Abstract

The study was conducted by KVK, Ferozepur in different six blocks during 2015-16. The soil of district was light to medium in texture and soil pH varied from neutral to slightly saline in nature. Total hundred front line demonstrations (FLDs) were conducted on summer moong variety SML 668 (Vigna radiate L.). The demonstrations plots had more grain yield as compared to the control plots. Almost 18 per cent increase was recorded in the demonstration yield over farmer’s practice. Even so in blocks of the district, higher grain yield was obtained in Ghal Khurd block (10.32 q/ha) followed by Zira block (9.35q/ha), Ferozepur block (8.98 q/ha), Makhu block (8.76 q/ha), Mamdot block (7.98 q/ha). Less grain yield was obtained in Guru Har Sahai Block (7.44 q/ha). In Ghal Khurd block where soil was medium in texture and moong crop was sown in advance which resulted highest yield as compared to remaining blocks. While on the contrary, gap between technology and extension was founded in all blocks. The demonstrations plots noticed higher net return as compared to check plot. Whereas benefit cost ratio (B: C ratio) was also recorded more in demonstrations as compared to farmer’s practices. By growing summer moong crop with improved technologies in between other crops can help to achieve doubling farm income goal.

Abstract

India is the world’s largest milk producer and its total milk production during 2016-17 is 165.4 million tonnes (Basic Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Statistics 2017). Out of this, total production; 81.3 million tonnes come from buffaloes, 78.1 million tonnes from cows and 5.7 million tonnes from Goats. Many domestic and foreign dairy processing companies are showing interest in the dairy industry of the country now a days and focus on the hygienic milk production is on the rise. Some companies also give credit in the form of bonus or incentives to the milk producers on the basis of milk quality. To make dairy farming more profitable and sustainable, the farmers’ awareness about clean milk production should increase so that they can produce good quality milk and also prevent diseases such as mastitis which cause huge economic losses.

Abstract

Vitamin D deficiency is a worldwide widespread health problem, with a range of prevalence in between 70%–100% in the general population. The concern for vitamin D estimation has increased tremendously in India despite the fact of plentiful sun. As per the report of International Osteoporosis Foundation, in North India, 96% of neonates, 91% of healthy school girls, 78% of healthy hospital staff, and 84% of pregnant women were found to have hypo-vitaminosis D. On the other hand, prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in southern India was estimated to be 40% among males and 70% among females. There was also a significant rural urban variation in the vitamin D deficiency status that was attributed to the diversity of occupation which the people were involved in.

Abstract

According to 19^th livestock census, Punjab has a buffalo, cow and goat population of about 51.6 lac, 24.3 lac and 3.2 lac, respectively and these livestock produces milk in the tune of 1 crore 12 lac tonnes annually. Livestock farming had always played its significant role in the diversification of agriculture in the state. Livestock practices keeps changing with time. Earlier times, grazing practice used to be one of the major activities of dairy farming but now a days, stall feeding is more popular. Therefore, it is important these days to enhance knowledge about the scientific care and management of animals and follow the principle of “Prevention is better than cure”. This can actually decrease our unplanned expenses and so, increase profitability.
