Abstract

A series of Mannich bases have been synthesized by treating thiourea, isatin with formaldehyde and different aromatic primary and secondary amines. The structures of compounds were established based on IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral data. The title compounds were screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The compounds S₄, S₆ and S₁₀ with 1-benztriazolyl, 1-diethylamino and 1-dimethylamino substituted derivatives exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebesiella pneumonia, whereas the compounds S₄, S₆ and S₁₀ with 1-benztriazolyl, 1-piperazinyl and 1-dimethylamino substituted derivatives exhibited better antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger.

Abstract

Free radical scavenging potential of leaves of Memecylon edule. Roxb was studied using superoxide radical scavenging effect, hydroxyl radical scavenging effect, lipid peroxide assay, nitric oxide scavenging effect. The content of superoxide radicals was studied by NBT reduction method, hydroxyl radical by Deoxy-ribose degradation method, lipid peroxide level by estimating the thiobarbituric acid releasing substances (TBARS) and the nitric oxide radical by Griess method. The ethanolic and aqueous leaf extracts were used for the study with reference to the ascorbic acid as standard drug. It was found that the aqueous extract showed significant free radical scavenging potential compared to the ethanolic extract. The IC₅₀ for aqueous extract was found to be 502.9μg/ml, 493.78μg/ml, 469.6μg/ml and 227.8 μg/ml for superoxide radical scavenging effect, hydroxyl radical scavenging effect, lipid peroxide assay and nitric oxide scavenging effect respectively. The extracts studied can provide efficient antioxidant protection by complementary mechanisms, such as free radical scavenging and metal ions reduction with the non polar extracts.

Abstract

In the family Staphylinidae under subfamily Paederinae all the 21 species of rove beetles belonging to 10 genera distributed in different districts are recorded for the first time from Mizoram. It is clear that further study of this group from the study area would explore more interesting species.

Abstract

Some novel series of alkyl substituted azaphenothiazine were synthesized by condensation of 2-chloro-1-(10H-azaphenothiazin-10yl) ethanone with various amines. The synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, ¹HNMR and Mass spectroscopy.. The bioavailabilities of the compounds were determined by Lipinski rule of 5 using customized software. All the compounds were screened for antimicrobial and sedative activity.
