The aim of this work is to reduce the size of chromium nitrate particles to the order of nano (10-9m) size using the Sol-Gel method, analyze the surface topography of the A390 aluminium specimens by means of SEM, XRD and AFM analysis after nanocoating them using PVD process. Pin on disc apparatus is used to study the sliding wear and friction behaviour of nanocoated and uncoated specimens for bearing application. And finally Response Surface Method (RSM) is used to optimise the process. Keywords
