Media plays a crucial role in shaping the attitudes of a society. Newspapers, social networking sites, television, radio and particularly 'cinema' are significant in developing our understanding of interpersonal relationships, social interactions, cultural diversity and distribution of gender based roles in the society. Media also helps in educating the masses about both behavioral excesses and deficits prevailing in the society, i.e., cultural/social/psychological anomalies. Since 'cinema' is one of the most important audio-visual aids to educate people about issues of critical importance, the current investigation aims to study how 'Indian cinema' (Bollywood) plays an essential role in shaping the perception of people towards various psychopathologies. As per the literary review, there has been a considerable change between early and recent cinematography of psychopathology, but there still lies disparity between reel life and real life psychopathology. Therefore, firstly, the paper attempts to provide a baseline understanding of'media depiction of the mental health system' by reviewing existing literature. Secondly, it attempts to classify Hindi movies depicting mental/behavioral anomalies, into 3 broad categories, i.e., Dissociative Disorders, Schizophrenia and other Psychotic Disorders and Disorders usually first diagnosed in Infancy, Childhood or Adolescence. Thirdly, it attempts to draw a parallel between the reel life and real life psychopathological symptoms, causes, treatment approaches taking case examples from various Hindi movies. Lastly, the paper suggests how this disparity between real and reel life depiction of psychopathologies can influence the attitudes of the general population about existing mental health understanding.Keywords

Adolescence is a transitional phase characterized by cheerful enthusiasm and chronic stress. Some individuals drift through the phase swiftly while others undergo an intense emotional turmoil. This is evident, due to the differences in the emotional competence and coping abilities of each individual while witnessing life difficulties. Therefore, the current investigation attempts to study the relationship between Emotional Competence and Resilience amongst adolescents. The sample comprised of 110 school students (55 males & 5 5 females) in the age range of 12-14 years. For this purpose, The 14 item Resilience Scale (RS-14; Wagnild & Young, 1993) and Emotional Competence Inventory, ECI (Wolff, 2005) were administered. Data was analyzed using Descriptive Statistics (Mean & S.D.), Pearson Correlation Coefficient and t-ratio. Significant associations were observed between Emotional Competence and Resilience of adolescents (p>.01). This suggests that increasing emotional competence viz. self awareness, awareness of others emotions, self management and relationship management of adolescents can in turn result in enhancing their ability to deal with stressful life circumstances. However, no significant gender differences were evident in resilience or emotional competence. The results from the current study, therefore, could be utilized heuristically with future studies to develop intervention strategies for enhancing the resilience of adolescents.Keywords

During the past few decades academic performance has emerged as a significant indicator of student credibility. Academic etforts of an individual therefore impact parental-social attitudes towards them to a large extent. This perception not only impacts the psycho-social well-being of the individual but also their ideology towards life. It farther also influences an individual's belief system, self-concept, resilience pattern and perception towards various situations in life. Thus, the current investigation aims to examine whether academic performance plays a role in Happiness of college graduate students. The sample comprised of 100 female graduates in the age range of 18-22 years. For this purpose, Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (Hills & Argyle, 2002) was administered and the last academic score of the students was noted down. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Results depicted significant positive associations between Happiness and Academic Performance (p>.01). The average happiness of students came out to be 4.11 that falls between the ranges of'pretty happy' while the average academic percentage came out to be '73%'. This indicates a linear relationship between the level of happiness and academic performance. This knowledge can be therefore used heuristically to formulate intervention strategies aimed at enhancing happiness amongst college students and further to reduce its dependency on academic endeavors so as to ensure sustainability.Keywords
