Abstract

Homemade remedies and traditional herbal products used as cosmetics have never lost its value. In one form or the other they keep on appearing and appealing. There are many valuable advantages of these products which enable them to find their place in today's rapid growing market. Economical prospective of these herbal cosmetic has an eye catching tendencies.

Abstract

India, with its great biodiversity about 15% out of the 20,000 medicinal plants of the world, has a tremendous potential and advantage in the emerging field of herbal medicines. Medicinal plants are the main sources of chemical substances with potential therapeutic effects. A lot of compounds were characterized from plants which are now using in the treatment of many diseases. The use of medicinal plants for the treatment of many diseases is associated with folk medicine from different parts of the world. Naturally occurring compounds from plants, fungi and microbes are still used in pharmaceutical preparations in pure or extracted forms about three hundred species are used by 7800 medicinal drug manufacturing units in India which consume about 2000 tons of herbs annually. There are estimated to be more than 717,319 registered practitioners of ayurveda, siddha, unani and homeopathy in India and in recent years, the growing demand for herbal products has led to the extinction of many important herbs because the drugs have no or very less side effect. Trichosanthes tricuspidata is a little-exploited plant with immense medicinal potential. Considering its importance, more research is necessitated to explore the potential of this plant.

Abstract

Obesity (with body mass index > 30 kg/m²) is an important pathological factor which influences the development of hyperandrogenism in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Obese women, particularly those with central obesity, have more difficulty to conceive per cycle. Obese women suffer with irregular menstrual cycle which affect the body hormonal system. Thus obesity affect ovulation, endometrial growth and nidation There fore weight loss have several beneficial effects upon clinical, endocrinological and metabolic features of obese women presenting with PCOS. In fact, weight loss is associated with a significant improvement in menses abnormalities, ovulation and fertility rates, and with a reduction of hyperandrogenism, hyperinsulinaemia, and altered gonadotrophin pulsatile secretion. The central role of improved insulin concentrations and insulin-resistant state is emphasized by the fact that similar effects can be achieved by both short- and long-term administration of metformin, an insulin lowering drug which ameliorates peripheral insulin action in non-diabetic insulin resistant states. We therefore recommend weight loss as a first-line therapeutic option in all women with obesity and Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). And it may be chive by both pharmacological (drug used to suppress apatite) and non pharmacological (life style modification, diet etc.) treatment.

Abstract

Cubosomes are the biocompatible novel approach for the drug delivery system. The controlled release application of these nanoparticles is of a great significance in cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical fields. Low cost of the raw materials, versalality and the potential for controlled release through functionalization make them an attractive vehicle for several in vivo drug delivery routes. Precursor forms of cubosomes are among the modification possible to overcome its difficulty in loading of drugs.

Abstract

Ever since introduction of medicinal mushrooms, it has helped humans in curing many diseases. They contain many active ingredients that act actively against some diseases including cancer. But about 50 species are poisonous out of total 700 edible species. Irrespective of their medicinal value some mushrooms can cause side effects such as dermatitis and other allergic reactions. This suggests that one should be very cautious while consuming these mushrooms. In this review, we have tried to summarize a number of medicinal mushrooms with their medicinal uses. Moreover, the worldwide market, economic aspects and safety criteria was also taken into consideration.

Diabetes and herbs have got a long relation from the past. Earlier the treatment of this silent killer was done using the herbal preparations as well as the raw herbs. With the advancement of technology and introduction of allopathic formulation, herbal products have lost their significance. But in the last decade biological, economical, nutraceutical and therapeutic benefits of herbal preparations have attracted the world pharmaceutical market in the treatment of diseases like diabetes.

Abstract

Thimerosal is among one of the widely used preservative in the field of pharmaceutical, in the developing countries. The controversial prospect of this pharmaceutical excipent limits its use in the vaccines as preservative. Its bateriostatic and fungistatic properties is among its advantage over other recommended preservatives. However, its neurodegenerative and hypersensitive adverse properties has limited this preservative in ophthalmic use only along with controversies.
