The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is promoting as a low cost medium for information dissemination. The spread is enabling a shift from conventional communication patterns between organizations and individuals. Using ICT, it has become possible to gratify the needs of individual over a large geographic area allowing sharing knowledge and creation and instantaneous dissemination of learning resources. Multimedia objects like video and audio content can significantly augment the learning and communication experience. The proliferation of information content in digital form and availability of e-resources supported with online publishing and resource sharing has encouraged the development of digital libraries which are concerned with the collection, organization of digital content of information resources and delivery to the end users with the help of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and techniques. FOSS has brought many useful tools to scholars, teachers, students and others.

The purpose of this paper is to understand how emerging social network technology services and transforming the structure of web and their potential, impact on library applications. This paper aims to explore the Library 2.0 a term that provides focus to a number of ongoing discussions centered on how libraries should make themselves and their services visible to end users and to one another.
Social networking websites offer a social media platform free of charge for users to log on to their pc's and share exciting content. Informal social networking has existed since the inception web, but sites dedicated to social networking have been expanding exponentially since 2003. The concept of social networking must have been originated or evolved from the concept of sharing information. Current discussions on Social network development represent a significant development in the continuing interaction of technological developments and communications rights. Several issues in social networks are discussed. Libraries and librarians have increasingly been exploring social networking sites for both personal and professional resources.

Automation at ISIBC library started with the use of CDS/ISIS and Libsys. Now it has started GSDL to create digital collections. Digitization is becoming a major consideration for all library and information services. This paper outlines the practical issues and key stages involved in digitizing ISIBC in-house documents, based on work undertaken as part of the digitization of in-house volumes, aims to develop a working model of the hybrid library with a teaching and research context. Having selected the material to be digitized, a feasibility study needs to be undertaken to gauge whether it is actually viable to undertake the digital imaging study.Keywords

Frequent item sets is one of the most investigated fields of data mining. The significant feature is to find new techniques to reduce candidate item sets in order to generate frequent item sets efficiently. This paper introduces an efficient algorithm called Enhanced Candidate Generation for Frequent item set Generation (ECG for FIG) for finding frequent item sets from large databases. The existing algorithm for frequent item set generation scan the original database more than once, use more storage space, take more processing time. The proposed algorithm gives a solution to this by representing the transactions in the database with decimal numbers instead of binary values and strings. The original database is scanned only once and is converted into an equivalent decimal value to reduce the storage space. The subset generation concept is used to generate frequent item sets. Thus the proposed algorithm reduces the scanning time, processing time and the storage space respectively. When compared with the existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm takes very less execution time and memory. When implemented the algorithm using java and tested with WEKA tool, for 400 transactions of twenty five items, ECG for FIG is taking only 800 bytes of memory and 2000000000 ns (two seconds), whereas all the other above mentioned algorithms are taking 20800 bytes of memory and more than two seconds.Keywords

Association rule mining is to find association relationships among large data sets. Mining frequent patterns is an important aspect in association rule mining. Most of the popular associationship rule mining methods are having performance bottleneck for database with different characteristics of data such as dense vs. sparse. In this paper, an efficient algorithm named Temporal FP-Tree (Frequent Pattern-Tree) algorithm and the FP-tree structure is presented to mine frequent patterns, conditional pattern bases and sub- conditional pattern tree recursively .This algorithm is used to mine frequent patterns from temporal database and it needs limited memory space. When dataset becomes dense it can be scaled up to large database by partitioning it, conditionally temporal FP-tree can be constructed dynamically as part of mining.Keywords

A temporal association rule is an association rule that holds during specific time intervals. The problem is to discover complete set of frequent patterns with respect to calendar schema from a set of time stamped transactions. This paper uses the data structure H-struct (Hyper-structure) of Hmine-rev, and incorporated temporal aspects and it is called T-Hmine-rev (Temporal-Hmine-reverse). Hmine-rev is a revised algorithm of H-mine (Hyper-structure mining) which is used for mining frequent patterns and it does not need any adjustment of H-struct links structure like H-mine. Hmine-rev works well on sparse dataset and H-struct is used for fast mining on time-based dataset.Keywords

India has the legacy of Susrutha and Charaka, its ancient medical practioners but the scholarly literature on modern medicine is scanty. The bibliographic work carried out by Dr John Shaw Billings is unmatched. Due to his contribution the Index Medicus (now-MEDLINE) stands as the most important database of biomedical literature. The services of MEDLINE were extended to all countries over the years and India had its services through MEDLARS Centre at NIC. The coverage of Indian medical literature in MEDLINE was not comprehensive and this affects visibility of Indian medical research output. So Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) launched IndMed and MedInd. There are no studies investigating the coverage, the services and the gaps in coverage of IndMed. This study seeks to assess the extent of Indian medical journals covered by the IndMed comparing the list of medical and allied sciences journals covered by Indian Science Abstracts. Suggestions are made as to how the IndMed can improve its coverage.Keywords

This paper explains the addictive use of face book among postgraduate students of Mangalore University, India. In recent years, Social Networking Sites (SNSs) have turned into a major communication medium. The advent of social networking sites especially Face book has improved global connectivity and social interaction. The purpose of this study is to investigate of Facebook addiction among postgraduate women students. The results indicate that 37(25.69%) of respondents use Facebook to play games while 31(21.54%) to share music video, 65(45.13%) of respondents use Facebook to share information with friends, 46(31.94%) to send messages to friends, 101 (70.15%) of students are moderately addicted to using Facebook.Keywords

Study of information use is an important aspect of understanding the end users’ behaviour. This study is aimed at understanding the information use behavior of postgraduate engineering students in an institute of technology. The data for this study was collected through an online survey of 130 postgraduate engineering students belonging to various disciplines. The study reveals the frequency of library visit, the purpose of visiting the library, types of facilities, services and library resources used by the students. Data on strategy for searching documents sources, user’s opinion, and user satisfaction with print and e-resources were also collected. The study shows that most of the students are satisfied with library facilities.Keywords

As constituents of nuclear industry, we all know the significance of the stringent specification to the practical level on the manufacture of nuclear components. More so for the primary system of High Temperature High Pressure Loop (HTHP) situated at Water & Steam Chemistry Division (WSCD). The pressurizing of the system is done by heating through immersion heaters provided in the surge tank. The surge tank, at its rated condition, has steam on the top, above the water level. The surge tank has got a l5 0 NB size nozzle at the bottom dished end. A 1500 # flange is welded to this nozzle. The heater unit of the surge tank is connected to this flange. The heater unit consists of a 150 NB, 1500 # blind flange (tube sheet) with eight number of SS U-type immersion heater pins welded to it. Welding of stainless steel heater pin is a demanding task. The task becomes even greater when the job involves welding of 16 pins with a triangular pitch of 25 mm, such as those for the high temperature & pressure loop. Actually, the tank was manufactured by a private firm. During final leak testing, it was found that there were leaks through the heater pins to sleeve welding in three of the heater pins. They could not rectify the leak. Subsequently, the rectification of the weld was referred to CWD. A novel technique was developed and due care was taken to weld the heater pins. The tank was successfully salvaged and tested hydrostatically at 170 bars and pneumatically at 7 bars. The method of fabrication of heater assembly, problems anticipated, problems encountered and measures taken to solve them are dealt with.

At present critical components like steam turbine spindles and power plant valve components etc. are being handfaced (stellited) using Plasma weld surfacing process involving laborious post weld heat treatment and weld distortion etc. Again, plasma weld surfacing is quite expensive due to deposition of higher build up layer of about 3 to 5 mm of costly consumable (stellite powder). Low pressure Plasma spraying (LPPS) is an economical and productive substitute to conventional weld surfacing process and IS being attempted for various critical applications in developed countries. Since LPPS is a new process and the LPPS system (imported equipment cost approx. Rs. 2 Crores) is not available indigenously, WRI Is developing this facility to establish the LPPS technology for hard facing applications. This paper describes the new hard facing process, its capabilities, advantages, limitations and industrial applications with respect to conventional plasma weld surfacing and spraying process. The impact of knowledge explosion in various fields during the recent years has resulted in creation of vast amount of scientific literature. Food Science &Technology (FST) is also an important subject domain where rapid developments are taking place due to large and diverse research and development activities. Due to these, information storage and retrieval has become very complex and current information retrieval systems (IRs) are constrained in achieving a high precision with good response time. To overcome these constraints as well as provide natural language based effective context based retrieval mechanism, a knowledge engineering framework need to be apphed to represent, share and discover information. Semantic web technologies provides the mechanism for creating knowledge based systems, ontologies and rules for handling the data, ultimately results in inteUigent information retrieval. Ontologies are the backbone of these types of knowledge systems. Ontology is a knowledge represented on the basis of conceptualization that intends a description of object and concept sets and relations between them. The set of objects, and the description of relationship among them, reflected the representational vocabulary with which a knowledge-based program knowledge.References

Accelerating developments in information and communication technologies have enabled almost seamless access to vast amounts of varied information via networks and network of networks such as the Internet. Such developments also pose challenges to libraries to focus on developing more effective ways to meet the information needs of users. Recently, following the expansion of electronic publishing, libraries have shown renewed interest in cooperation with particular reference to obtaining licenses and sharing electronic resources. This paper discusses the implementation of a consortium of the Indian Statistical Institute libraries. Problems faced by the libraries in handling e-journals is also discussed.References
