The present study aimed at the in-vitro comparative study of anthelmintic activity of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of whole plant of Oxalis corniculata Linn. using Eisenia foetida at three different concentrations (100, 200, and 400 mg/ml) respectively. The study involved the determination of time of paralysis (P) and time of death (D) of the worms. At the concentration of 400 mg/ml all the extracts showed very significant activities as compared to the standard drug levamisole (0.55 mg/ml). Each extract with the dose 100, 200, and 400 mg/ml, produced dose-dependent paralysis ranging from loss of motility to loss of response to external stimuli, which gradually progressed to death. In case of methanol extract which was found to be most potent, the time of paralysis and death time was observed as 11.33 and 41.33 min, respectively. In conclusion, the use of O. corniculata as possible anthelmintic is explored and further studies are suggested to isolate the active principles responsible for the activity.Keywords

Enicostema axillare is well known for its anthelmintic and bacterial activity. In present study dried leaves and ischolar_mains of Enicostema axillare were subjected to exhaustic sequential extraction with four solvent i.e.-hexane, chloroform, methanol and distilled water respectively. All four extracts were studied for in vitro licicidal activity using goat-lice Damalinia caprae (Trichodectidae) as experimental organism. Only n-hexane and chloroform fractions showed statistically significant licicidal activity (p value <0.001, n = 5). Decrease in mean time required to kill the lice was observed at concentration 1% w/w and 10% w/w when compared to 1% lindane solution.

A simple, economical, precise and accurate ratio spectra derivative spectrophotometric method for Aspirin (ASP), Atenolol (ATN), and Amlodipine besylate (AML) ternary combination on laboratory prepared tablet formulation has been developed. The method is based on obtaining first derivative of ratio spectra and measuring amplitude at selected wavelength. The derivative amplitudes at 312.5 nm, 315.5 nm and 347.0 nm were selected for measuring the response of Aspirin (ASP), Atenolol (ATN), and Amlodipine besylate (AML), respectively. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 20-100 μg ml-1 for ASP and 10-50 μg ml-1 for ATN and 1-5 μg ml-1 AML. The % assay was found to be in the range 98.0-101.0% for ASP and 98.91-101.72% for ATN and 98.71-101.2% for AML by the proposed method. The method was validated with respect to linearity, precision and accuracy. Recovery was found in the range of 98.72-100.64% for ASP and 98.45-101.21% for ATN and 98.32-101.12% for AML.Keywords

Simultaneous determination of Irbesartan (IRBE) and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTZ) in combined tablet dosage form has been developed by ratio spectra derivative and absorption correction spectrophotometry method. The amplitudes at 252.6 nm and 230 nm in the first derivative of the ratio spectra method were selected to determine IRBE and HTZ respectively and the second method was based on the absorption correction method in which IRBE and HTZ exhibit λmax at 244 nm and 275.02 nm, respectively in 0.1 N HCL. HTZ has some interference due to IRBE at 275.02 nm, while HTZ do not show any absorption at 244 nm. The % assay for commercial formulations was found to be in the range 98.29-99.80 for IRBE and 98.91-100.10% for HTZ by the proposed methods, for both the formulations. Recovery was found in the range of 98.11-100.08% for IRBE and 98.54-99.29% for HTZ by ratio derivative method and 98.59-99.56% for IRBE and 99.33-100.12% for HTZ by absorbance correction method for both the Formulations. The methods were validated and found to be linear, precise and accurate, as per ICH guidelines. Absorbance correction method was applied for dissolution studies and drug release pattern was evaluated.Keywords
