Medicinal plants have been found useful in the cure of a number of diseases including bacterial diseases. Nimba is a very useful medicinal plant in the sub-continent and each part of the plant has medicinal properties. Almost every part of the plant has been in use since ancient times to treat a number of human ailments and also as a household pesticide. The extract from bark, leaves, fruits and ischolar_main have been used to control leprosy, intestinal helminthiasis and respiratory disorders in children. Flavonoids, flavonoglycosides, dihydrochalcones, tannins and others are also important constituents of bark, leaves, fruits and flowers of Nimba. Present study aimed development and establishment of the HPTLC fingerprint profile and phytochemical screening of Nimba leaf and stem bark.Keywords

Standardization of the Ayurvedic medicine Dadimastaka Churn has been achieved by following modern scientific quality control procedures, both for the raw material and the finished product. Three samples from different batch were prepared in-house as per AFI and subjected to various physicochemical analysis and HPTLC fingerprinting. The obtained data of physical and chemical parameters for the finished product can be adopted to lay down new pharmacopoeial standards to be followed for classical preparation of Dadimastaka Churn with batch-to-batch consistency. The Phytochemical constituents found to be present in the raw material used for the preparation of churn facilitate the desirable therapeutic efficacy of the medicine.Keywords

India has a rich culture of medicinal herbs and spices, which includes Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha and other traditional medicines but only very few have been studied chemically and pharmacognostically evaluated for their potential medicinal value. According to the World Health Organization, most populations still rely on traditional medicines for their psychological and physical health requirements. Nagkesar is a very famous ayurvedic herb used in treating fever, vomiting, urinary tract disorders, migraine and also used to preparation of several compound formulation viz. Candanabalalaksadi Taila, Kumaryasava, Nagakesaradi Curna, Kankasava, Eladi curna, Jatiphaladi curna and Karpuradi churna etc. The present paper provides a detailed account of the scientific evaluation of Mesua ferrea stamens. The study includes macro and microscopic characters, powder microscopic characteristics, High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography fingerprint profile, preliminary phytochemical screening and physicochemical parameters. The information generated by this particulars study provides relevant pharmacognostical and physicochemical data needed for proper identification and authentication of Mesua ferrea stamens.Keywords
