Groundnut is cultivated as a major oilseed crop in Andhra Pradesh. As the farmers want to strip the pods immediately after harvest mainly to prevent crop damage from unexpected rains and other field losses, a fresh pod thresher for groundnut wastested for its performance in comparison withconventional method of groundnut threshing (stripping of pods by hand) at Agricultural Research Station, Anantapur. Its overall performance was satisfactory and recorded an output of 225 kg/h with threshing and cleaning efficiencies of 96 and 98 per cent, respectively. The use of groundnut thresher can save 75 per cent labour and 40 per cent of cost compared to conventional method of groundnut threshing. Keywords

An eight row tractor drawn planter was developed for sowing of groundnut seed in irrigated (Rabi) condition at Agricultural Research Station, Anantapur. The seed metering in the planter is of inclined plate type. Power is transmitted from ground wheel to metering system through chain and sprockets. A double point shovel type furrow opener was provided for opening the furrows. The seed is placed in the furrows at desired depth. The implement can be operated by a 35 hp tractor. During evaluation the field capacity of the planter was found to be 0.35 ha/h at the average speed of operation of 2.88 km/h with field efficiency of 66.5 per cent. It was found that, the cost of sowing with local manual seed drill was observed to be 51 per cent higher than the sowing with groundnut planter. Manual seed drill required 11.3 man-h/ha more than the groundnut planter. Keywords

Pheromone monitoring indicated advancement of pink bollworm activity to as early as August during 2004-05. Soon after emergence, the PBW larvae enter the fruiting body. As a result, farmers remain totally ignorant about the damage caused by PBW and do not exercise any target specific control measures about it . Considering the emerging status of this pest investigations were undertaken to find out suitable measures to contain PBW, a large scale demonstration was undertaken in the farmers fields to evaluate the suitability of PB Rope L. Moth catches in the control plot were comparatively very high(12,478) throughout the crop season as compared to PB Rope L treated plots(198). Thus the PB Rope L treated plot recorded the lowest percent boll and locule damage compared to untreated plot and recorded highest yield and highest per cent good kapas.
