Albitite and albitised banded gneissic country rock from the Ladera-Sakhun area, situated about 80km southwest of Jaipur, show several evidences for soda metasomatism. Megascopic evidences include reddening of outcrops due to aventurisation, gradational contacts between albitite and gneisses, development of metasomatic minerals, dequartzification, epidotization and cataclasitisation. Microscopic evidences include relict microcline in the newly formed albite grain, poor and discontinuous development of twin lamellae in albite giving step-like appearance, ubiquitous sweeping extinction in albite due to cataclasitisation, occasional mortar texture in albitite, tapering of twin lamellae within the grain, twin lamellae forming in chequered fashion, development of aventurine albite containing dusty Fe-oxide inclusions, development of albite along twin/cfeavage plane of microcline, formation of new albite in plagioclase, destruction of sericite in plagioclase of albitised granite, formation of myrmekite of intergranular, intragranular and rim types, development of epidote corona around clinopyroxene in pyroxenite, partial to complete dequartzification and filling up of voids by calcite. Petrochemical evidences of increased characteristic values of Na2O from 3.17 to 7.00 wt%, K2O and Si2O from -0.03 to -6.00 wt% and -0.76 to -10.55 wt% in the unalbitised to albitised rocks respectively, provide further support for soda metasomatism. Albitisation at Ladera-Sakhun area extends over a considerable distance into Haryana in the NE and beyond Tal in the SW, attesting to its regional significance and its potential for mineralisation.Keywords

A partly concealed radioactive alibitized pegmatoid/quartz albitite body (1200 m x 0.5 to 20 m) containing 0.010 to 0.190% U3O8 and 0.007 to 0.076% ThO2 and about 20 brick red coloured albitite lenses varying in dimension from 13 m x 7 m to 220 m x 12-30 m and containing 0.022 to 3.50% U3O8 and 2 are described at Banjaron Ki Dhani, new Maonda in north Rajasthan. Davidite, brannerite, rutile, anatase, zircon, monazite and traces of uraninite have been identified in the albitites. A metasomatic origin for the albitites is suggested. The distribution of albitites along NE-SW to NW-SE and E-W trending weak structural planes and the coincidence of 'Albitite Line' with Kaliguman lineament, demonstrates the tectonic control of albitization.Keywords

Uranium mineralisation of segregated type consisting mostly of uraninite and less commonly of brannerite has been noted in the pink quartzo-feldspathic or aplitic emplacements along shear zones in Rohil-Ghateshwar-Khandela-Diara and Saladipura area in Sikar district of Rajasthan. Ilmenite, molybdenite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pyrite are noted along with uraninite.
Mineralisation is controlled by structure and generally occurs along linear shears that are parallel to the main tectonic lineament. In Ghateshwar area, the mineralised quartzo-feldspathic emplacements have undergone refolding along with the rest of the formations. Uranium mineralisation is near to the main tectonic lineament that passes through the axis of the Ajabgarh synclinorium. Integrated radiometric and hydrogeochemical surveys have indicated continuity of the uranium bearing quartzo-feldspatbic emplacements along a 16 km belt.
The Salwari fluorite occurrence 10 km NE of Khandela is a post feldspathic emplacement and probably formed during the final phases of mineralisation.

A field trial was carried out at NDUAT Faizabad to find out the effect of nitrogen and sulphur nutrition on growth and yield attributing characters of maize (Zea mays L.) genotypes under eastern plain zone of U.P. Nitrogen plays a vital role for the activities of every living cell. Adequate supply of N is associated with dark green colour and vigorous growth. Sulphur is most limiting factor for synthesis of sulphur bearing amino acids viz., cystine, cystein and methionine and lipids. Three nitrogen level and two genotype were kept in main plot while four sulphur levels were allocated into sub plots under Split Plot Design and replicated thrice. Highest net returns of rupees 29134, 28191 and 30420 per hectare and B: C ratio of 2.07, 2.03 and 2.14 were earned with the application of 120 kg ha-1 N by Deccan- 103 genotype and nourishment of 20 kg ha-1 sulphur, respectively.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted at Crop Research Station, Masodha under Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad, (U.P.) during Kharif season 2008-2009 to evaluate the productivity and quality of aromatic/basmati rice variety under different nutrient parameters which included the application of nutrients through only chemical fertilizer, only organic source and combination of organic manure and fertilizer, besides the foliar spray of a plant growth retardant (Cycocel) in combination with inorganic fertilizer to reduce plant height. An improved basmati variety vasumathi, a traditional culture, tarori basmati and local non-basmati aromatic rice, Kalanamak were included as a test variety. A significant response of different nutrient resources @ 100:50:50 kg NPK ha-1 on rice production and their quality was observed. Use of inorganic fertilizer with cycocel produced maximum grain (3.77 t ha-1) and straw (5.93 t ha-1) yield followed by inorganic fertilizer alone treatment which recorded 3.68 grain and 5.32 straw yield t ha-1. Organic sources applied alone produced minimum grain (3.31 t ha-1) and straw (4.94 t ha-1) whereas integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizer treatment significantly improved grain (3.60 t ha-1) and straw (5.03 t ha-1) over organic treatment alone. Among varieties, the improved basmati (Vasumathi) recorded higher grain (3.76 t ha-1) and straw (4.62 t ha-1) yield than traditional tarori basmati which recorded 2.30 t grain/ha and 4.04 t straw/ha. Whereas maximum grain (4.01 t ha-1) and straw (5.18 t ha-1) yield was produced by non-basmati aromatic variety Kalanamak. The influence of nutrients sources on grain quality was significant for kernel dimensions, amylase content and gell consistency. Organic sources in general, were superior to fertilizers in improving grain and the quality parameters and recorded maximum hilling (78.6%), millimg (67.79%), KL (6.74mm), KB (1.84mm), amylase content 26 per cent and gell consistency (61.6 mm). Among varieties, improved basmati (Vasumathi) recorded maximum hilling (79.5%) and milling (68.6%) fallowed by Kalanamak which recorded 78.2 per cent hulling and 67.6 per cent milling. The minimum grain quality parameters were recorded by traditional tarori basmati grown in Inceptisol of Eastern U.P.Keywords
