Urban environmental management is one of the most pressing issues as the urbanization trend continues globally. Among the challenges faced by urban planners is the need to ensure ongoing basic human services such as the provision of water and sanitation. The under-management of domestic sewage in many urban areas presents a major challenge. Prior to the selection of suitable treatment, the physico-chemical characteristics of domestic sewage have to be studied. From the city Chidambaram of Tamilnadu, domestic sewage samples were collected and analysed. Some of the parameters exceed the permissible limit for discharging in to surface waters prescribed by Central Pollution Control Board of India. A correlation analysis has been carried out among the parameters. The analysis is awfully realistic in wastewater management as well as safe disposal strategies. Keywords

The ocean is one of the biggest renewable energy resources. Energy harnessing from the ocean is an interesting area that is worth researching and full of promise for all energy engineers and researchers. There are a number of methods to follow in energy extraction from the ocean wave and tide. Point absorber is one of potent devices for energy extraction from the ocean wave. It could potentially afford a large amount of power in a relatively small device compared with the other technologies. It extracts the energy from the up-and-down movement of the buoy(s) on the ocean wave. To take full advantage of the device the point absorbers are designed to move freely along the wave. During rough weather condition, the wave exerts high buoyancy force on the buoy(s), forcing the device to face more stress and causing the device failure. To overcome this drawback, floating bodies in a point absorber were replaced by non-buoyant object in a certain research. That result showed that the ratio between the heave responses of the container and the corresponding wave amplitude (heave response ratio) of the device reached up to 2.6 so that the energy capture of this device was considerably raised per unit wave front. The results showed the energy production in the device being appreciably high at the range of 2.3-2.7s wave period and proportional to wave height under 30W and 60W electrical load condition. That experiment was conducted on a steel cylindrical container of diameter 0.4 m and height 0.7 m, used as non-buoyancy object. In this paper, a test was conducted to find the impact of the container geometry on the efficiency of non-buoyancy body type wave energy converter with existing result circumstance. The results obtained in the test on various shapes of the containers such as cylindrical, conical, inverted conical and double side conical, were plotted. The results showed that when using inverted conical shape of container, approximately 9% of output power could be increased compared with the using of existing cylindrical shape of container. Keywords

Objectives: The study on the Relevance of Communication Skills to the Technical Students in the colleges of Engineering and Technology proposes to examine the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing which is rightly termed as LSRW techniques in language learning. It is also proposed to learn the communication skills which could be enriched the knowledge and ability by regular and continuous practice by the students. The significant point is that the learners should acquire listening and speaking skills in direct and indirect methods. The different types of reading strategies would be adopted to improve reading skills. The writing skills would be acquired by using e-materials and laboratory instruments. Methods: For the purpose of the present analysis a class consisting of 50 students was identified. A pre- test was conducted to assess the levels of the students in understanding of vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation and grammatical structures of the students. After the completion of their assignment or work, a test was conducted again to know the result and improvements in the language learning and the process and development of communication skills among the learners. Findings: A pre –test and post –test was conducted and examined the levels of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the learners which led to the process and development of communication and further it paved way for the innovative use of LSRW techniques by them. Applications: The method of teaching communication skills could be used in our country where English is taught as a second language in schools, colleges and universities and the use of innovative methods and its relevance which was also useful to non- native language learners. Keywords

Objectives: This analysis traces the development of select American fiction highlighting the post-war writers particularly related to Norman Mailer. Emphasis is laid on a quest for the archetypal emotions connected with war, power, power through politics and power through sex.
Methods: The analysis of a quest for the archetypes of Norman Mailer’s major fiction was examined especially related to the contemporary American society. This study takes into account Norman Mailer’s background as a writer, his special contribution to the genre of the novels and his place in the history of ideas of his own time in assessing the permanent value of his creative fiction.
Findings: The quest for power through war and sex is examined in The Naked and the Dead. The power through politics in Barbary Shore is also analyzed. The quest for power through sex is studied in TheDeer Parkand inAn American Dream in detail. It also explores Mailer’s techniques of narration, style, characterization and the influences in fixing Mailer’s pre-occupation with the archetypal of emotions of society especially Twentieth Century American society.

Objectives: The study proposes to evaluate the rules, practice, and fluency in speaking and writing in English. Briefly, the learner could improve speaking and writing by means of constant practice and plan to develop language.
Methods: For the analysis of grammar and communication, 60 first year college students of Engineering and technology were identified. A pre- test was organized to know the levels of the students in understanding grammar and the competent skills of speaking and writing. A post- test was conducted to analyze the results and improvements in Grammar and Communicative English.
Findings: A re-test was organized at the levels of grammar in English.
Applications: The method was adopted to use innovative techniques which were also useful to native and non-native learners of language.
