Abstract

Psidium guajava leaves extracts were investigated for hypoglycemic activity. Aqueous extract and ethanolic extract of leaves were prepared and screened for hypoglycemic activity. Psidium guajava therapy not only produces blood glucose homeostasis but also reversed metabolic and pathologic changes that took place in pancreatic islets.β-cell secretary activity resumed near normal as evidenced electron microscopic studies. In diabetic albino rats, mean percentage reduction in blood glucose level was found to be 18.88 % and 9.19±% for ethanolic and aqueous extracts respectively. The effect was initiated from first day and increase simultaneously up to thirteenth day. The hypoglycemic effect of ethanolic extract was better compared to same dose of aqueous extract. Blood glucose monitoring and electron-microscopic studies proving that Psidium guajava manifests its beneficial activity through β-cell rejuvenation, regeneration and stimulation.

Abstract

In the recent years' there has been a great demand for the plant derived traditional formulations in the developed countries. These formulations are increasingly being required as medicinal products, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. India has one of the 12th mega biodiversities in the world and having great assets of traditional systems of medicines (Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani). One of the major region for the India's inadequate execution is that our products are not backed by rigorous scientific studies to established their safity, efficacy, and standards. For the purpose of develops safety, efficacy, and standards, the importance of standardization of Traditional formulation and crude drugs is now well understood by the consumers as well as the industry. Standardization helps in effective quality control during commercial production of Traditional formulations. During the last few years' emphasis has been laid on chemical methods of standardization, based on physical chemical assay, chromatographic analysis and various spectroscopic techniques. Most of these are qualitative methods though many Traditional formulation and crude plant material have been standardized quantitavely using HPLC, HPTLC, GC and these methods are used as an effective quality control perameters. In such cases chemical marker have been isolated and characterized, in several plant materials spectroscopic method of standardization have also been found to be usefull. However, marker compound based standardization has not been effective since these markers are not biologically active constituents in the most of the cases. All the methods are accounts for a single chemical entity or a group of chemical compounds, but in many plants the activity may be attributed to different type of compounds that act synergistically to show the biological activity. There fore the standardization by chemical methods, although used widely, may not prove to be a complete way of standardization for Traditional formulation and further needs biological standardization.

Abstract

Diabetes is a defect in the ability of the body to convert glucose (sugar) to energy. Glucose is the main source of energy in our body. When food is digested it is metabolized into fats, proteins, or carbohydrates. Glucose is then transferred to the blood and is used by the cells for energy production. To investigate the antidiabetic effect ethanolic extracts of flowers of Moringa oleifera against dexamethasone-induced insulin resistance in wistar albino rats. To study the antidiabetic effect, flowers of Moringa oleifera were collected and authenticated, extracted and investigated for acute toxicity and dexamethasone induced hyperglcemia. The animals treated with EEMOF at a dose of 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg prevented the development of hyperglycemia, hypercholesteremia and hypertriglyceridemia in dexamethasone induced insulin resistance models. Oral administration of Moringa oleifera 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg reduces serum glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterols and LDL concentration and improve the concentration of HDL in dexamethasone administered rats. The lignin Moringa oleifera showed significant anti-diabetic effect in rats after oral administration. The present study demonstrated that Moringa oleifera could be useful in Management of diabetes associated with abnormalities in lipid profiles. Further study need to isolate, identify the active compounds and find out the possible mechanism of actions.

Abstract

The fundamentals οf a successful pharmaceutical fοrmulatiοn depend οn the delivery οf the medicament tο the target site at therapeutically relevant level, with negligible οr minimum discοmfοrt and side effects tο the patient. Low dose maintenance therapy of Piperine HCl has the capability to reduce potential side effects and improved patient compliance which are more common with conventional drug delivery. The developed formulation of Piperine HCl is expected to improve the patient compliance, form better dosage regimen and provide maintenance therapy to patients suffering from inflammation and allergy. These promising results showed the feasibility of delivering Piperine HCl through transdermal matrix patch. The developed transdermal patches ofPiperine HCl may prove to be a better alternative to conventional dosage forms in allergy as revealed by the results
