Faith, culture and economic life of ethnic communities residing in Dumka district of Santhal Paraganas, Jharkhand mainly revolve round their rich phyto-diversity, of which they are a part. And, over generations of experience, they have acquired the knowledge, which has converted the phytotaxa into bioresources.
Their knowledge about biology, properties and conservation of ecosystems is also very rich. They have evolved unique methods for the sustainable use and management of their biodiversity. Each taxon is recognized differently by each tribe and often by the individuals of the same tribe. Gathering of this fact, on a global or even national basis will show more facets of the bioresources than those shown by the taxonomists. Only, we have to shift our attention from what the elements of biodiversity are, to what these elements mean to us and to humanity. This paper mainly focuses on the vast relationship arising out of the faith and cultural diversity of the tribal communities of Dumka with their ambient phyto-diversity.

Emblica officinalis (syn. Phyllanthus emblica L.) is commonly known as Indian gooseberry. It has been extensively used & popularized because of its therapeutic properties having vitamin C, minerals and amino acids. The plant is used for medicinal purposes. The fruit apart from all parts of Emblica officinalis has been in nait in Ayurveda as a potent rejuvenator since days long. Various pharmaceutical properties of Emblica officinalis has been evinced previously embodying anti-oxidant, Immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, antitumor and antiulcerogenic activities either in combined formulation or Emblica officinalis proper. It is our expeditious exigencyto delve into the medicinal values of Emblica officinalis at molecular level with the succor of techniques of biotechnology though Research in medicinal plants has gained much more momentum.Keywords

Nine actinobacteria were isolated from the mangrove soil of Bhitarkanika and screened for their bioactive metabolites and antimicrobial property. Out of the nine actinobacterial isolates, the bacterial isolateBAB-7 showed positive activity towards most of the enzymesscreened,i.e., Cellulase, phosphate solubilization, L-asparaginase, protease, and amylase. The actinobacterial isolate BAB-7 also exhibited antimicrobial activity against K. pneumoniae, V. alginolyticus, V. parahaemolyticus, P. aeruginosa,E. coli, S. typhimurium, and S. salivarius. Based on biochemical characterization, the actinobacterial isolate BAB-7 was identified asSteptomcessp.The secondary metabolites produced by the bacterial strain were analyzed through GC-mass spectroscopy and found to besimilar to the peaks of2-cyclohex-3-en-1-yl-2-oxoacetic acid derivative (ketomycin).Keywords
