The present study is comprised of energy value, component energy, total energy content and net annual energy production of 6 years old monoculture plantation stand of Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex. Benth at Saresar Forest Range situated in the South-East outskirts of Varanasi city. The caloric value and content of different component of sample harvested trees are analyzed. Multiple linear regression equation was developed for each component. The energy content of different component increased with increment in diameter classes. The energy value of different component increased in the order of ischolar_main < bole < phyllode < branch. The rate of total net energy production of the six year old plantation stand was 4.87 × 108 kJ ha-1 yr-1 in 1995−96 to 4.14 × 108 kJ ha-1 yr-1 in 1996−97. On increasing the age of the plantation stand, the variation in component net energy fixation was observed.Keywords

The present investigation was carried out in Upper Mullamari Reservoir situated in Bidar district, Karnataka. Monthly sampling was done in three fish landing centers viz, Kherda, Sharannagar, and Mashala. During the study period, it was observed that the 32 species of finfishes belonging to 26 genera, 14 families and 6 orders were recorded. Among them Cypriniformes represented 17 species followed by Siluriformes (9), Perciformes (3) and order Symbracnhiformes, Osteoglossiformes and Clupiformes contributed one species each. The Simpson's index of diversity (1-Lambda') was highest in Kherda (0.894) followed by Mashala (0.893) and Sharannagar (0.860). This indicated that the greater fish biodiversity in Kherda fish landing centre when compared to other two centers. The abundance of fish species was more in Sharannagar (S= 23, N=423) followed by Kherda (S =28, N= 403), and Mashala (S =27, N= 322).Keywords

Indian metropolitan cities are experiencing an accelerated pace of growth since independence. 42.6 percent of the urban dwellers are residing in 53 million plus cities. This has created opportunities for the urban planners, professionals and technologists to develop and guide the planned development and management. The increasing demand in urban planning and management has required the correct spatial information which is important for the implementation of planning and developmental activities. The present study demonstrates the role of remote sensing and GIS in generating geo-database for the city analysis at micro level. Kanpur city is selected as study area, which is one of the largest urban agglomerations of Uttar Pradesh million cities. High resolution of Cartosat-1 (PAN image), LISS-IV (MX) satellite, Census Data, Toposheets at scale of 1:50,000, Municipal Corporation map of Kanpur city 2005-06 and Kanpur City Development Plan, 2006 and online Google Earth have been used for meaningful analysis.Keywords

Present study attempt to identify and mapping of slums using the Carosat-1(PAN image) and LISS-IV (MX) satellite images. The assessment of slum pockets in GIS environment supported by ground verification. The slums are identified on the basis of visual interpretation and is captured manually using on-screen digitization method. Finally, the database is created mapped with the help of Arc GIS 9.3. The area which are highly congested, small sized dwelling units with plastic/tin/mud roof usually square or rectangle temporary structure mostly located in marginal areas such as along line, drainage network, inner core areas and near industrial set-up are identified as slums. Study demonstrates the capability of high resolution satellite data to detect and delineate the slums in Kanpur city.Keywords

Field experiment was conducted at the Research Farm, Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa. Pest activity started from 30th standard week and continued upto 41st standard week, meanwhile it reached peak twice in 34th and 37th standard week. Thereafter, its population declined and finally no population was recorded. Correlation and multiple regression between weather parameters and the population of male yellow stem borer moth revealed that maximum temperature (°C), minimum temperature (°C), relative humidity (%) at 7 hr, relative humidity (%) at 14 hrs, rainfall (mm) and evaporation (mm) were positively correlated to the tune of 0.273, 0.453, 0.075, 0.478, 0.339 and 0.122, respectively with the population of male moth of yellow stem borer, whereas, sunshine (hr) was negatively correlated (-0.453) to that. Weather parameters were found to contribute about 34.60 per cent male moth population fluctuation of Scirpophaga incertulas when acted together. Further, the IPM package reduced the infestation (4.20, 8.82, 9.31% DH and 9.41% WEH) caused by rice yellow stem borer in respect to untreated control (4.88, 23.75, 27.68 % DH and 22.72 % WEH) at 15, 30, 50 and 90DAT. Moreover, IPM package gave higher yield (50.25 q/ha) as compared to the control (41.80 q/ha). It was also observed that net profit over the control was Rs. 11,825 with cost benefit ratio 1:2.27 with IPM package in both the years of study.Keywords

Wheat dwarf India virus (WDIV) is the first mastrevirus reported to have subgenomic molecules called satellites. To establish association of the satellites with WDIV across a variety of ecoclimatic conditions, a countrywide survey was carried out. WDIV and its associated satellites (alphasatellite and betasatellite) were identified in plant samples collected from each of the 14 field locations surveyed in the study. Though there were location- and variety-related differences in disease scale, most of the infected wheat cultivars in fields across the country carried both the satellites. The wide occurrence of WDIV disease complex in India suggests the need to assess how the spread of WDIV and its satellites can be limited in wheat fields.Keywords

The structure of the ECG signal is time varying which is the supreme common source used for the purpose of diagnosis & observation and analysis of various types of diseases related to the heart in the patient. ECG recording is the process done by placing the electrodes in the specified positions at body of humans. During the process of recording, a noise distracted signal is applied to ECG signal and the ECG signal is also full of artifacts which always degrades the quality of it and establishes threats in the recording the absolute ECG signal. The artifacts mostly noticed are Power line Interference, Baseline Wander and muscle tremors. Therefore, for accuracy in the characteristics points of ECG, an ECG having good quality is essential. Generally, we notice that these kinds of noises are very common in the process and detection is needed. We found that FIR-IIR filter is giving suitability to increase the quality of it. So, here we are presenting an implementation of the FIR-IIR filter for reduction of artifacts using Xilinx EDA tool and the Power analysis is being done in X-Power analyzer by creating VHDL code and running it into Model Sim 3.1.

Present study highlights the pattern of state government expenditure on economic sector in Haryana (1990-91 to 2009-10). Economic sector comprises the sub-sectors like the agriculture and allied services, irrigation and Flood Control, rural development, energy, transport and communications, industry and minerals, science, technology and environment and general economic services as essential for the economic development of the state. The government plays a very significant role in the development of the economic sector as the most economic sector services fall in the category, which depends on the funds provided through the centrally sponsored schemes. The paper examines the economic sector expenditure of Haryana and its components. The study reveals that through the time share of economic sector expenditure decreases as the social infrastructure demand increases with the pace of time to satisfy the need of the people. In the economic sector, the share of revenue expenditure increases whereas the capital expenditure decreases in Haryana. The share of economic sector to development sector expenditure decreases whereas the plan economic sector expenditure increases from 1990-91 to 2009-10. Energy has captured major share in the economic sector expenditure. With the limited resource allocations of resources from the central government Haryana was incurred with more financial burden. For the further increase in the economic expenditure, it may be suggested that the resources from the central government should be allocated according to the needs of the state. All other sub-sector should also get equal importance apart from the energy as they are the wheels on which the development of the state can drive.Keywords

The calcium oxide crystal possesses well developed fcc structure and is divalent in nature. Oxides and silicates make up the bulk of the Earth's mantle and crust, and thus it is important to predict their behavior for the study of seismic and volcanic activities. The second order elastic constants (SOECs) were computed using Coulomb and Born-Mayer potential in the temperature range 100-1000 K. The ultrasonic velocities were calculated using these values of second order elastic constants and density ρ. In this study temperature dependent velocities in calcium oxide have been calculated along <100>, <110> and <111> crystallographic directions and the results are presented graphically and discussed in depth.Keywords

The acoustic wave velocities have been calculated using the values of second order elastic constants (SOECs) and density ρ. In this study first the second order elastic constants for some oxides CdO, CoO and FeO which possess face centered cubic crystal structure are computed and then acoustic wave velocities has been obtained along different crystallographic directions starting from 100K to an elevated temperature 1000K. The results thus obtained are presented graphically, compared and discussed. The relations presented can be applied to all materials likely to exist in the earth's mantle and crust with rock-salt structure and therefore provide a useful means of considering the properties of rock-forming compounds.Keywords

The field experiment was conducted at Horticulture Research Farm of Choudhary Charan Singh University campus, Meerut U.P. during 2011-12. The nine treatments A1 (Azotobacter by ischolar_main treatment 0.20g/15 plants), A2 (Azotobacter by soil treatment 0.40g/plot), G1 (Gibberellic acid 100 ppm spray at 30 DAT), G2 (Gibberellic acid 150 ppm spray at 30 DAT), A1G1 (Azotobacter by ischolar_main treatment 0.20g/15 plants and gibberellic acid 100 ppm spray at 30 DAT), A1G2 (Azotobacter by ischolar_main treatment 0.20g/15 plants and gibberellic acid 150 ppm spray at 30 DAT), A2G1(Azotobacter by soil treatment 0.40g/plot and gibberellic acid 100 ppm spray at 30 DAT ), A2G2 (Azotobacter by soil treatment 0.40g/plot and gibberellic acid 150 ppm spray at 30 DAT) and A0G0 (No Azotobacter and no gibbrellic acid) were evaluated in Randomized Block Design with three replications. The experimental finding revealed that the treatment A2G2 (Soil treatment with Azotobacter + spray of GA3@ 150 ppm) gave the maximum plant height, maximum number of primary branches per plant, maximum number of secondary branches per plant, maximum plant spread, minimum number of days taken for flower bud appearance, maximum number of flowers per plant, maximum flower diameter, maximum fresh weight of flowers per plant and maximum yield of flower in comparison to individual application of GA3 and Azotobacter.

The main concept of design and development of garlic planter is fabrication, the drilling planter and its metering device are simple in their structure and easy to manufacture. This study followed research after the 3 types of garlic planter was fabricated in 2001 which included; 1) inclined metering plate garlic planter, 2) vertical metering plate garlic planter and 3) spring plate garlic planter. In this study, 2 model were constructed which included; 1) The vertical metering plate with triangular grooves and 2) The bucket type garlic planter. The uniformity of metering system test for the 2 models, the bucket type garlic planter presented the most impressive results. The percentage of broken was very low, about 0.25 per cent. The new prototype garlic planter had 10 rows and was attached to 5 HP power tiller. The garlic planter was tested under actual field conditions at meeting district, Allahabad. The result indicated that the optimum width of garlic planter was 0.9 meter or 9 rows. The suitable soil condition was dry soil. Farmer should apply water after planting. The maximum forward speed was 3 km/hr and wheel skid was high about 24.34 per cent. The average depth and width of planting was 2.65 cm. and 4.68 cm. Time for turning at head land was 39 seconds. The field capacity was 0.32 ha/hr and there were three operators. Hence, the capacity of planter was 0.84 ha./man/day.Keywords

The Calcium oxide crystal possesses well developed structure of the NaCl-type and is divalent in nature. Oxides and silicates make up the bulk of the Earth's mantle and crust, and thus it is important to predict their behaviour. The elastic energy density for a deformed crystal can be expanded as a power series of strains using Taylor's series expansion. One can get this expansion starting from nearest neighbour distance and hardness parameter utilizing Coulomb and Born-Mayer potentials for face centred cubic crystal symmetry. The coefficients of the quadratic, cubic and quartic terms are known as the second, third and fourth order elastic constants (SOECs, TOECs and FOECs) respectively. When the values of second and third order elastic constants and density for any material at a particular temperature are known; one may get ultrasonic velocities for longitudinal and shear waves in different crystallographic directions which give important information about its anharmonic properties.The theory obtained is applied to get the higher order elastic constants for Calcium oxide crystal at different higher temperatures and the results obtained are presented graphically and discussed widely.
- Ultraviolet A (UV-A) Radiation-Induced Damage in the Skin and Vital Organs of Albino Rat: An Indirect Correlation with Melatonin

Ultraviolet radiation is causative of generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body that significantly affects normal physiology and disturbs homeostasis. In the present study we investigated the effect of UV-A radiation exposure on the first line of defence system such as skin and vital organs such as liver, kidney and spleen of Rattus norvegicus. Adult female rats were exposed to UV-A radiation for seven days at a dose of 6.36 J/cm2 and the changes in the skin histoarchitecture, oxidative load of spleen, liver and kidney along with cellular ROS levels of splenocyte determined using DCFDA staining were recorded. UV-A exposure severely damaged the histoarchitecture of skin and reduced proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression. The lipid peroxidation (MDA) level in spleen, liver and kidney were increased to significant levels while the activities of the enzymatic antioxidants, SOD and catalase were significantly decreased. Significant decrease of glucose content and increase of LDH of both spleen and liver were found. Cellular damage of splenocyte was observed as evidenced by increase in percentage of intense DCFDA-stained cells in UV-A treated rats. Thus, our results clearly demonstrate that UV-A radiation exposure may have detrimental effects on the antioxidant defence system of the body, including melatonin, leading to disruption of physiology by affecting vital organs.Keywords

Experimental study was conducted to evaluate the qualitative attributes of mixed juice using carrot and orange prepared with the composition of 95:05, 90:10 and 85:15 and the samples were stored at refrigeration temperature (5°C), B.O.D. (25°C) and room temperature (35°C) for 0, 15, 30 and 45 days. The physico-chemical qualities (TSS, pH and vitamin C), microbial growth and sensory quality (colour, taste, flavour, texture and overall acceptability) were evaluated. The TSS increased with increase in storage period. The TSS value scored maximum as 13.7, 13.4 and 13.1 for BOD condition after 45 days of storage period. The pH values of the sample composition 95:05, 90:10, and 85:15 after 45 days of storage were observed as 5.17, 5.14 and 5.10 at room temperature and 5.12, 5.05 and 5.01 at B.O.D. incubator condition, respectively. It was observed that pH of all the samples were decreased at 15, 30, and 45 days of storage. Decrease in the vitamin C was observed with increase in the level of storage period of carrot and orange composition in the samples. The ascorbic acid values of the samples composition 95:5, 90:10 and 85:15 after 45 days of storage were observed as 26.65, 30.61 and 34.91 mg/100ml at room temperature condition and the ascorbic acid values of the samples composition 95:5, 90:10 and 85:15 after 45 days of storage were observed as 24.33, 27.52 and 30.24 mg/100ml at B.O.D. incubator condition, respectively.The microbial growth increases with increase in storage period. The beverage samples stored at refrigeration condition was found superior over other storage condition followed by BOD incubator and room temperature conditions. Sensory panel recommended best sample containing 85:15 ratios of carrot and orange juice as colour, taste, flavour and texture points of view with the score of overall acceptability (7.7).Keywords

Thick film technology is mostly employed at lower frequency circuits such as hybrid micro circuits due to the associated losses of the paste. The characterisation and implementation of the conductive paste at higher frequencies is important so as to employ this technique at higher frequencies. Also the role of ceramic substrate due to higher dielectric losses needs detailed measurement to deduce the useful range of this technique with the selected paste. In this article simple transmission line using the thick film technology is fabricated, characterised and result of the thick and thin film technologies are compared. Subsequently RF circuits such as filter are fabricated using both thick and thin film fabrication technology and comparative analysis carried out. The line losses of 0.01 dB/cm up till 5 GHz is achieved using the standard gold paste. This article details the fabrication process, implementation methodology, design aspects, simulation and comparative analysis of the microstrip circuits such as transmission line and band pass filter.Keywords

To assess the impact of artificial leaf defoliation of Populus deltoides on its different growth parameters, a study was conducted on G-48 clone under field condition and four defoliation treatments, i.e. 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, were done in addition to control. Defoliation pattern was simulated with insect defoliator Clostera spp. feeding and the experiment was conducted from July to December. Significant variation was observed in tree height and DBH growth loss in all the treatments with respect to control, and 24.16–66.03% volume increment loss was observed under 25–100% leaf defoliation respectivelyKeywords

Mining is one of the most hazardous and hostile occupations in the world. Even though a lot of hazards are associated with this industry, mining of both fuel and mineral based deposit from earth is necessary for the economic growth of the nation, maintaining a low cost of production by avoiding import and gaining independence from other mineral rich and technologically advanced nation for its day to day requirements of minerals. But, the industry must keep in mind that it should adopt the policy of safety first than production in the context of a large number of dangers which are associated with mining activity and must take necessary action to avoid such unwanted events from happening. Though safety standards in current mining industry scenario have improved by providing training sessions to miners regarding safe and better work practices and using better machines for stabilization of mining structure and extraction. But still disaster tends to happen in mines worldwide and rescue of miners and mining machinery is the first task that is performed by industry by sending rescue team without prior knowledge about underground mine environmental condition since post-disaster installed mine environment monitoring is either damaged or destroyed. Subsequently, sending mine rescuers will be dangerous and may cause even bigger disaster from happening which is evident in past. Therefore, the mining industry is now relying upon robotics for mine disaster rescue management to assist human rescuers and avoid further exposure to dangerous post-disaster underground mine environment. This paper gives an overview of applicability of robotics in mine disaster rescue management.Keywords
