Background/Objectives: The mobile phone plays an important role in communication. However, mobile phone always facing the difficulty of battery charging while travelling from one place to another place. This paper presents the design and implementation of a portable battery charger by using multi direction wind turbine. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A prototype of battery charger is developed for application with mobile phones as an example to address the design considerations, plus demonstrates the performance of the charger adapted to a practical application system. Findings: This mobile charger is better than normal mobile charging as it uses wind power as a renewable energy source. Applications/Improvements: By further suitable modifications, in future work, charging of laptop and other high power gadgets will be accomplished. Keywords

Background/Objectives: The term “logistics services and e-commerce” have been in use for more than 10 years, but has recently become an important subject of analysis and empirical investigation. It is common in Malaysia in logistics services like courier services companies which they call customers for whom buy their services and for e-commerce enterprises that they call courier services companies as a business partner or Courier Partner Logistics (CPL) where CPL provided any logistics services for their business operations. This paper presents and reviews the milestone and development of logistics operations in courier services companies and e-commerce enterprises in Malaysia. This paper also will show the relationship between both of them which are logistics/courier services companies and e-commerce enterprises. Methods/Analysis: We use a qualitative and quantitative method such as interview and observation (qualitative) to verify of questionnaires (quantitative) this study by experts in the field of logistics especially in courier firms and e-commerce enterprises. Findings: In reviewing literature we find that online users in Malaysia are greater than Singapore, but for Malaysia’s e-commerce of retail only 0.2% compared than Singapore 1.0%. It means entrepreneurs in Malaysia still not aware in utilization and advantages of Internet or ICT in their business. In Asian countries, most of among them are still in initial stage to the development of e-business, especially Malaysia, but for e-commerce level companies Malaysia, they also try to show good performances and advanced with assistance and support by Malaysia government such as Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and efficiency of logistics by courier companies within product delivery service provider, so this is one way to e-commerce enterprises develop business towards to e-business level. Applications: In conclusion, it could help to acknowledge the current levels management and ability as well as the role of logistics/courier services and e-commerce enterprises’ performances. Thus, it could guide both of them to renew their perceptions of the effects of the managing knowledge operations and services to better develop and also enhance their operational practices. So, both of them could survive their business to compete with others competitors. In addition, the significance of this study and benefit for future research is clearly known about the relationship strength between them (relationship among the two industries namely courier services companies and e-commerce enterprises’ performances). Keywords

Background/Objectives: Eddy current testing is one of the most widely Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods which utilized in the industry especially in oil and gas, aircraft, nuclear and coating industries. Experimental studies of eddy current testing have emerged as an important approach alongside numerical. This paper is to design, fabricate and investigate the maximum eddy current testing that can detect subsurface defect in the carbon steel S45C block. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The material of the artificial defect block is carbon steel (S45C) with dimension of 180mm (length) × 25mm (width) × 60mm (height). There are eight artificial defects which located 20mm parallel to the length of the block with 0.5mm diameter. The distance defect is located in between 0.5mm to 4.00mm from the surface of the artificial defect block. Weld probe with diameter size of 16mm and 9mm are used to perform the inspection. Findings: Experiments showed that the weld probe with diameter 16mm able to detect subsurface defect up to 4.0mm and 2.0mm for 9mm diameter weld probe. The optimum of eddy current testing frequency for carbon steel S45C is depending on the defect distance from the material surface. Applications/Improvements: The results prove that the maximum depth of the subsurface can be measured by using eddy current testing method, which is depending on the frequency of the exciting coil weld probe. Keywords

Background/Objectives: Running out of battery on phones, laptops and iPads while in public places is a problem that we are trying to avoid. Power consumption of smartphone and other mobile electronics applications is one of the major concerns due to the limited battery capacity. In public places, the grid power supply socket is difficult to find. This paper describes the development of the electric source vending machine for public used. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Development of this machine involves the structural mechanical design and electronic system. The photo sensor is used to detect the Light-Emitting Diode (LED) blinking from the digital electric meter to count the total power use by the different loads. Standard coin acceptor used to determine whether coins are genuine or counterfeit. Adruino microcontroller serves as the main system that controls and process the entire machine system. Findings: The systems are able produce stable 240 V AC and 5 V DC output voltage. Mobile electronic devices can use the electric source from the machine by connecting the adapter or Universal Serial Bus (USB) wire into the ports in the vending machine. Applications/Improvements: An electric source vending machine was developed. It can it can provide an electric source system in public places. This system provides a stable source of electrical 240 V AC and 5 V DC for charging various mobile electronic devices. Keywords
