Since the beginning of this century attempts have been made to construct an instrument to measure the maladjusted behaviour of children at school. But, it was Rutter who made these attempts successful by framing a simplified version off the instrument. Hence, for testing it in the Indian setting and to help our researchers to plan to construct such instruments, the scale was used on three sets of children, the results of the same have proved to be effective.Keywords

With people's participation and involvement as a focus, health education has been rightly declared the first of the eight essential elements of primary health care approach. With the implementation of National Mental Health Programme in different parts of India, it is necessary that mental health education has to prepare and equip itself adequately to play its vital role and meet the challenges of integration of mental health care with primary health care. The present report outlines the various strategies involved in the development of mental health education material for such purposes. Thirty women, aged 16-60 years, presenting with functional somatic symptoms of more than one year duration are compared with 30 normal controls on measures of alexithymia, stressful life events and coping styles. There was no difference between the two groups in alexithymia. FSS group had higher number of total life events, especially in family, social and financial areas. FSS group had more fatalism, praying to God, whereas control group had coping skills like talking to family members, seeking help and emotional support from family members.Keywords

Studies conducted to evaluate the suitability of nineteen unique mango accessions for preparation of tender whole mango pickles revealed that these varieties were characterized by their acidic taste and rich raw mango flavour, which are most prefered for pickle production. The physical and quality parameters viz. fruit shape, weight, raw mango flavour, firmness, titrable acidity, latex flow, pH, dry matter and vitamin C which are important in pickle quality, showed wide variations among different varieties. Based on the sensory evaluation of whole immature green mango pickle prepared by standard fermentation and curing method, the accessions viz., Kashimidi, Isagoor Appe, Malange, Appemidi, Dantimamidi and Jeerige were considered to be most suitable for preparation of tender mango pickles.Keywords

Disasters strike at most unwanted hour and take troll from human life. During Second World War mental health issues of war survivors were noticed, though further this area was not much explored. Only in past decade this area got attention and lot of changes came into this field. Earlier mental health services were medical model based but now paradigm shifted from medical to bio-psycho-social model, intervention became more community based rather institutional and empowering to the survivors. In developing countries still there is lack of management strategy for assessment and providing basic services to the survivors. This study was aimed to assess psychosocial impact on survivors following the landslide and their need for long term rehabilitation. Indepth interview and observation method were used to collect data. Various kind of psychosocial response of survivors was identified such as loss of family members, property, livelihood, numbness, flashback, guilt feeling, hopelessness, elations, etc.Keywords

Investigation on effect of organic fertigation on growth and yield of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum var. grossum Sendt.) was carried out at vegetable unit, Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, during 2016-2017. There were nine treatment combinations including organic manures viz., farm yard manure, vermicompost, bio-stimulants (Humic acid and Sea weed extract) and organic fertigation with Neem cake (two levels viz., 1:20 and 1:40 dilution). Among the nine treatments, the treatment T7 (Humic acid granules @ 5g plant-1 + fertigation with Neem cake 1:20) exhibited the highest yield of 580.18 g plant-1, and it was followed T1 (RDF 250 :150:150 kg NPK ha-1) with 561.5 g plant-1. However, the lowest yield was recorded under T8 (FYM @125 g plant-1 + fertigation with Neem cake 1:40) with 319.6 g plant-1. Among the nine treatments, the per se effect of organic basal supplements derived from the treatment combinations revealed the superiority of humic acid over other organic supplements.Keywords

Amino acid oxidases (AOs) are flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)-dependent dimeric enzymes that stereo specifically catalyse the deamination of an a-amino acid leading to an a-keto acid. Putative Leptospira interrogans recombinant l-amino acid oxidase (Li-rLAO; lacking 20 residues corresponding to the N-terminal signal sequence) was cloned, expressed, purified, and its three-dimensional structure was determined by X-ray crystallography at a resolution of 1.8 Å. The active site could be easily identified by the presence of electron density corresponding to a non-covalently bound FAD in both protomers of the dimeric enzyme. Structural analysis of Li-rLAO revealed that its polypeptide fold is similar to those of the previously determined homologous structures as available in the Protein Data Bank. However, a substrate-binding residue found at the active site of other previously determined homologous structures was not conserved in Li-rLAO, suggesting that its specificity may differ from those of earlier reported structures. Not surprisingly, Li-rLAO showed no activity for most amino acids and amines; it exhibited a low activity only with l-arginine as the substrate.
