The present paper reports the incorporation of an anionic water soluble dye congo red (CR) in the cationic octadecylamine (ODA) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. ATR-FTIR spectroscopy confirms the presence of CR molecules in the adsorbed LB films. The adsorption kinetics of the CR molecules onto ODA LB films have been demonstrated by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. Comparison of fitted curve of the reaction kinetics to that of the observed one reveals that the reaction kinetics between CR and ODA LB films is of first order kinetic process. Keywords

In the present communication we report the formation of nano dimensional complex films of eosin Y (EY), stearic acid (SA) and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB) using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. By spreading SA onto the DTAB-EY mixed aqueous sub phase a complex monolayer of SA-DTAB-EY was formed. The adsorption kinetics in the complex monolayer was investigated by recording increase in surface pressure with time (π-t) graph at air-water interface. Initially the (π-t) graph shows steep rise and becomes flat at the end of the adsorption kinetics. More than 300 minutes were required to complete the adsorption process. In situ Brewster Angle Microscopy investigation gives compelling visual evidence of complex Langmuir monolayer formation at air-water interface. After transfer onto solid substrate the films were characterized by UV-Vis absorption and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). In the complex LB films the EY absorption bands were shifted and broadened with respect to pure EY solution and microcrystal spectrum due to the formation of nano dimensional aggregates. This was also supported by AFM investigations of the complex LB films. Keywords

Depressive symptoms and styles of conflict resolution displayed by males (husbands) and females (wives) in marital conflict, including angry, depressive, and constructive patterns of expression. Depression is not only affects the patient but also the spouses to the maximum extent. Depression and marital conflict can influence bidirectional. Present study objective was to compare the conflict resolutions styles in depression and normal controls. This study was a cross - sectional, hospital based, single contact, time bound study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples for the study. The study group comprised of 30 married individuals with depression whereas the control group consisted of 30 married normal individuals. Both the groups were assessed on a Socio-demographic data sheet, Hamilton rating scale for anxiety, Hamilton rating scale for depression and Conflict resolution styles inventory. It was found that there were significant differences in the conflict resolution styles of persons with depression compare to normal individuals and there were no significant difference between males and females of people with depression in conflict resolution styles. There were significant differences found in conflict resolution styles domains of conflict engagement, positive problem solving, withdrawal and compliance in people with depression in comparison with normal controls. Keywords

This communication reports the phenomenon of fluorescence resonance energy transfer observed in between the binary solution of two laser dyes acriflavine (donor) and rhodamine B (acceptor), with and without nano-clay (laponite). It was observed that presence of clay particles increases the energy transfer efficiency. The effect of acceptor concentration on the total energy transfer efficiency has been studied to quantify the energy transfer, which may be used for photon emission and enhancement in lasing efficiency. Keywords

Pteropod commonly occurs in the Andaman Sea but their presence is restricted within the certain bathymetric level of the sea floor due to their fragile nature in the seabed sediments. Quantitative pteropod study from the seabed samples shows a characteristic relation to the nature of sediments and physiographic set up of the North Andaman basin. Systematic taxonomic study of about 2700 specimens of pteropod specimens from 54 seabed samples indicates the presence of 23 pteropod species in the study area which belongs to nine genera, three families and two suborders. The degree of preservation of the dissolution prone pteropod tests and their numerical abundance at various water depths in the seabed samples are utilized to determine the Aragonite Compensation Depth (ACD) in this region. It lies at about 1150 m isobaths. Results are displayed by ACD map and pteropod dissolution profile which are plotted against the water column to illustrate the relationship of pteropod preservation behavior with depth in the craggy volcanic arc domains of the Andaman basin.

Marine pollution is a matter of global concern because the dimension and magnitude of the health hazard in the coastal region is increasing day by day due to pollution. Marino organisms have an important role in identifying the nature of pollution because the endogenous and exogenous effects of pollution are clearly evident on the biota. The toxicity of the pollutant distantly changes from euryecious to steneceous biota depending upon the alkalinity, chlorinity and metal content of the sea water. Foraminifera are very sensitive to any kind of pollutant in the marine and estuarine environment. They are used as an important proxy indicator in different parts of World Ocean. The present paper enumerates some examples of marine pollution within the P^xclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of India and other parts of World Ocean with the help of foraminifera and other biota. Keywords
