is an urgent need to plan long-term monitoring and initiate appropriate measures to conserve the species.Keywords

This study examines the extent and nature of harvest of non-timber forest products (NTFP) by local human communities residing adjacent to the Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary in the Upper Brahmaputra Valley of Assam, northeastern India. The harvest of NTFP was monitored at 15 entry points to the sanctuary over a period of 41 days. Dry timber was the most dominant form of NTFP collected and the most preferred firewood species was Vatica lanceaefolia, a critically endangered tree species. About 25% of the harvested NTFP were food plants for the six primate species of the sanctuary. Highlighting the threats posed by this chronic extraction of NTFP to the vegetation and unique primate assemblage of the sanctuary, we recommend measures to check the unsustainable extraction of natural resources from this shrinking, and now highly threatened, forest patch.Keywords
