The Guest Editorial by Lakhotia addresses an important issue of the sinking quality of science papers. The journal publication model involves three stakeholders - scientists who provide papers, agencies that publish/circulate papers, and institutions that subscribe to the endproduct. Journal production is a profitable venture as it reveals invaluable inventions and discoveries to society. Elsevier, for example, is one of the largest publishers in the world and it owns prestigious periodicals such as Lancet and Cell. It publishes nearly 380,000 articles via 2500 journals each year. In 2014 alone, the revenue of Elsevier reached USD 2.8 billion (www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/93138f-3e-87d6-11e5-90de-f44762bf9896).- Enhancing Ethical Sensitivity in Indian Science

The recent Guest Editorial in Current Science titled 'Ethics and Indian science' has opened up a complex moral aspect daunting the scientific community. It highlights the lack of ethical guidelines in universities and science institutions, which is a serious concern. Half a century ago, scientists did not come across such grave concerns in science. But in recent decades, cases involving scientific misconduct have increased. Scientists receive more research grants now compared to a few decades ago, because Government agencies and business corporations expect rapid inventions in the essential health, food and energy sectors to meet the increasing developmental needs.- Rigorous Enforcement of Policy Crucial to Enhance Scientific Integrity

The issues surrounding commitments and responsibilities of scientists have been debated since the 1960s (ref. 1). Scientists have an obligation to resolve humanity's concerns besides promoting public awareness on how science acts as an integral part of the contemporary society.References

The burden of various diseases has been draining India’s economy in recent decades since the country harbours over 1.3 billion people. Diabetes is a lifestyle-related non-communicable disease, and it has become an epidemic in India affecting over 150 million people. The Government of India spends USD 10 billion per year to confront diabetes, but is unable to contain the outburst. This note analyses the existing facts on diabetes control measures adopted by the Government. It also provides future implementation strategies to be coordinated by various State and Central Government agencies in cooperation with private healthcare firms and non-government organizations to control the upsurge of diabetes in the near future.References
