Abstract

Objective: This study was designed to establish the influence of gender and hip flexion position on active range of motion of the hip in external and internal rotation.

Method: 100 (50 Males & 50 Females) healthy college-age subjects with no previous hip problems were studied. Mean age was 21.8 years with a range of 18-27 years. Hip rotation of the dominant leg of each subject was measured in the prone (hip near 0" of flexion) and seated (hip near 90" of flexion) positions using a standard goniometer.

Result: Data were analyzed using t test. Our results indicate Mean values of active hip ROM for college aged students is 27.85 for internal rotation and 34.61 for external rotation in seated position & Mean values of active hip ROM for college aged students is 35.35 for internal rotation & 42.57 for external rotation in prone position.Females had statistically more active hip internal and external rotation than males.

Conclusion: These findings are clinically significant and stress the importance of documenting measurement position.

Abstract

Laser is one of the latest technologies which promise the dentist and patient to deliver superior quality of dentistry. The advantages of laser dentistry over conventional approach are several e.g minimal bleeding, surgeries with no or minimal use of anesthesia, tooth preparations without creating micro fractures etc. This article highlights different types of lasers used in dentistry with mechanism of action especially emphasizing on the use of lasers in Prosthodontics, its advantages, disadvantages and limitations. This article is an attempt to create more awareness about lasers amongst clinicians and to make use of it for better practice. The continued development of laser technology may lead in creating a different branch in dentistry "Lasers Dentistry".

Abstract

Objectives: Allium cepa and Coriandrum sativum are reported in the Ayurvedic literature for hypolipidemic activities. Aqueous extracts of A. cepa and C. sativum prior to the assessment of the efficacy of the extracts for antiobesity potential were investigated for the safety of acute oral exposure in rats. Materials and Methods: Aqueous extracts of A. cepa or C. sativum was administered orally in a sequential manner to one animal each at 2000 and 5000 mg/kg limit test of sighting study followed by four animals at 5000 mg/kg in the main study as per Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development guideline 420. The experimental animals were observed for mortality, adverse clinical signs, alterations in the body weights, and gross pathological lesions at necropsy. Similar procedure was adopted for the other test substance. Results: Aqueous extracts of A. cepa or C. sativum treated rats survived throughout the study period and did not exhibit any treatment-related adverse clinical signs at the tested dose levels. The overall percent body weight gain in rats treated with aqueous extracts of A. cepa or C. sativum was found to be normal during the 14 days observation period. At necropsy, the rats did not reveal any major pathological lesions. Conclusion: In summary, acute oral toxicity testing of aqueous extracts of A. cepa and C. sativum did not demonstrate any treatment-related adverse effects up to the dose level of 5000 mg/kg body weight, and hence the tested products were labeled unclassified in the hazard category according to Globally Harmonized System.

Abstract

An improved chemical conversion coating process for blackening of a specific type of stainless steel has been developed. In this process a new optimized bath compositions and operating procedures were set-up by using different trial & error methods to get the desired coating. The technique is also developed for the simplicity, and economical aspect than other techniques. Characterization of coating is done in terms of morphology, optical, hardness by using SEM, Spectrophotometer, and Indentation Hardness methods. Sea-water and temperature variations effects on the coated surface are also studied.

Abstract

Cloud computing technology has captured the market these days. Cloud resources are offered as services and the payment is based on their per usage consumption. The increasing number of cloud vendors offers different services having different parameters and with varied quality. Cloud users according to the requirement rents the services which can fulfills their application demands. The challenge arises how to select the services which can meet the criteria of the user. In this paper we present the cloud service ranking algorithm which show the process of effective ranking of cloud services.
