Biodiesel has attracted research because of its environmental benefits and energy security. In this research, the suitability of using Mahua B20 biodiesel blend in a single cylinder diesel engine has been carried out. The performance characteristics such as brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency and NOx exhaust emissions of B20 Mahua biodiesel with pyrogallol antioxidant by changing its concentration from 0 ppm to 750 ppm is examined and compared to regular diesel. The engine performance results reveals that minor improvements in brake specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency is observed with considerable reduction in NOx emission at an optimum 750 ppm antioxidant concentration in comparison with B20 Mahua blend without antioxidant. Thus, Mahua B20 blend with antioxidant can be used to run diesel engine without any modification.Keywords

The depletion of conventional fuels and increase in global warming due to burning of conventional fuels forces scientists to develop sustainable alternative fuels which are renewable and suggested biodiesel as an immediate substitute for the conventional diesel fuel. The potential of waste cooking oil is increasing in the recent years as the people are avoiding usage of waste cooking oil (WCO). In this work, biodiesel was produced from WCO and used as partial substitute for the conventional diesel and studied the impact of titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticle on engine’s emission level and performance. The engine tests were conducted on compression ignition engine and from the experimental results, it was observed that the addition of Al 2O3 enhances the engine’s thermal efficiency and minimises the emission levels.

The objective of this review paper is to focus few of the notable research that has been carried out to tackle the problems of disposal of plastic waste and its effective utilization into useful products. Due to less weight, low cost, non-corrosiveness of plastics have led to excessive usage and thus increasing its production resulting in the accumulation of waste plastic in the environment. The previous studies report several techniques to recycle and convert unwanted plastics into alternative fuels. This would be an added advantage to solve the problem of shortage of conventional fuel and thereby promote a sustainable environment. Nevertheless, further research is necessary to report some of the issues that have not yet been addressed.
